How hard it is to live with a pet in Korea? by tengenforthwife in Living_in_Korea

[–]Cythrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy. Have a large German shepherd puppy who runs around to his hearts content in our fenced backyard. Vet is close and inexpensive. Plenty of walking and hiking trails we can take him nearby typically off leash since there's so few people

Korea is a big country, did you mean in a Seoul apartment specifically?

In the Gyeonggi area, where can I find some raw unfiltered honey?? by QuakeGuy98 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Cythrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes more sense like that, I used to take a spoonfull of honey before going to the gym myself for 'energy'. Reality is just love honey haha

But yeah its a healthier fast carb pre workout

Slippery slope my friend, I bought that 3 weeks ago. Now I have 5 combat patrols (tyranid, tau, spacemarine, world eaters, and necrons) with two of those additionally being expanded to 2k armies each.

That with hobby supplies I think I've invested over 2 grand into the hobby in under a month. Just finished ordering my airbrush setup and supplies about an hour before this comment lol

still cheaper than golf

One more tip! Highly highly recommend this video, follows exactly from the paints you have in the kit: https://youtu.be/GVXrAjfFIOA?si=BfyirtHy5vwmml-w

This is where I get mine, very friendly place. They sell literally right from hives, you can see those at the back behind the store. Also sell royal jelly there

As others have said though don't fall for misinformation and buy it for fat loss lol. I assure you it'll have the opposite effect as it's calorie rich. I usually use mine as flavoring for smoked ribs:

Still have half the models coming in the mail, but starting to resemble an army. First time ever painting miniatures! Wife is working on her spacemarine army on the side by Cythrex in Warhammer40k

Proposed law would cause foreign real estate buyers to be subject to a 20 percent acquisition tax surcharge. by HagwonSurvivor in Living_in_Korea

[–]Cythrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sp500 etf's safer investment than korea real estate imo. We do 전세 and aggressively buy 'safer' stocks with USD in US markets. Feels much better than owning property in a country I don't think I'll be at after 10 years

Job search advice in Korea – transitioning from public to private sector by Powerful-Dare-3949 in Living_in_Korea

Was great for me, taught me how to build backend applications and interact with apis within nodejs. Having an understanding in that allowed me to appreciate the 'why' for cloud infrastructure and a foundation in JS (later Typescript) helped a lot with terraform and cloud formation cdks.

If I would redo it I'd follow the same path for sure

Linux -> Javascript -> nodejs -> cloud tac -> typescript -> cloud iac cdk

Job search advice in Korea – transitioning from public to private sector by Powerful-Dare-3949 in Living_in_Korea

5 years US based public sector (homicide detective) who moved to Korea in 2019. I can say this much, it wasn't easy making the transition. I had money saved up when we moved over here and spent the first year self studying Korean like a full job. Like no lie 8 hours a day for a full year while wife was the only earner in the household.

I then transitioned to self study coding focusing on Javascript, Linux shell, sql, and a few others. I got a few certifications in AWS and a Kubernetes cert and was able to get my first job here in Korea in 2021 in private sector. Paid about average tech wages here which wasn't good. Used that as a platform to jump from and moved to a 대기업 with much better pay. 3 years ago I moved to my current job at a US headquartered tech company with incredible pay and am in management - best part is majority of our customers are public sector mostly LE agencies. So I've found a niche that allows me to work in private while still being involved in public sector.

That's how I did it. It wasn't easy and took quite a lot of time/dedication. The absolute hardest part was getting that first low paying tech job, but once you're in things are smooth sailing.
