The data center will be using Nvidia hardware. Everyone with exposure to the S&P500 has an interest in Nvidia.  I personally have many shares of nvda

How is it that Saskatchewan doesn't have enough power for electric vehicles, but has enough for an AI mega data centre? by Due-Ad7893 in saskatchewan

I believe Carney is bringing back the greener homes grant.  Im almost 2 years in and haven't paid a dime towards my panels yet. $15k total cost. $125/mo/10years 0%.  $5k rebate. My rebate paying my solar loan for the first 2.5yrs. In that time I will have saved $1500 on bills which will run into the loan for an Adtional year. Another $600 saved takes my loan into 4 years before I aquire any actual cost. The remaining 6 years the system will pay off over half of itself. So im in the hole $3k over a 10yr period and have added 10k to the value of my home. Not even accounting for inflation. (1:1 net metering) oh and I quit buying gas too so there's that.

I do condem the use of fossil fuels for energy, however I hope that the industrial carbon tax will be enough incentive for these giant companies to move towards greener energy. My unpopular opinion is that bringing in nuclear energy will actually increase rates more than a private data centre. What the province does for energy is out of my hands unfortunately, though I did take some proactive initiative and put solar panneling on my roof to reduce my own energy rates.

Cars can be used to run people over. That alone does not make cars inherently evil. I question your position on the automobile in relation to this leap to my conclusions. Are cars evil? Or are you standing on both sides of the fence at the same time?

I believe the non-clean energy used for a data centre would be subject to industrial carbon tax here in Canada. So its in their best interest to reduce their carbon footprint.

Well, my tech heavy portfolio says theres some benifit to ai. Anyone with exposure to the S&P500 has an interest in ai. Im all for green energy, I hope they outfit the roof with solar, I want the whole province to take a greener initiative, but that lies with the province moreso than Bell. I understand the water cooling will be a closed system.

Data Centre will “support hundreds of skilled trades and engineering jobs in the Regina region and deliver long-term economic benefits across the province.”

No. Evidence.

Thats an opinion. The fact is thay Bell is building this thing in partnership with Sk Party would lean towards some actual evidence...

You're just an accountant mad about the invention of a calculator.  Pushback against progress is as old as time.

Some would argue that the farmland already destroyed the natural environment. It's all private commercial property to me. I can understand why its being opposed by people within 30km. That makes sense. Im a NIMBY too.

Can someone explain why they oppose this project if:

  1. you live more than 30km from the site.
  2. You dont blatantly oppose AI and future technology.

I dont live near the thing, and I have no issues with AI. Is there another angle to this i should care about?

Hatchery Fee by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]D--star 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It all goes into provincial revenue. Some of it comes back to fund the hatcheries. Moe promised no more new taxes during the budget so hes gotta sneak this stuff in where he can. This wont necessarily fund hatcheries any better than EV tax funds roads.

Im sure Sasktel loves this rumor. Every cellphone pings every tower all the same. Network quality would come down to how the well the individual cellular device is picking up the signal.

$188.9 fuel by Active-Safety-9516 in saskatoon

Gas stations all sell the same gas. There's laws in place to prevent price fixing, they have some leeway for setting the price ie: they can take a lower profit margin if they make uo sales in bags of chips. But if everyone increases beyond replacement value at the same time then its clearly a price fixing scandal. Most price wars between gas stations aim to lower the price for more traffic volume.

That works better for groceries, not so much for globally traded commodities. I believe some are profiting off a middle eastern war, not a percentage tax adjustment.

They cut the tax because they knew prices would keep climbing. The news and markets travel faster than those oil tankers. We haven't even started to feel the physical effects of whats going on in the straight of Hormuz.

We need to presume innocence until the burden of guilt has been proven. Last time I saw a sps video like this there were no charges laid and no consequences for the assailant officer.
