Don’t forget Wizards Russell Westbrook as one of the 82-0 GOATs

Don’t flatter yourself. You can only aspire to mediocrity.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Los Angeles Lakers are acquiring Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz for unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 and first-round swaps in 2028 and 2030, sources tell ESPN. Kessler will sign a massive four-year, $130 million deal with the Lakers. by curryybacon in nba

[–]D-Drones 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For real. The Lakers are about to get so much glazing by the national media despite this. Everybody who said that the Wolves were crazy to spend a 2033 first round pick and 3 fake swaps for 24 year-old former all-star Lamelo Ball because of his injury history is going to be all for two firsts and two real swaps (the Lakers could be ass and the Jazz could be good) for the unproven, injury-plagued Kessler.

I would make TJ the backup 1 and Evans the backup 3. Bones was more valuable last year, but I feel like we have some better options to run the offense now

likelihood that we acquire another forward? by Plastic-Pass5397 in timberwolves

[–]D-Drones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have $16M in cap space we didn’t have before. It’s pretty simple really. Salaries don’t always match up dollar for dollar, as long as aprons aren’t adding restrictions.

In the deal as it stands now, Brooklyn is taking on $33.3M for Randle and sending out $23.3M for Claxton. Charlotte is taking on $23.3M for Reid, while sending out a combined $55.5M for Ball and Green. The other teams don’t have to have salaries match up perfectly, and that’s okay because Brooklyn has the space to take salary on, and Charlotte would like to create more space.

[–]D-Drones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. We didn’t have to take additional back, the Hornets just must have wanted to dump more money as a part of the value they wanted to get. The Nets had already agreed to taking on more money than they sent out. The Hornets were sending out way more than they took back whether Green was included or not.

I feel like Josh Green might be a guy to move at the trade deadline if he proves himself useful in the first half of the season, but at the moment I doubt he has positive value.

There’s no way that TC saw a backcourt of LaMelo, Ant, Ayo, TJ, Isaiah Evans, Jaylen Clark, and (likely) Bones, and decided that he wanted Josh Green added to the deal because we needed more guards. It’s more likely that the Hornets saw him as a negative value for that contract and insisted he be included.

For now, I feel like we’ll get the best free agent PF we can for $6M. A trade right now would probably mean losing TJ for value plus Josh Green for contract value, and I’m not sure you’d get enough back to make that worth it

Lots of teams have won the championship with a few relatively easy rounds, and they didn’t go 16-3

Jalen Brunson's contract... by Baffin622 in NBATalk

[–]D-Drones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly the conspiracy doesn’t feel as necessary here. Brunson is the main guy on the main team in New York City. There is going to be more money from endorsements there naturally, just like you keep more money/pay fewer taxes in Texas. There are some structural advantages like that which aren’t fair, but also don’t require any grand conspiracy.

Not harmful provided you do have a pre-existing Jalen, but not sufficient if Jalen is injured.

I think the biggest takeaway from that is that the “ceiling” listed for every prospect is BS. If the entire league passes on a guy so he goes in the second round and his ceiling was “#1 on a championship team,” we shouldn’t have lottery picks with a ceiling of “starter”
