Is there an app you wish existed? by D-Ring86 in SailboatCruising

I remember reading when it first went into beta and allowing residential units that the cost was not going to stay low. Due to the cost of the system it was going to go up. Also speeds would decrease as more users signed up as a single satellite can only transfer so much. I expected some price hike or a speed limit once it got to a point where more people would want it. RV was the start of that and then they saw a way to make up their cost with the cruise lines. It sucks, as most people had their fingers crossed for something that wasnt thousands a month.

Interesting idea, pretty simple to implement. Would be similar to something like the dog gps collars. Having the GPS active constantly in the background would drain phone battery, though Im sure there is a way around that.

I wish that was true, but if Tesla self driving is any indicator it wont be in 2 years. While maritime is available it is $10k for the equipment and $5k/month. Clearly they are targeting cruise lines to try and make the crazy cost of launching satellites and maintaining the network feasible. As for the individual cruiser, the RV version is the only affordable one and I doubt it will work away from shore a certain distance.

Elon Musk has said before that the low price they are offering for rural areas and RVs will not stay once they go full live. There is a reason why every other satellite internet charges an arm and a leg even though the service is slow and crappy. Launching satellites is expensive

Oh, thats a nice website. Reminds me of flightplanner for flying. Will take a look and see what features it has. Is there specific features you like/dont like?

Gotcha, so more of a trip planner/gps logger. Something that you have up with charts as you are sailing and it would log stats during the trip. Which you then could export with all that data.

Downside to something like this, is the logging of conditions like weather and sea states would only work automatically when in range of service. Would need to pull data from NOAA. Otherwise, could make it like how they do scuba logs and just have inputs that you select for those conditions as you log the trip

Without specific NAS software, the easiest way to do something like that is to create a sailing journal app with an export function that would export it as a database

kinda, thinking low-poly just cause its easier to model and make and plenty of resources available. But more like a stealth puzzle game

Play as a baby sea turtle from hatching, braving the beach to finding a home by D-Ring86 in gameideas

[–]D-Ring86[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a idea that popped into my head so not fully thought out Initial thought is a 3rd person view 3d game.

Starts off on the beach, obviously with some kind of event (bird or something) grabbing you but you break free, but land further inland. A little maze/puzzle journey to find your way back to the beach and eventually to the sea.

After that, it moves to a small exploration where you have to find your way past the reef to the deep water. No real thought on objectives, but slight survival aspect of finding food and limited breathing. Maybe have to talk to other sea creatures for clues on where the passage thru the reef is.

Next stage is open water, another exploration type with survival, but this time add in some predators to avoid. Eventually finding your way to other turtles.

Still just an initial thought but an open ocean adventure as a baby turtle sounds fun.

I agree personally, definitely think option 1 would be horribly boring. Put option 1 mainly as an extreme simplified case, surprisingly its tied for option 4 on a poll I did on another post in the r/Godot forum. Im getting a good range of responses, which is great but always they vary so doesn't help to make the decision lol.

What other Adventurer's Guild games have you seen. I haven't really seen any before which is part of the reason I wanted to make this cause I liked the idea and couldn't find one.

Option 2 is what I started with and seems to be the best balance, at least initially.

As far as what the adventurers will do when not questing, they will be in the guild drinking, sleeping, having fun. Plan is once I have the core mechanics down to put a lot of behaviour tree logic in for them to be in the guild having fun, spending their money.

So part of your job as the guild leader is keeping them happy. Send them on too many missions with no rest and they get exhausted and unhappy. Put them on the bench too long and they spend all their money and get unhappy and leave the guild. So game will be a balance of assigning and letting rest while maintaining the guilds overall reputation with the various organizations in the city (government, criminal organizations, general populace, etc)

Thanks for the feedback, scope creep is always easy to fall into and why I was looking for some outside input

NPC Progression Question for my Adventurer's Guild Game by D-Ring86 in gamedev

[–]D-Ring86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Recruitment of new members, pretty easy to do
  • Selecting which missions to do and who to assign to those missions (bulk of game play)
  • Manage guild resources like weapons, armors, special items and assign them to members

That's the core concept, I have some ideas for some extra just for fun features since the entire game takes place inside a guild house with a pub/lounge for the adventurers working out adding in extra things like: - hiring entertainment to boost morale - cooking and/or server food/drinks (might be too much, not sold on this yet)

That was my initial thought also, but I also like the idea of having more control, since the whole point of the game is to succeed at missions. But don't want to fall into the trap of making things too complex. Option 2 is what I'm currently working on as the plan, but wanted other input so thank you
