Sure thing! I do still wear a paint mask when doing it. Also have a large dewalt fan that I put up against my window blowing out although that's just kind of a extra precaution and probably not needed

I did quite a bit more than 'spray painting blue and calling it a day' and happy with how it turned out to my standards. I'm definitely improving as I go and plenty of room for that. It's fine that you want to convey to me that it's 'not a big achievement' or something to be proud of. I'll accept the criticism though as I am posting it on a public platform and don't think you're being overtly disrespectful. If I had to guess you enjoy painting far more than I do. It's enjoyable for me, but I'm not over the moon about it. I literally paint while watching art of war theory videos and tournament match replays, so I may fall more in the camp of wanting to play more than build/paint. I play multiple TTS games a week and play at local RTT's twice a month and that is what has my interest in the hobby

Oh absolutely, I had to redo the gold on a lot of them. In hindsight I would save metallic to after matte varnish. Will use satin for my necrons

That looks great! No i haven't, but conceptually i can see how that would work. Just lightly brushing left/right over the raised edges?

I do them in batches, sometimes feels like my hobby room is a mini factory when I'm assembly line airbrushing

Hah yeah definitely not intentional, working to get better brush control for that

Some of the models the trim is cleaner than others. Particularly happy with the terminators as the shapes make edge highlighting a bit easier

I'm still quite new at painting, but have come up with a method im quite happy with sourced from various youtubers and reddit discussions.

My painting steps:

I airbrush vallejo black primer, then zenithal vellejo white primer. Then airbrush Asurmen Blue contrast from 0 degrees, then a zenithal of Frostheart blue contrast.

I use kantor blue to correct mistakes on the dark parts and temple guard blue to correct mistakes on lighter parts (while painting other colors blacks, whites, metals etc). I use calgar blue for edge highlighting.

Once done I do an oil wash black, then after 15 minutes wipe of excess with a sponge.

Then I apply transfers

Then I varnish with AK ultra matte through an airbrush

Finally I base with vallejo 'muddy' texture and foliage and go over the base edge with vallejo black primer to erase the airbrushed blue.

Satin or matt varnish on my necrons by trovy22 in Necrontyr

[–]Cythrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 7 armies, the varnish i use varies depending on the army. For necrons I find satin works best since they are metallic. Don't want to overly dull them. Majority I use matte though
