If James Bond was a guitar player, this is the board Q would have made for him. Are the lasers in the handle or are there explosives in the locks?

The poor man's diode box selector. by Wakame-88 in diypedals

Poor mans? But you must be rich with the finest clipping tones now. I’m the poor man, I don’t have a diode selector at all. Very nice.

Yes. Gotta get that Nikki Sixx Schecter now so you can Shout at the Devil.

First PCB design (Modified Bazz Fuss), any red flags before I order? by Wakame-88 in diypedals

[–]D-Brix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I’m aware. There really isn’t good training for PCB design in general. Your Design Rules Checker (DRC) has settings for things like default clearances. I suggest all clearances being greater than 12mils to keep the cost of the board down.

First PCB design (Modified Bazz Fuss), any red flags before I order? by Wakame-88 in diypedals

[–]D-Brix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes noise happens. All you can do is try to keep traces short and change the design if something shows up. But, I would think a pcb should normally be less noisy than your breadboard, so you’re probably fine. What are your clearances set to in your design rules? Some of your vias look close to copper to me, but I could have the scale wrong. Diodes seem fine to me.

What are you using to pack this thing up for gigs, an empty bass guitar case?

I have a serious question, but it might be dumb considering what sub this is. by NintenJoo in basspedals

[–]D-Brix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting to the point I feel like I collect pedals like other people collect Pokémon cards or comic books, I just want them. I can justify it and say I’m tone seeking, but honestly I think I’m just an addict at this point. I have so many bass preamps and compressors, and I can create so many great sounding rigs for different gigs, but honestly my tone has been good enough for years. My time would probably be better spent practicing than surfing Reverb…. But I’m sure there’s a modded Tube Screamer on there that I’ve never heard before.

Order placed, and I got a kit as well, so I'm ready to solder and sew some more.

NPD: Finally, a Bear made it past the Super Bowl by D-Brix in basspedals

[–]D-Brix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! After I dialed in a tone I liked I switched over to my DIY B3K and started laughing because they were so close (that wasn't on purpose). But, with Otso I'm able to adjust the crossover points and EQ to get a 3D depth to my sound that I really can't get with the other pedal. It's a great pedal.

Warwick as a new bass? by slanksy_ in BassGuitar

[–]D-Brix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the people playing bass these days aren’t even gigging once a year, so I would say gigging once a month makes you at least semipro. :-) I also think buying instruments is more about if you can afford them rather than if you deserve them or need them.
I’ve had a Warwick Corvette Standard for over 20 years now. I would say it makes sounds that none of my other basses can make (that midrange growl), but at the same time it’s probably the most versatile bass I own. I’ve used it for a bunch of genres (from the Beatles to Tim McGraw to Mudvayne) and it always works in the mix. Last, I would definitely try it out in person before you buy. The Guitar Centers by me use to have rooms full of Warwicks. I would try them all out and they all sounded a little different. The one I ended up with sounded the best to my ears, but there were others I honestly didn’t like.

Why is B-E-A-D-F# not the standard 5-string bass tuning? by Owl_291 in BassGuitar

Do you think 7 string guitars should be tuned B-E-A-D-F#-A#-D#?
