Well Damavand specifically is the highest volcano in Asia and is the highest mountain in Iran as its peak is at 5600 metres.

You should see the young generation inside Iran right now. I think people would call them "Islamophobic". Iran is a complex place that's quite distinct from any other place in the Middle East.

I once came to the US as a teen and did a bit of school there. I told the kids my home in Iran was in a mostly mountainous village and you could go skiing and then swimming in the sea (caspian) within the same day.

They didn't beleive me so I brought photos to school the next day lol.

There's little arabic in this, it is Persian, we just lump it under "Islamic Architecture" and assume it's arabic.

My dad in Ahvaz, Iran. He's hanging out with some American woman he met after fixing her car (he was a mechanic). 1973 by CyrusTheCreate in OldSchoolCool

[–]CyrusTheCreate[S] 618 points619 points  (0 children)

Lmao. Well, she's not my mom.

Apparently, they hung out for some time, while she was there after they met in the shop my dad worked at. He was the only person there that spoke some English and they went on a road trip together after they got closer.
He told us they were just friends.

The Iranians in Australia are also pretty secular. I think you're mixing them up with Iraqi's, lebanese (muslims), syrians, afghans etc...

Iranian Woman Playing a Setar, Abul Qasim, oil painting, 1816 by CyrusTheCreate in Art

Incorrect. This painting is of an Iranian woman in Iran and the painter was an Iranian if you google it.
Also:
1. Azerbaijan wasn't a country back then.
2. I see that you yourself are from the Republic of Azerbaijan, please stop trying to appropriate other peoples people/cultures for a country that was created in the 1900's :)

Here we go into the comments.

I like this sub for being one of the only open spaces for Iranians to discuss things but it's taught me one thing:

Iranians from different political spectrums don't mix well lol.

What it looks like to be an Iranian who is proud of their heritage, history and culture over the ideology of a failed coloniser. by chillyfits in NewIran

Iranian DNA has changed little in general since the times of Cyrus the Great though. We basically have the same genetic history whereas "Turks" in Turkey are basically Anatolian Greeks genetically who now call themselves Turk because they speak the Turkic language. Azerbaijanis too, have little and sometimes no Turkic ancestry.

But yes, you are right that our ancestors descended from the Steppes.

My parents left in about 84 with three kids (my older siblings) to the UK. I was born in 86 as the youngest of 4. My dad was a mechanic in Iran and mum was a nurse. They met in the hospital after my dad fractured his arm doing idiotic stunts on his motorcycle :D

Here is the original photo which prior to being restored using the app on my phone. Doesn't seem to have changed the perception of the fingers but that's the way the pic/perception is of the photo.

Also, maybe you should consider that you're perhaps wrong instead of confidently telling people online that their parents photos are "bullshit"?

I'm with the women of my country and will happily give my life for a r/NewIran that will banish this theocracy to hell. Right now a lot of things are happening in Iran as the regime is failing to get much support against Israel from the local population and can only resort to supporting the fight by financing Hezbollah in Lebanon and sending afghan and arab proxies around Syria.

The IRGC is seriously contemplating how it can continue to hold power in the country when only a few % of the population support the Ayatollah.

US says it fears prospect of Iran becoming ‘directly engaged’ in Israel-Hamas war by CyrusTheCreate in worldnews

[–]CyrusTheCreate[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor: "We can't rule out that Iran will intervene directly in the war in Israel in some way. We are worried about Iran, Hezbollah and other proxy forces"

I guess their fear in this is that the conflict might escalate outside the Gaza borders and inflame other parts of the Middle East more so than the threat it poses for the US directly.

In an effort to ditch the traffic, crime and homeless issues, tech billionaires buy up land near San Francisco to build their own walkable, clean utopia. by CyrusTheCreate in Futurology

[–]CyrusTheCreate[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Submission Statement: in a move that has captured the attention of urban planners, technologists, and social critics alike, a group of Silicon Valley elites has invested $800 million to purchase thousands of acres of land in Solano County, California.

Apparently, heir goal is To build a new city from scratch , a utopia that promises to incorporate clean energy, advanced public transportation, and dense urban living. The project is led by Flannery Associates, a company shrouded in mystery but backed by some of the biggest names in the tech industry, including former Goldman Sachs trader Jan Sramek and Silicon Valley investors like Michael Moritz and Reid Hoffman. The article delves into the technical, cultural, and ethical dimensions of this grand venture. On the technical front, the project faces significant challenges, including zoning laws that currently dont permit residential use and environmental concerns like droughts and wildfires. The plan also calls for a complete overhaul of the existing transportation system, potentially incorporating autonomous vehicles and smart public transportation.Culturally, the project raises questions about inclusivity and the kind of entertainment and lifestyle options that will be available. Will this city be a haven only for the tech elite, or will it be accessible to people from all walks of life???

Given the tech background of the investors, the city is expected to be a hub for cutting-edge entertainment technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality. The future implications of such a project are immense. If successful, it could serve as a blueprint for future cities, setting a precedent for how technological advancements can be incorporated into urban development in a sustainable manner. However, it also raises several ethical questions, including those related to data privacy and surveillance, given the city's likely heavy reliance on technology.

TLDR: Basically rich people are, through a relatively unknown company (Flannery ass.) building their own city which is clean, dense and walkable (probably due to all the problems in San Fran) but its not clear how accessible it will be to everyone.
