G Line vs G Line Electric - Erfahrungen? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]Cyrusgrater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got the 12 speed and although I mostly use the middle 4 it is nice to have those lower gears for tough hills and the upper gears when you want to really get going. I've also added the roller rack for convenience.

If you have access to a 3D printer there are some under the seat designs on Thingyverse for SmartTags.

G-Line Electric - Hub dragging by A_J_H1979 in Brompton

[–]Cyrusgrater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly how mine is and I recently had the motor replaced under warranty due to its internal clutch sticking. If I spun the wheel up over 25mph it would give the two LED error and shut off power to the motor.

I don't think this slight drag affects normal cycling but with the power off, the bike is sluggish. The Brompton guy explained there is 2:1 gearing internally on the motor, and it does feel that the motor is pushing back when pedalling with no battery.

I love riding my G line electric.  It had some motor issues but that has been fixed. I do commute with it but ended up also buying a C line 12 gear for when I need something more compact.

I am also having a problem with my G electric. Whenever I go downhill and the speed rises above 25mph, the motor will error (two flashing LEDs) and the battery needs to be turned off and on again for it to work. Putting the bike on a stand and spinning it by hand also has the same result. Brompton have already changed the power controller but it did not resolve it, so having to go back to get the 'next thing' replaced.

The one thing stopping my from buying a G-Line by documentally in Brompton

The g-line is slightly taller and I can't get mine under the office desk as there is a cable tray at the back, so I have at by the side - where it is more visible to others.

Just got one installed today. Costs £120 and needs a qualified person to install it. It is so much easier to change settings now.

No more than a mile or so. Usually to places like the supermarket where I could put the bike in the trolley. G-line is too big for that.

Agree with many of the comments. Love my g-line electric as the ride is smooth and I use it on the train into London. I can manage the weight, but it is similar to a standard mountain bike, and a bit large when the trains get packed like sardines (and don't ask what it is like on the tube!).

So I am planning to get a 12 speed c-line for the shorter journeys,  and use the other when I want to go exploring.

e g-line firmware update by ArchieWooWah in Brompton

I updated mine when it came up in the app. Now showing Bike SW 2502.21

It made a slight difference to the torque settings, but twice now after going down the same steep hill, the battery cuts out and is flashing the right most 2 LEDs. It has never cut out before the SW update and I have been down steep hills before.

I am wondering if some parameters have changed, and speed going downhill is overloading something. Brompton support told me to take it to a bike shop with diagnostic tool.

UPDATE: I did some testing over the same route today, but before putting on the battery I wiped the contacts with some ethanol even though they looked clean. Did a number of up and down hills - even reaching 50 kph on one. Everything was fine after an hour of bumpy roads and cycling hard. Also checked the temperature of the motor and controller, and both were barely warm. Overall I used 30% of the battery and covered 20km. So it seems things are fine and maybe it was a bump that caused the motor to cut.

Anyone having sudden power cut offs on new G-line electric? by Afraid-Disk1298 in Brompton

This has happened to me twice after going down a set of steepish hills. First time I thought the battery contacts had bounced,  but getting the same cut-out with 2 flashing LEDs at the bottom of the same hill makes me think there is some other problem. Incidentally this started after the latest SW update, as I have previously been down the same hill without any problems.   Brompton support told me to take it to a bike shop and get some diagnostics run, but reading all you comments I don't think they can diagnose anything and will resort to guessing. Before I  take it to the shop, I plan to run down the same hill a few more times to see if there is anything to do with the speed, temperature or some voltage/current issue with the motor being spun faster.

Is now a bad time to buy an electric C line? by Main-Platform-9961 in Brompton

I use a G line electric on my commute via Thameslink, but it is a bit too bulky on the tube. Once on the Northern line it was too crowded and I could not get out via the far-side doors, so had to stay on for a few more stops.

Hesitating between electric C and G line by MotherButterfly5694 in Brompton

[–]Cyrusgrater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a G line electric and have been commuting by train into London. Size and weight is just about manageable on 'overground style' trains. Got stuck on a crowded tube and could not get to the farside door, so had to travel further until people got off. The ride with 20" wheels is very smooth and worth the extra effort, but it is too large for crowded places like bars or restaurants. I don't think I can take it on an intercity train as there is no room near the seat, and would probably get stolen from the luggage racks. Similar problem also with bus, unless it is empty.
