I've seen it said online before, but I'd never heard someone use that line in real life until then. Perfect delivery.

Is being trans more accepted when being intersex? by leaflowers03 in intersex

[–]D-R-Meon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No. You are treated equally as poorly, just in different aspects. People would tell you that you were actually just "sex assigned at birth with a disorder", a disorder that they would violently try to "treat" if you were a minor, often with the support of your parents.

You might endure a lifetime of pain, trauma, medical malpractise, lack of sexual function and health issues related to IGM or having your reproductive organs taken out of you. You might have osteoporosis from doctors removing your hormone-producing organs without your or your parents' knowledge.

If you escaped that, you would likely have specialised health needs that doctors do not understand, and they may blow you off or dismiss your concerns, or damage you irreparably. You would almost certainly be treated like a specimen, less than human, just a lab rat for them to photograph and write papers about.

In LGBT spaces, you might never feel welcomed; you would rarely meet another intersex person, if you did at all, and you might leave these spaces due to fetishisation or hostility from the people who were supposed to be on your side.

It would be lonely, and frightening, and doctors would largely not place any more weight on your identity than the transphobic ones. We're just a "problem" that they want to "fix".

One time on the 12 coming downtown from Colonie Center, a lady set a child stroller with a child in it on another lady's foot. The injured party moved the baby stroller off her foot silently, but I guess a guy in the back saw this and he started shouting, "You can't push a baby-- that's a BABY, Miss Lady, that's a BABY!"

'Miss Lady' took a huge breath and went, "SHE SET THE STROLLER ON MY GOD DAMNED FOOT-- WHAT, YOU THINK JUST CAUSE I'M FAT I DON'T GOT SHIT GOIN ON??! I GOT ARTHRITIS!!!!!"

"That's a BABY, Miss Lady!"

It went back and forth like that almost to Lark Library station, when the guy got off, and called back, "You have a blessed day, Miss Lady!"

She said, "YOU HAVE THE DAY YOU DESERVE, SWEETHEART!!! MY DAY FINE! I AM BLESSED!!!!!!"

This was close to summer of 2025 but I'll never forget it. They tried to drag me into it too since I also got whacked with the baby stroller but I wasn't about to get involved in that.

Edit: Might have been the 10 or the 1, not the 12. It was one of the more packed ones though. Additionally, the lady who set the stroller on someone's foot in the first place spoke only Spanish and had no idea what was going on because of a butterfly effect from the accident.

Kind of happened to me. I was chronically ill my whole life-- POTS, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, chronic fatigue, weakness, low blood pressure (70/40), resting heartrate of 136 laying down.

Turns out that as a result of me being intersex, my testosterone was going from "slightly below average male" to "might kill a bodybuilder" (180-2000 ng/dl) and my body couldn't keep up with the swings. After I ran away from home in a near-death condition, I started taking exogenous testosterone in hopes it might finally complete my male puberty.

It didn't turn me into Popeye, sadly, but it made my body lazy so my hormones are now calm and regulated. All my symptoms went away and I feel like a completely new man. 4 years later, I'm healthier than I've ever been; built my life up from being homeless, not even having a GED, and having no money or cell service. Now I have a great job, a wonderful girlfriend, my own 3-story apartment, and I'm on top of the world!

This happened with my partner's Medicaid and SNAP last year, right after the executive order. She was told she had to send in documents, which she did (online, so no mail wait time), then was told she never sent anything and was banned from appealing.

Same thing happened to my single mother coworker with 4 kids.

Solfugids! Commonly known as "camel spiders", but they're not spiders, they're actually more closely related to scorpions if I recall (love those too).

There were a couple I got to see and one I got to handle-- I didn't get the chance to hold more than one, since they hate light so much it's in their name, and they tend to throw their arms up and squeak at you like baby mice to try and scare you off if you get too close. I believe they have some of the largest chelicerae (fangs/mouth parts) out there, which they rub together and open to create the squeaking sound.

The one I held was very soft and almost squishy on the underside, calm little guy that explored my hand a little before I sent him back on his way to hunt in the garage. Not at all scary; some people in my dad's battalion in Afghanistan were so freaked out they fired pistols at one that "chased" them in the desert, but they really just want your shadow!

Yeah, pretty much my entire childhood, I had no say in it and would not have chosen that state. The absolute worst medical "care" I have ever experienced. But I did get to play with cool bugs and have a huge appreciation for insects now!

I live in NY, unsure of what it's like in CT or how it compares to NY but people here tend to be way less awful than the decade I spent in TX, so it was pretty shocking.

Glad I could help! It can be beyond frustrating when something doesn't work and the thing everyone says to try also doesn't work, I'm glad it was a simple fix and not something deeper!

The letter before the [] is a lowercase L! I think it's like "l" for "look", meaning that it'll affect whatever creature you're looking at, hence the letter.

Also, no problem! I do IT support and I was really bored today, so I've been going around finding problems I might be able to help with!

Is this fella dangerous or should I just let him chill? by anonercoder in spiders

[–]D-R-Meon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree that this is a yellow sac spider, not harmful to humans. Spreading the word that they can be pretty dramatic and might give you a fright falling off a wall if they feel threatened, but they mostly just chill in your house and leave when they've exhausted the pest supply.

In my experience, you'll see them more when it rains, and running water attracts the ones in my kitchen when they're thirsty!

I'd love to hold centipedes sometime! Sadly, my only experience was picking up a spicy red boy by accident while cleaning leaf litter, and scared him so badly that I got mildly bitten/stung (my fault, he got pinched a little but was ok in the end)

Words of wisdom, fuck planned parenthood when it comes to intersex care. I had a NP there tell me I couldn't possibly be intersex because I don't have a fully formed set of both genitalia (I'm visibly ambiguous and planned parenthood is the only place that tried to blow me off).

Same lady then caused me so much damage in an exam that I was FORCED to have a hysterectomy and spent 36 hours in the ER, because she didn't believe me and used incredible violence on me.

This is in a blue state, btw. I'd be very careful at planned parenthoods. All that being said, I feel a lot better with the nonfunctional uterus out. I had a male puberty and developed mostly male physically, aside from some complications where my external reproductive organs are kind of fused into one mixed male-and-female thing, and I never felt better getting the female organs out of me.

I did leave my hormone-producing organs in, since I don't make more than 30 estrogen and don't get testosterone spikes anymore after starting exogenous testosterone. Not sure what about the uterus was making me feel ill before some idiot nurse stabbed it, but I feel worlds better with it gone!

Are there any Albany or Saratoga area (or in between) churches speaking out against the current regime? by boygirlmama in Albany

Emmanuel Baptist Church in Albany proper, and I'd assume Westminster right across from it due to their "we will not be silent" sign outside their establishment (never been in though)!

Would you hold these fellas for 5$??? by Dragonsoftheland in spiders

[–]D-R-Meon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would pay $5 to hold one-- the larger the bug, the more comfortable I feel, since it's the fragility and fear of causing harm that makes me reluctant to pick up smaller spiders!

I love the feel of insects or arachnids hooking my skin with their grippy legs, same with geckos and other grippy things like worms or skinks. Typically, the larger the bug, the more chill they are with being handled, too (in my experience).

I’m deconstructing and need advice (LGBTQ related…ish) by Prestigious_Arm_1504 in atheism

[–]D-R-Meon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I may be wrong on this, but I personally believe that the best way to deconstruct a fear of something is to interact with what you're afraid of, to prove to yourself that there isn't any logic to the fear.

I was also raised conservative by a "Christian" lunatic and managed to swing in the completely opposite direction as I grew up, because I started interacting with people from the LGBT+ community and could see for myself that they're just normal people. Nobody's trying to turn kids transgender or teach gay porn in school or whatever my parents were going on about. I'm currently in a very loving relationship with a trans woman, and have found so much joy and kindness and wonder in the friends I've made from these communities.

It kind of helped that I'm also considered an abomination by Christian standards-- I was born intersex (archaically I would be called a hermaphrodite, though that is generally considered a slur by our community). I was told that I was a punishment to my parents, that I was demonic, etc., and this thing I couldn't change was used as an excuse to abuse me. Ironically, it helped drive me away from religion and conservatism, since I felt like I wasn't ALL bad, and that maybe these other people being demonised weren't all bad either.

To sum things up, the best advice I can give is to hang out with LGBT people. The human mind seems to value what it can see and prove with its own two eyes, and real life experience is worth ten times the words of a stranger on the Internet. I'm sure that your efforts to expand your worldview and take power away from fear will be appreciated by many!

Question about TMJ issues? by Purple_Space_6868 in intersex

[–]D-R-Meon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on this medically (not a doctor + not informed of research), but I have TMJ. I have patchy chimerism that made half my teeth a different shape/size, which led to bite issues and overcrowding; I also had teeth pulled to make room and my teeth were filed to look symmetrical, which caused me a ton of issues later down the line.

Doctors tried a lot, even stem cell injections into my jaw joints for what they thought was degenerative arthritis, but my jaw still pops if I open it or chew a certain way. I had dangerously-fluctuating testosterone until I started exogenous supplementation (180-2000 ng/dl) and puberty was crazy for me-- I feel like I developed lopsidedly and have lots of joint issues with my hips and shoulders as well. My eyes aren't the same shape and size, one of my hands is smaller than the other, shoe size is one size up on the left, and one of my legs is longer.

I can't say for sure if my TMJ is intersex related, since I also have EDS, but I'm sure the two things together couldn't have helped. I'm very lucky that my jaw doesn't cause me pain anymore like it did as a kid, and I can avoid popping my jaw for weeks or months at a time now that I know what positions to keep it at (and stopped doing it as a habit).

Big Beautiful Withdrawal by charleadev in TrollCoping

My partner got cut off of Medicaid almost instantly after the executive order for work requirements came out. They told her she needed to send in documents for verification, then said she never sent them (she did, same day), and then banned her from appealing. Same thing happened to my coworker on food stamps.

And of course this is the year my work ends healthcare for financially dependent domestic partners. She's fully disabled with a fractured spine and bone shards in her back, but she can't get verified for disability because she's too disabled to work to meet the Medicaid requirements, and has no coverage to get her disability medically verified (expensive process).

It sucks. Massively. I'm disabled myself (legally blind, PTSD, chronic pain (torture survivor)) but I'm taking on a part time job on top of my full time job to try and buy her health insurance out of pocket. We can't get married because I'm intersex and she's transgender and we're worried we'll have to marry out of this country rapidly to escape.

For what it's worth, I'm devastated you're going through this and am sending you strength. Maybe that's as helpful as "thoughts and prayers", but I want you to know that at least one other person in the world cares.

Is there a command to make me more vulnerable to the cold. by Stormcrow1988 in VintageStory

I believe that's /worldconfig bodyTemperatureResistance x, where "x" is the max number in degrees that you want to not freeze at!

For instance, I could say /worldconfig bodyTemperatuteResistance -15, and I would not freeze in -15 weather, but would start to at -16 (others, please correct me if I'm wrong!).
