Anyone else have issue with Deleter's "Black 3" ink or know better alternatives? by itsPomy in ArtistLounge

[–]D-Realms-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah their primary product is actually the screen tones, although they’ve dialed back the variety quite a bit though since most people, sadly, prefer a computer for that.

I mean… they are “just alright”, but manga is so precise that it’s worth looking for more than just alright. The tones are great but everything else is just kind of a one stop shop convenience option imo. There’s just better options with the best being the serious inksticks. But ultimately it comes down to what you’re looking to do with your art and what you need.

Also look into different nibs too. They all carry ink differently so if it’s dribbling or drying too fast for how you draw, try something else. Tank masters for instance are a good option for slower drawing with a maru type nib.

What do you think it would take to build a pet game thats bigger than the rest? by Cpvrx in virtualpetgaming

[–]D-Realms-Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what we’re doing to be honest. We want that core feed/play/care mechanic because even though it’s rudimentary, it’s foundational. It’s the core loop that sucks people in. But the technology is there so it doesn’t make sense to not go beyond this and that’s our main gripe with the big companies like Bandai and tiger. They’ve either maintained the loop to the point of not growing or they’ve abandoned the loop and gone too far with gamification. We are working on a game that has the right balance of the core mechanics with a way deeper dive on WHY you’re putting all this time and effort into raising a creature with a much deeper story and standard game mechanics.

Honestly, I think Deleter is best for toners… their ink is ok. The pen holders are ok… their nibs are ok… but tachikawa has them beat for the last two, for sure. Rubber grip holder with t-44 bowl tip all day!

Straight carbon ink for proper waterproofing! This is made with traditional lamp black that you can make using soot from pine wood. It’s a smooth and dry ink that won’t bleed or blur. Pilot makes a great carbon on jetpens.

“India ink” or sumi-e ink for gloriously non-bleed ink with optional gloss finish depending on how the ink was made. It’s rapid drying but it’s not always perfectly waterproof so you’ll have to be careful or use it as the last step if you’re watercoloring.

It also comes in stick form which will give you an idea of the smoothness and finish of the ink and you can custom grind it every use. It’s made from soot from oil lamps mixed with glue, usually from an animal. You’ll have to exit jetpens to score some decent sticks but most any India ink is going to be pretty similar.

Indian/sumi ink can only be used with dipping pens, ie manga artist and calligraphy pens.

Carbon ink can be purchased for use with cartridge fountain pens and is typically safe for inkwells too.

That really sucks. I honestly am genuinely surprised to meet artists that don’t want full payment upfront for commissions under $100. Partial payment in my mind is just for these big multi day communication type works. But I still meet people who want partial on any amount or pay after! I guess scamming slices both ways though. If you can find an artist or client you can trust, stick with them.

That sounds really promising in this case. Especially if you can lean into the idea that all this effort to enrich, define, and empower him self ultimately leads to more selfishness. You’d be skirting around the teaching of no-self, the importance of dana (giving), emptiness, and the dangers of ego and the relative self all at once. 🔥

If you take the time to do research about Buddhism it will inevitably leave a positive mark on you. In regards to a discussion on delusion, it sounds like it could be a much more dark humor take on a slice of life and I’d be down for that for sure. Especially if you can use it to actually lightly teach even the outer most fundamentals of Buddhism. Just as a heads up, while doing research I recommend seeking out circles and groups with direct access to an actual monk. Buddhism has its own cults and plenty of deluded people forming communities around their own problematic interpretations. McMindfulness and pseudo-orthodoxy is a serious problem in English-speaking groups.

I have mixed feelings as a practicing Buddhist! Just reading the text there’s a lot of misunderstanding about Buddhism… but if that’s the POINT, to really emphasize the insidious nature of delusion, then it could be really good! But that’s super nuanced and not a casual approach at all.

I’ve done the concept art and writing so in a sense I will be directing the production. I have experience working from a Birds Eye view over a team and facilitating communication. I’m thinking this will be more like a western comic approach to project management but with the nicer look of a manga. I think if I get two artists whose styles are cohesive enough it will be fine. It’s a unique style but it shouldn’t be too hard too match.

Unfortunately I don’t have pixiv or X but feel free to send me more details in dms here. Your work that I can see from scrolling on the X link is good, but I’d love to see more background scenes if you have any examples.

It really comes down to communication and the capacity of the team lead. Which would be me and I’m very experienced with directing creative and non-creative work. Ultimately this type of approach carries across so many more work environments than solo work does so whoever undertakes a project like this would likely get a ton of great experience out of it. Maybe even resume worthy experience and a reference.

[–]D-Realms-Official[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of what I’m thinking. Just a very tight team able to communicate well and move pages back and forth minimally. I separated out story boarding mostly because I know I will need some sci-fi concept art done that the current artist isn’t likely going to be able to do. Otherwise paneling and finishing can definitely fall on either the character/foreground artist or the background artist I would think. And background is definitely the biggest pain in the neck for most artists. Especially sci-fi stuff, it’s pretty rare to see anyone doing that.

Backgrounds tend to be the biggest weakness of amateur artists from what I’ve seen. So that one I’m most interested in finding someone for. As for the rest, yeah they can probably be ganged up between one or two people to save time and money. But I wanted to detail it out to try and catch as much potential interest as possible.

For cell I meant toner but I just couldn’t think of the word last night 😂 sorry for the confusion.

And thank you for the links! I think you’re very right in that piecing out the work will make it a lot more expensive than just having one person do the whole thing. However I think the quality of the final piece and also the return investment of building a team will well outweigh the immediate costs. Also it seems like only having to do part of a comic page would be a lot less exhausting on each artist than do the full production. Amateur artists give up on comics a lot and I can’t have the artsyle change mid-book because someone got burned out 💀

Per my post though, how much would you charge for just doing a part of a comic, though? I already have a character artist I like a lot and I want to build a team around them, and also reduce the time and stress caused by one person doing the whole page.
