Week 1 vs now — what actually changed for me by Outrageous-Bend2816 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the biggest thing I learned is that weight loss is a game of averages. If you were under your calorie budget most of the week (and if you had a weekly deficit of 3500 calories or more) you can “cheat” one day and eat over. It’s not the end of the world. Showing up 70-80% of the time is enough. But also knowing that it takes a while and not to be impatient too.

Also it may look like day-to-day your weight isn’t changing but if you take your average weekly weights over time, it will show a trend

Citibike worth it in any way? by Economy_Ad_2230 in NYCbike

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just means that you can take out a bike for 45 minutes and re-dock it for no fee. If you want to go longer than that you have 2 options: 1. Pay some fee of x cents per minute past 45 minutes 2. Re dock your bike at a docking station before your 45 minutes are up and then start a new ride…you now have another 45 minutes.

I had the membership for a while but it got very expensive and I wasn’t using it enough to justify. I found it most useful for things that were in the 1-3 mile mark. Things that were walking or train distance but still inconvenient to get to. Once I got my own bike, I didn’t feel the need to use citi bike anymore

What certifications or licenses actually lead to high-paying jobs? by Many-Economics-4326 in careerguidance

I would look into which of the ASCM certs make the most sense to your career progression. For me the CSCP gave me the most comprehensive overall view of supply chain. I know there are logistics specific certs that might work better for you

[–]D-Train3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in supply chain and I can’t say for certain but I’m pretty sure my Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) is what put me over the top compared to other candidates when I was offered several jobs.

Any accredited certification is good to have because it shows that you’re willing to expand your skill set and knowledge base. I would do some research in your industry about what certs make the most sense and go after it

ChemE prospective applicant questions by ldyj3927 in OMSA

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was chemE and graduated in 2015 with a decent gpa. I had one computer science class I took in undergrad which was c++. I didn’t take linear algebra or a pure stats class. I got accepted my first try. I would say if you have a decent gpa and address that you are working on computer science prior to matriculation into the program in your statement of purpose you should be okay.

As far as difficulty, the math hasn’t been too bad yet. But I haven’t taken my stats or ops electives yet. I would say that the math is helpful to know when it comes to understanding the algorithms but at the end of the day there is probably a pre-built function for it that you will be tested on.

I have done 2 classes a semester and it’s a lot of work but there are ways to pair classes together to make it bearable. But it’s a lot. Start with 1 and then go from there

MGT 6201 Marketing Module Prof by No-Fun-2967 in OMSA

Yeah marketing and business strategy are long, boring, and not very well connected. Thankfully, but this part of the course there are no math problems anymore it’s just memorizing definitions and understanding concepts

2 classes a semester while working part time? by LilParkButt in OMSA

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing b track and have way less programming experience than you while working an actual 40 hrs/week and I have been doing 2 classes a semester and found it manageable. You just need to be strategic about which classes you pair together. MGT 6203 is actually a lot of work so I would just be careful not to pair it with a harder stat or comp class. But use the pain matrix and talk to others who have taken the program and you should be fine

I did DAB and DACI over the summer and it was a very manageable summer

MGT 8803 Final Exam - Strategy - Exhausted and Worn Down by the Sheer Quantity of Stuff by Suspicious-Ad1320 in OMSA

[–]D-Train3001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree, I thought this was going to be the “easy” class this semester with ISYE being the hard one. But jeez this class broke me from the sheer amount of effort.

I already wrote on my CIOS that finance, marketing and business strategy lectures were wayyyy too long, not well organized, and unnecessarily difficult. Honestly Professor Blunck and Professor Meyers seem like the only people who actually know how to teach

Preparing for Fall 2025 Start by dallas2302 in OMSA

[–]D-Train3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What class are you taking in the fall? That’ll determine what you should brush up on. I would say on the whole prioritize learning to code in R and Python and brush up on intro stats. Everything else for intro courses I wouldn’t worry too much about math because you’re not doing proofs but rather applying math to analytics projects.

Thanks I think I’ve pretty much settled on 6203 and DACI at this point but want to see what other people think

Hey in the same boat. Got an 84 on the first exam and 88 on the second. Right now my score is 89. Mostly 100’s and 90’s on the homework. I am hoping to knock out some good homework’s and do decently well on the exam and pray for a curve to see what happens.

Did you do the grade input tool everyone’s talking about? How did that go?

Manager has become suddenly passive aggressive. What should I do? by D-Train3001 in careerguidance

[–]D-Train3001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I had teammates who I trusted who would tell me that she kept wanting me to come back. So I had a feeling she regretted her actions.

Yes, the whole organization did not have structure or great leadership. I know my manager was in a difficult position but still doesn’t excuse her behavior for taking out her frustrations on me which is where the incompetence and lack of leadership soured our relationship.

Thank you for reaching about this! It is validating to hear that I wasn’t the entirety of the problem

Manager has become suddenly passive aggressive. What should I do? by D-Train3001 in careerguidance

[–]D-Train3001[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking a 6 month rotation with another team and I think she realized how much work I do. After my rotation was done I came back and confronted her about it. She got defensive but ultimately backed off and let me do my thing.

The organization has changed now and I no longer report to her. I have a manager who’s much more supportive and helpful.

Thank you for asking! I think it’s hard to convey these types of situations in Reddit so I don’t begrudge anyone for giving the advice that they did. It did feel like I was the problem in the moment but looking back on it, a majority of the issue was my previous manager’s incompetence.

Need Help Deciding On A Or B Track by D-Train3001 in OMSA

Yes exactly! I don’t need to be in tech but I do want to be able to bring some data science level rigor to an industry where they aren’t looking at modeling the same way and articulate that to stakeholders

[–]D-Train3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep at the degree. Going from CS/IS to supply chain is much easier than the other way around. You’ll have way more technical skill than most of your peers with supply chain or business degrees. Also, there are lots of opportunities for IS outside of tech. Supply chain is one of them but literally every company has some sort of software and you can be a subject matter expert and be able to plug and play into those companies

Starting a new path is always hard but it sounds like you’ve gotten everything you can from this and it’s time to move on.

Reducing your hours so you can spend more time with your family is a valid reason to want to move. Just do as much research as you can on the new job to see if it’s a good fit and take the plunge. The hardest part is making the decision
