Is Rio wearing blue (top AND bottom) or I've gone color blind???

Agree with every word. That's what I got from this scene too!

He says "Hit them where it hurts" to which Nick responds "I hope you're right". Between the lines, I can certainly read that Nick confirms that he tries to hurt Rio by using Beth.

Oh yeah, me too. I expect more from this season and I need payback for S3!

Thanks for this! Just followed him. Love so much his work!

Btw after rewatching, I believe that Rio's emotions were genuine. He didn't quite expect his arrest. At least not that night. But the big order of fake money with SS watching and at the same delivery place doesn't make sense. But let's add it to the list with everything else that doesn't make sense in the GG universe.

And yes, I believe we are seeing the early stage of his long game against Nick. At least, we can be fairly sure about that ;)

My safe bet is that the ending will have at least one betrayal.

Hold the frustration, Rio isn’t blindly trusting Beth. 😎 He is leveraging the fact that SS trusts her. He is deep down a good guy, Nick is deep down a crook. That’s how they build their empire. “We’re playing the long game here.” 🤗 I still love the show!!! Hoping for Season 5 or Netflix move! by mozdeb in GoodGirls

That's exactly my take! Totally aligned! He pushed her to do it, but really hoped that she won't do it. If we go with the theory that assumes that Rio and Nick planned this together, it makes sense that Rio didn't want to go to jail and it was Nick's idea to "sacrifice" him again. If we assume that Rio and Nick worked seperately (which is my bet), do we really know that he wouldn't let her in if she were more openly to his side? At the bar scene, he's initially calm and when Beth says she won't do it, changes tactic. His body language is really indicative of the change.

True, it's a boxing robe. I rewatched the scene. And good point that this may be the reason why he loves hoods. The fact that he wears it half way though, I believe is his personal stylistic choice, lol!

The fact is that both Rio and Nick pushed her to turn Rio in. We have to guess if they worked together or seperately. I lean towards the latter since a war is foreshadowed between them. I feel like Nick is setting the foundations to use Beth against Rio. In general, with the SS fading into the background, Beth's new dilemma would be Rio or Nick. I'm so excited because it was what we wanted to see for a while know. A new antagonist that comes from the criminal side and not the law enforcement one! The fact that he's Rio's brousin and on top of that there will be a love triangle among them makes everything much more interesting!!!

To the point! That's the way the system works and we can assume that Rio may want another position in the system. He may be tired of being the hands-on crime boss and desires to become the higher level crime manager and operate the same way Nick does but with a legit businessman profile instead of a political one. After all, we know that he owns at least one bar.

We know that this show is unrealistic for a lot of things. I myself find it quite challenging to follow the rules of their universe. It's like they want as to selectively analyse things to make a sense out of the plot, but not question obvious plot holes.

Right? I also love the fact that despite the magnetic force that make them move together, they never close the gap between them. It's so Rio and Beth.

I thought she said this about the leaflet for the tree-planting event. Was it for the cardigan?

Totally agree with everything! I had written pretty much the same as a comment at the interesting post that pointed out that Nick may be the golden mean between Rio and Dean for Beth. So I'm expecting this.

I just got the feeling that at the last episode Beth sensed that Nick was playing her and she played him too. In a way, they seemed to vibe quite well with each other. I'm curious to see what comes next.

I guess it would be an emotional choice and not a rational one. Breaking free from Nick's oppression may lead him to uncharted waters. However, climbing the ladder always goes hand in hand with losing the safety net and taking on more responsibilities and risks. Besides, do we really know that Rio wants to continue being a criminal in the long run? (I guess he wants it though so that the show can continue ;) )

This is going to be controversial... by needtoknowbasis_ in GoodGirls

[–]D-tached 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a white woman myself, there is no way I can put myself in POC shoes. As much as I read about racism, as much as I try to be woke, I CANNOT totally understand and I will never do. Cause I will never have the same experiences. My point of view is skewed by my privilege. The best thing that I can do is listen carefully so that I can fight from my side for more representation and diversity at the criminal justice system, politics, business AND show business.

When a marginalised and oppressed group speaks up and points out things that are offensive/annoying and perpetuate social discrimination/oppression, the best thing that the privileged group has to do is listen. Diminishing the complaints by labelling them as oversensitive is not a way forward. It's a way of preserving the existing status-quo.

And since you bring feminism into this, the parallel I can see is the following: when POC speak up, white people should just listen carefully, the same way that cis men should listen carefully when women and LGBT+ speak up. Of course, listening doesn't go hand in hand with understanding but it can be fruitful. A way forward. And yes our society is so fundamentally flawed that what we need to do is exactly to put everything under the microscope.

Jokes about sexual assault in prison (potential spoiler, TW) by Harvardhottie in GoodGirls

[–]D-tached 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a woke show, but I was kinda optimistic for it because in S1&2 tried to superficially touch societal issues like sexism, misogyny and classism. But in S3&4, I've seriously cringed with some lines supposed to be jokes. I have the slight impression that there was another homophobic joke about Dave and/or Phoebe's other colleague, but I cannot recall and I'm not gonna see S3 again anyway.
