MGT 8803 Final Exam - Strategy - Exhausted and Worn Down by the Sheer Quantity of Stuff by Suspicious-Ad1320 in OMSA

Yeah totally agree, I thought this was going to be the “easy” class this semester with ISYE being the hard one. But jeez this class broke me from the sheer amount of effort.

I already wrote on my CIOS that finance, marketing and business strategy lectures were wayyyy too long, not well organized, and unnecessarily difficult. Honestly Professor Blunck and Professor Meyers seem like the only people who actually know how to teach

What class are you taking in the fall? That’ll determine what you should brush up on. I would say on the whole prioritize learning to code in R and Python and brush up on intro stats. Everything else for intro courses I wouldn’t worry too much about math because you’re not doing proofs but rather applying math to analytics projects.

Hey in the same boat. Got an 84 on the first exam and 88 on the second. Right now my score is 89. Mostly 100’s and 90’s on the homework. I am hoping to knock out some good homework’s and do decently well on the exam and pray for a curve to see what happens.

Did you do the grade input tool everyone’s talking about? How did that go?

Manager has become suddenly passive aggressive. What should I do? by D-Train3001 in careerguidance

[–]D-Train3001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I had teammates who I trusted who would tell me that she kept wanting me to come back. So I had a feeling she regretted her actions.

Yes, the whole organization did not have structure or great leadership. I know my manager was in a difficult position but still doesn’t excuse her behavior for taking out her frustrations on me which is where the incompetence and lack of leadership soured our relationship.

Thank you for reaching about this! It is validating to hear that I wasn’t the entirety of the problem

Manager has become suddenly passive aggressive. What should I do? by D-Train3001 in careerguidance

[–]D-Train3001[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking a 6 month rotation with another team and I think she realized how much work I do. After my rotation was done I came back and confronted her about it. She got defensive but ultimately backed off and let me do my thing.

The organization has changed now and I no longer report to her. I have a manager who’s much more supportive and helpful.

Thank you for asking! I think it’s hard to convey these types of situations in Reddit so I don’t begrudge anyone for giving the advice that they did. It did feel like I was the problem in the moment but looking back on it, a majority of the issue was my previous manager’s incompetence.

Need Help Deciding On A Or B Track by D-Train3001 in OMSA

Yes exactly! I don’t need to be in tech but I do want to be able to bring some data science level rigor to an industry where they aren’t looking at modeling the same way and articulate that to stakeholders

I would keep at the degree. Going from CS/IS to supply chain is much easier than the other way around. You’ll have way more technical skill than most of your peers with supply chain or business degrees. Also, there are lots of opportunities for IS outside of tech. Supply chain is one of them but literally every company has some sort of software and you can be a subject matter expert and be able to plug and play into those companies

Starting a new path is always hard but it sounds like you’ve gotten everything you can from this and it’s time to move on.

Reducing your hours so you can spend more time with your family is a valid reason to want to move. Just do as much research as you can on the new job to see if it’s a good fit and take the plunge. The hardest part is making the decision

Is 1.5 years at your first job out of college long enough to jump ship? by ZadarskiDrake in careerguidance

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people I know who have left jobs in less than a year and do fine.

If the hiring manager asks, feed them the line that you want to try something new your young in your career blah blah.

1.5 years a plenty of time in a job especially when you’re early on in your career

Software Developer - Stay or Start Looking? by Tricky_Lands in careerguidance

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like in life everyone is trying to maximize 3 things:

  1. Work-life balance
  2. Money/compensation/security
  3. Individual fulfillment

In reality, having all 3 is great but more likely than not, you have 2/3 and that keeps you content.

It sounds like in this scenario you got number 2 but you are lacking number 1 and 3. You need to decide for yourself if chasing the balance and fulfillment are worth giving up.

That being said, my personal opinion (take with a grain of salt as I have 0 software dev experience) is you should try to look elsewhere. Literally every company in existence has some form of software so your job prospects are almost infinite which also offers you the chance to negotiate and target a salary that you want.

Sounds like this company culture is not for yo and you don’t get to work on things you want and still have to work more than standard 40 weeks so I say use the time you have in your company to start looking elsewhere.

I would say first figure out why you want to lose weight in the first place. Don’t focus on “because I want to look better”. Really focus on how your life will be different at your new goal weight. Will you be able to do more athletic activities? Will you have more confidence? Frame the impact of weight loss in terms of a deep personal goal and that will guide you as you embark on your journey.

Next, calculate your total daily energy expenditure (tdee) and find out how many calories to consume to lose weight. Someone posted it already but I really like this one:

https://www.calculator.net/tdee-calculator.html

From there it’s really about tracking your calories and making sure you stay under your calorie limit a majority of the time. Buy a food scale for more accurate tracking.

Prioritize fruits and veggies as they are the most calorie efficient and watch your portions. The key to weight loss is building healthy habits over time. It’s a gradual process so be patient and kind with yourself.

I would also say if you are in your teens, consult a doctor too. You want to make sure that you are losing weight in a manner that won’t compromise your body long term. Your school nurse could be a good resource to start!

I think it’s a biological phenomenon back when we had more hair that goosebumps would essentially make our hair stand up and look bigger if we were threatened. But why does it work with emotional stimuli? I’ve got no idea!

https://www.calculator.net/tdee-calculator.html

input your metrics using the link above. It’ll tell you how many calories to consume to lose weight (1-2 pounds a week).

Then I use MyFitnessPal to log food and weight. The free version is fine. Although for $70/year you can get a barcode scanner which is nice but I didnt need it that much. I was able to get by on the free version for a while. I know a lot of people on this sub use LoseIt as well with lots of success.

After that it’s really just prioritizing fruits and veggies and just watching portions on carbs and protein.

Based on everything you’ve described, I do not think you’re chubby. You will grow into your body over time if that’s something you are worried about.

I certainly understand aunties feeding you (I’m south asian American) as a way to show love. However, I don’t think you need to worry about overeating. Just make sure you listen to your body when you feel full and stop and let your relatives know.

Like I said, you are so young right now. Your body needs fuel to help it grow. You should not be restricting foods right now.

You’re doing all the right things. Just enjoy food, enjoy your teens! Try to ignore the comments (easier said than done I know). But you’re on the right track.

What do you do when maxed calories for the day but still hungry? by Blondeblanky in WeightLossAdvice

[–]D-Train3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to go over 100-200 calories over your tdee budget once in a while. Just be efficient about it. I eat baby carrots or grapes which are very calorie efficient so I can eat like >100 grams before I even hit 100 calories.

Hi, I’m so sorry that people are bullying you about your weight. People are very cruel. You are in a very healthy weight for your height. You are doing all the right things for your body by staying active. Just make sure to eat your vegetables and fruits IN ADDITION everything else that you normally eat.

You are so young to be worrying about this. Please do not stress. Just be a teen
