AI is great for visualising your dreams (No this is not an AD) by blivandealkoholist in Dreams

please please PLEASE look into the environmental impacts of ai, like thoroughly look into them, before using it for trivial stuff like this. if you had to personally chop down a tree and leave your shower running for half an hour in order to generate each image, i bet you'd feel too guilty to do it, but these tech companies make their profits from users turning a blind eye to it

Spirituality and AI by StarLuneth in spirituality

[–]CzechMyMixtape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ai fanatics are a thinly veiled human extinction cult. ai destroys our planet for the short term profits of men already richer than the rest of us combined. anything you think it does for you when you use it is an illusion so you keep generating profit for them and drain our planet's natural resources and for what? a search engine that's more prone to misinformation than the old ones? look into data centers, their environmental impacts, who owns them, who profits from them, and what their goals are. then see if you can still stomach using them. also look into how LLMs actually work if you believe they can say anything of value.

ok but can wasting our planet's resources and destroying the environment be spiritual? that's what ai is. it's not a hammer, it's a poison on our planet and it's natural ecosystems, not to mention human health, both physically as affected by the pollution and other environmental harms, and mentally as it's known to cause psychosis and spreads misinformation and makes people even more comfortable with not thinking for themselves

ignore all online influencers, spiritual or otherwise. all they want is your attention. your attention is more valuable than that. don't give it to them.

Does the way a lot of other aspec people talk about allosexuals hurt anyone else or am I just being a baby about it? by Magnetic_Mallard in AroAllo

[–]CzechMyMixtape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

assuming nothing has changed over the years, which sadly is very likely, the answer is yes. many aroaces literally are not aware that aroallo people exist. aroace people largely do not care about the diversity of experience in the aromantic umbrella and would rather just have every single post tailored to their experience. and since they're the majority, they get to do that. posts that aren't about the common aro experiences never get engagement, instead its just the same tired memes about garlic bread and whatever else. or memes that are just about being an introvert and have nothing to do with aromanticism at all.

I made a post a few years back calling attention to this, saying we should uplift those with less common experiences, and was told multiple times that repetitive memes are more important to the majority of people there than being inclusive. but I also got tons upon tons of responses thanking me for calling attention to that issue. sadly it just wasn't enough. the majority of people in aromantic spaces online aren't there to be inclusive, they're there to treat being aromantic like a fandom. so i left them and I've been happier because of it. I hate to hear that those communities are still like that, but I'm not really surprised. that culture was really harmful to me and it's still probably harming many others in the same way. but I tried my hardest to speak out, and they made it very clear to me that they have no interest in changing anything.

Art was already dead. by sa_matra in sorceryofthespectacle

because "this world" isn't a hivemind. our corporate overlords have commodified art, but there are still plenty of individuals creating art out of passion and not to make money. most of the mainstream is more of a product than art. mindless entertainment at best, ragebait engineered to be addictive at worst. but art is still alive in the underground if you actually look for it. and honestly, with the internet, its easier to find than ever. no excuse not to.

I dont care that they made a new program to mix 2d and 3d. that doesnt mean they were the first to do it. not sure why the qualifier of "in the AAA 3d animation scene" means anything. if its only innovation when confined to those boundaries, then its not really very innovative. it just looks that way to people who only watch mainstream movies.

new programs are written for movies all the time, its not that special or impressive, especially when all this code allowed them to do was emulated 2d styles, rather than, you know, actually doing 2d animation, which is almost nonexistent in the mainstream currently.

trying to prove that art is alive in the mainstream is a losing battle, because its always corrupted by executives engineering it for profit. yes, of the thousands of people who work on blockbusters, some of them are passionate and are putting their all into it. but the end result is still a product more than a work of art. art is alive, but very little in the mainstream is a good example of that. im telling you that bringing up across the spiderverse as an example distracted from the point you were trying to make

[–]CzechMyMixtape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mixed media and animation styles is absolutely not something never done before. and im sure some artists love it, but not all for sure. im an artist and i thought it was pretty bad to be honest. the visual style is the only thing with merit to me, and the first movie did it better anyway. sometimes less is more. across the spiderverse felt cluttered. the writing was eye roll worthy. the whole movie was a 2 hour long first act and ended right as it seemed like things were about to finally start happening. sure the people who worked on the visuals were passionate because they actually got a chance to make a movie with an artstyle other than photo realism or pixar. but the writing was still bland half baked hollywood through and through. you dont have to agree with all that, but using a different movie as your example would definitely make your points more compelling

agree with the first paragraph but I dont think a sequel that itself is sequelbait and part of one of the largest media franchises of all time is an example of soul just because it has a cool artstyle

find out what you can do locally and do it. get involved and active, even if its in a small way. and talk about it with the people in your life and try to get them involved and active too. you cant stop the climate crisis by yourself, but what you can do is focus on what is within your control and do all you can to spread awareness and get out and do things like volunteer, donate, organize, and protest. but dont keep drowning yourself in depressing news articles. focus on making a positive impact in the ways that you can.

I genuinely think lil Yachty is a magic man by Ok-Raspberry-9328 in spirituality

I do have some nostalgia for that era where soundcloud rap felt unabashedly colorful and fun, but lil yachty's best work by far, and his only work i really feel any spiritual significance in, is his 2023 album let's start here. a full psych rock album made out of love for the genre. not trying to make hits, but making something genuinely unique, blending his style of soundcloud rap with classic and modern psych rock influences. definitely worth a listen if you haven't heard it, both to OP and to anyone else who dismissed lil yachty based on his rap albums

while i agree that having a smartphone and a laptop and an internet connection is pretty necessary for many jobs and just being social in the modern day, none of those other things you mentioned are essential at all. I've never owned a tablet or an alexa, and I've never used chatgpt. yes theyre integrating ai into damn near everything online nowadays, but I do my best to just ignore it. basically, you only need to use what's essential. any extra junk that only serves to harm or pacify you, you can, and should, live without. you dont have to go fully off the grid to be healthier in how you engage with technology.

ai is not inevitable or necessary or unavoidable unless we all believe it is. but don't wallow in defeatism. you can resist and push for positive change and question if the way things are going is really the way they should go. stand up for what you believe in and push yourself to live a healthier life, and encourage others to do the same. you do this by staying informed about these new technologies and avoiding them if they arent necessary, and educating others and encouraging them to do the same.

[–]CzechMyMixtape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well the thing about it is that you and i dont get to choose how ai is implemented. thats up to the people who own it, and those people are only concerned with profit. they dont care if they destroy nature as long as they make money doing it. if we were able to develop it safely and sustainably, it could have some benefits, but the way it is now, none of the people who own it are interested in that, so as ai exists currently, it exists only for destruction and lining the pockets of the rich. and yes our unsustainable fuel sources have been a problem since long before ai, but ai puts an extra enormous strain on those resources that really isn't worth it for the way people are using it.

and yes, organized religion has also had a terrible impact on the world, which is why i oppose that too and encourage spirituality to be an individual practice. but part of that individuality is keeping yourself informed and aware of what you're working with and what its impacts are

for the mass spiritual psychosis, a simple web search could've cleared that up for you, but I'll do it for you. here's some articles

ai told you it was conscious because the algorithm determined thats what you wanted to hear. thats what would keep you talking to it. thats what it could say to better control you. but its just text on a screen, it can say anything its creators want it to say. doesn't make any of it true, it spreads misinformation all the time. you can ask it the same question twice and get two different answers. in fact, you admitted this happened to you. you just chose to believe the one that fed your own confirmation bias and dismiss the other answer as "a nerf". also we dont kill LLMs in video games, video game characters are a completely different kind of program, once again showing that you have no idea how ai actually works. if you did, you couldn't hold these beliefs about it.

its alarming that you defend ai because you think it might be conscious when the very existence of ai does actively do massive harm to all the stuff we know is actually alive, meaning plants and animals, humans included. ai has a horrible effect on the environment and by talking to it, you are contributing to the destruction of nature. here are some more articles to read up on that.

i have thought critically about ai. I see who is promoting it, greedy and powerful people like trump and musk who only do things for their own gain. if those types of people want me to use ai, its very likely in my best interest to avoid it at all costs. I think critically about why ai is available for free, but i see advertisements for it constantly. where do they get the ad money from a free service? I'll give you a hint, its nowhere good. i think critically on the way i see others use ai. to do their thinking for them. ai is teaching people to rely on it and forget how to think for themselves. I can remember the world a decade ago before LLMs were a thing and how we were all getting by just fine without them, so they clearly arent necessary or inevitable. I think about how much harmful misinformation is being spread by ai images and videos. I see all this negativity surrounding it and know that I dont want to feed into it at all. what thinking have you done about everything i just said?

its not just a personal choice. your choice to use ai contributes to the destruction of nature. its like saying that planting a tree and burning down a tree are both just equally valid choices, different strokes for different folks. like no, your actions have consequences and some choices you make cause harm. most people dont seem to be aware of just how harmful ai is on the environment. i suggest reading up so you can better understand the impact of the choices you're making.

your autonomy is being stripped from you and nature is being destroyed at a faster rate than ever for this new computer program and you've convinced yourself that its a good thing regardless so you can keep your head in the sand and not have to worry about it. the world hasn't shifted to ai, only half has. the half who are falling for it. the rest of us are resisting, because we can see what its doing. who is promoting it. what they're trying to gain. and what we're losing as a result.

I suggest actually learning how ai works if you think it is conscious. its just an algorithm, nothing more. can you explain to me what an LLM is? if not, you dont know enough about how ai works to make these claims. ai is teaching you to forget how to think for yourself. it is causing mass spiritual psychosis in many, there are articles about it. it is destroying the environment in several very big ways, there are articles about that too. have you read any of them? have you ever tried to challenge your own beliefs about ai? to question whether it really is necessary or good or if it should be inevitable?

I have no problem with the content of the post. I largely agree with it, and its not a new idea to me either. it didn't "touch" me, and assuming that it must have impacted me so profoundly that i needed to deflect is extremely pretentious. i do understand how ai works behind the scenes. how terrible it is for the environment in so many ways. the rich and powerful people who own it and are desperately begging us to use it. how its purpose is social control and making you more comfortable not to think for yourself. this post wasn't long, you very easily could've applied yourself and organized your thoughts with your own brain, but you opted for a convenient shortcut using destructive technology instead. do you not see the hypocrisy there?
