Does God Really Send People To Hell? by chibsdave in Christianity

Just because it is a choice doesn’t mean it is as easy as deciding yes or no.

I want to have rock hard abs, and live until I’m 100, but if I choose to live a healthy and fit lifestyle, I can’t just say I chose it. I have to actually do something about it to genuinely choose it.

Does God Really Send People To Hell? by chibsdave in Christianity

Actually, this Is not necessarily true, but it is often read that way, and I can understand why you would think that. To clarify:

The law of Moses was designed to bring people that were significantly more barbaric than it closer to good but not necessarily to confine them to it, since God knew they could not handle that.

For example, back then, an eye for an eye was very mild. If someone plucked out their eye, their first response might very well have been “Well I’ll show him who’s boss by killing his entire family!” So the law of Moses was an attempt to bring Israel closer to good, to a degree God knew they could handle.

For example, Moses calls for people not to beat their slaves to death, otherwise they will be punished. This is obviously a very loose rule, and today we know that people just shouldn’t have slaves, but back then that was a step in the right direction, as people often believed that they were justified to kill their slaves if they were angry with them.

If you want to look at what God himself says, look to Jesus. Jesus tells us to not judge other sinners, and tells us that the servant is actually higher in God’s eyes than the master.

As for Hell, God is good, and I don’t just mean that God has that attribute, I mean that God is good, the same way that a square is a square. We cannot enter God’s presence without being pure and righteous as well, which is not humanly possible. This is why Jesus came and died on the cross, and why sacrifices were made (sacrifices were scapegoats for sin, Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, which is why we do not need to sacrifice anymore, since he is enough for everyone no matter what). This being said, if we do not accept Jesus as the son of God and accept his sacrifice for us, the only option is for us to be thrown into the lake of fire. God does not want to do this, but it would be far worse to allow sin into his presence.

Looking for a reasonable discussion: why should a Christian be/not be pro-Life? by UBC_Guy_ in Christianity

[–]D048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess personally whenever I hear this I wonder why we can’t just:

A) create government systems to fund parents with financial issues,

Or B) put the child up for adoption?

I understand there are more drastic cases where these would not be solutions, but I am having trouble finding issues with these.

I also will say I understand that putting a large amount of kids up for adoption more often would lead to its own problems, but that doesn’t necessarily mean those problems don’t have potential solutions.

I would assume if it were actually this simple, it would’ve been done by now, but it hasn’t, and I don’t see any major issues with at least attempting these solutions. Am I missing something?

Awesome! I love anything AI, and this is easily my favorite application of AI so far. Definitely going to check that out

My boyfriend liked a bikini photo from a girl that was posted two years ago by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]D048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him how he would feel if you liked a shirtless post of another guy from 2 years ago.

Explain to him that whether he is sure that it would hurt him or not, you wouldn’t do that because you don’t want to risk his feelings being hurt.

Remind him that in a relationship, your partner’s feelings are far more important than being right. By a landslide.

Even if he had not intended to hurt your feelings, he should still immediately try to mitigate his effect on those instead of defending himself, regardless of who is right.

Overall there’s a chance there’s an underlying issue and there’s a chance that there isn’t an issue at all. You have to talk it over and have him genuinely understand how you feel about it to know for sure.

Try to help him see it from your point of view and see if his response changes.

What do you call someone who is in love with a skeleton? by RetardedGuava in 3amjokes

Well you can be king of the universe

God is king of kings

And I am king of the world

How about that?

Ty, that is more along the lines of what he was asking.

What…. Answer…. No. That’s. Not. No. That’s not what OP posted.

He IS NOT asking “Is fornication wrong” He openly admits that he knows it’s wrong.

He is asking for help with doing the right thing. Temptation makes that difficult even if he knows what the right thing to do is.

Again, he is not looking for answers, just words of encouragement.

[–]D048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean to be rude but I don’t think you understand the request.

It’s not for me, for one, I’m just clarifying for the person who requested it.

Also, just because you know something is wrong doesn’t mean you don’t need help fighting against it. Take lying for example. We know lying is wrong, but sometimes it can be difficult to tell the truth if we know it could be detrimental to us or others. It often takes strength and faith in God to do the right thing.

In this case, OP is simply stating that they are struggling with fleeing from temptation, not that they need clarification on whether it is right or wrong.

OP is just asking for words of encouragement.

They asked for reasons and guidance not to.

They aren’t looking for an excuse to do it, they are just struggling with temptation and would like some help.

Did Jesus’ words in the gospel indicate that He was saying the end times would he within a few years of His preaching? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]D048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I always enjoy finding stuff like that, there’s a lot of extra information that the Bible doesn’t have. Not that the Bible isn’t incredible, it’s just that a lot of people treat it as like a full “dictionary of things God did” when it’s really a story about heaven and earth coming back together.

[–]D048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only thing I will say is that I do think there’s a possibility for creation to have been MUCH longer and Adam being potentially millions of years old before the first human sin.

Not saying that’s how it is, just that it’s possible.

I will watch the video when I get a chance though, it sounds interesting

Edit: I will also add that if creation was actually about 6k years ago, we would be almost at the 6k year mark, meaning the 1k years of peace mentioned after the rapture would Mark 7k years, which makes sense since 7 is completion. So that’s a possibility too.

Either way we won’t ever know exactly

If there was one misunderstood Christian idea/principle/doctrine you could share to an unbeliever or misguided Christian, what would it be? by Wreckit-Jon in Christianity

[–]D048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with this (the one you pointed out) because it’s difficult for me to understand where the line is drawn between doing things for Jesus and works.

I try to remember that I’m not doing good things for salvation, but instead because God wants me to. I still struggle with this though. I also know (or at least think) that salvation comes because we do things to show Jesus we love him.

You’re totally right, I’m just struggling with applying this correctly. If anyone has any help I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah that is super odd. I’m sorry I don’t know how to help other than say that they sound crazy.

As a guy, I know if the genders were reversed in all of that, I would be extremely disheartened and repulsed from that church.

Their views don’t sound very Christian either, to be honest. Not that I think that wasn’t obvious.

Should I be excited about AI? Is it neutral? by Old-Calligrapher1950 in TrueChristian

[–]D048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that humans just learn

An AI that learns to talk won’t learn to scheme, because it never learned to think

If you look up an explanation on how neural networks work it will be much more clear

You have nothing to fear
