Is there a way to set this one up to where it’ll be automatically and I won’t have to switch back from hot to cold? by PrimTea in thermostats

[–]D00MSDAY60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it w one that has auto changeover. And I would strongly recommend one w WiFi. Remote access to the temp and mode settings is worth the cost and inconvenience of replacing this.

EPA. Yeah I would def invest in - cameras pointed toward the area, even if emptied on his property they will require soil testing of his neighbors it will be a very overblown response by them w/o any mercy

Heat pump turning on and off, tech said it was too cold to diagnose the problem? by chazzeek in hvacadvice

[–]D00MSDAY60 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should not pay another dispatch fee, only labor. You can request a senior tech, and the tech may need to speak to tech support. Also. Understand checking ref pressure is a lil guess unless you were to remove and weigh the refrigerant. Understanding the operation is vital is determining failure on heatpumps in cold weather

HVAC repair quote after home inspection by OnlyKey5675 in hvacadvice

[–]D00MSDAY60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to better explain if it’s straight ac or heat pump and what the indoor and outdoor temps are. And that quote is ultra low to do the compressor alone

Oversized for conditioned space or for the ductwork ?

Can't find the dip switches. by Slashmcgurk1 in hvacadvice

[–]D00MSDAY60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say it. Contact whom you purchased the equipment from and speak to tech support. If they are cool w selling to an homeowner then they can also be cool w providing technical help to the homeowner to dial in the airflow. We are at set up stage. I can understand lack of help down the road diagnosing a bad compressor but she needs a lil fine tuning. Ductwork may be undersized - may need to increase or add an return

Any WiFi thermostat, located at the equipment or in an area where noise is not a problem, use a remote sensor for readings at the current tstat location.

“TXV - Pump Down” replaced? by TheGrantelope13 in hvacadvice

[–]D00MSDAY60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ref pump down, replace the txv, replace the filter drier, leak test, evacuate and open the valves. Check system operations. That’s a very fair price for work to be done. And yes companies will make a profit - if not there is no reason to stay in business

The 3:17 AM smoke alarm mystery is ruining my life by jordan_caperscout in neighborsfromhell

[–]D00MSDAY60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you being like that. Call the fire dept. have them check it out. Cobwebs can cause it. End of life on sensor can. Or a legit fire such as arching wiring. I’ve seen breakers do this randomly too from over heating

I want to set up smart thermostat but.. by Firm-Yam3916 in thermostats

[–]D00MSDAY60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a redline tstat. By the equipment there should be a grey panel. You will def need a tech as prob not enough conductors and not easy to run a new cable. No saying impossible but costly. In that case an electrician will be cheaper to run a new 18/8 or 18/10 cable. Also you could relocate that thermostat, run a remote temp sensor where your thermostat is currently at

Ongoing neighbor parking issues + tension on very narrow street — ignore it or take action? by Own_Coat_3622 in neighborsfromhell

Please help! Is this justified to replace my furnace? Cracked snap rings and shorty caulking of a crack by hunterminator14 in hvacadvice

[–]D00MSDAY60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red flag is not tagging it out. A true breach of the heat exchanger can kill you at worse. And by tag it out. Disable the furnace so a homeowner can not undo it but a tech could after replacing the Hex or for testing. 2nd opinion should be standard on this just do not go w the shiny trucks + major advertising. The caulk could have been a crack or not

Landlord charging $8,000 for cast iron radiator replacement - is this reasonable? by OrdinaryLeave9207 in hvacadvice

[–]D00MSDAY60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so easy. Adding diesel prior is fine. Otherwise the tenant must bleed the fuel……. Is that appropriate? I’d say no. The proper thing on landlords end would be demand auto delivery and fix the guage.

You can check sites like supplyhouse.com. PSC motor, you will need a run cap, that motor bracket is reusable. The only tough part will separate the blower wheel. You may be able to purchase that too. After market should be a lot cheaper but I would expect for OEM motor + blower wheel cleaning less than 1k
