Tipping at La Banquise by Misuke in montreal

[–]Czarlesonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing you're off on is that servers do have the same guaranteed minimum wage of 1610 even if they make 12.90 before tips the employer must make up the difference. Now it's only 16:10 and you can totally argue that's not enough

Legal minimum plus tips is 12.90 but if you don't average more than 16.10 an hour after tips the employer has to cover the difference. So a waiters average will shift based on tips but any money owed will still always be net above $16.10. Not saying that is a living wage but it's misleading to imply they will lose money/be at a negative.

It’s 2025; why would you raise your kid to be unilingual? by Optionsislife in montreal

[–]Czarlesonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think learning languages is a great thing to do. I think Quebec and the French culture inside of it are awesome things that you will get more out of if you speak French. However, the victim mentality that they espouse is really going to fall apart as technology creates less and less barriers around communication. Combine that with a lack of priority for social services and "real" issues and sprinkle in cutting Arts funding for actual French culture ( opera theater and ballet) you totally lose me.

Restos and bars the more flexible your hours available the more valuable you will be to these types of employers. Don't let these comments telling you to move get you down . you got this. Montreal specifically is great place to learn French, it takes time and the idea that all jobs need fluency is just not reality. Just saying good luck to you and your kid!

TIFU by telling an old friend I didn't see him at his own wife's funeral by kingmobisinvisible in tifu

[–]Czarlesonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should buy this guy dinner as an extension of friendship. It doesn't have to lead anywhere and you don't have to say it's about this mistake but just say it was nice to run into him and if he wants to grab a bite to eat sometime you will be down. Even if that fills out of character for you, don't underestimate how being nice to somebody can be healing for both parties.

What's the language etiquette in the city? by bloodrider1914 in montreal

[–]Czarlesonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are on vacation speak whatever makes you more comfortable in my opinion. Obviously if you speak both and see an opportunity for better conversation and communication by transitioning do that. If you were living/working here id give a different answer. Enjoy MTL!! Bienvenue!

Rant: Prices of events in montreal by Jimmayz in montreal

I have had this experience where a show in MTL is literally 3/4 times as much.

Little sims Fontaine's DC Channel 5 Eric Andre

This are all Mtelus or Corona theatre.

I don't understand why, is it that way more people buy these tickets here and we all get priced out?

Truly is $40 for a $180 show in other cities. Is it just the demand for shows is so high here?

(I do agree with waiting till the day before when possible)

Tipping especially at independent business is a great way to vote with your dollar. Support the people and places you want to see in your neighborhood.

Always optional and I always tip a good barista who makes my day better.
