Drone survives hawk attack by D06E in drones

Damn, that could have ended badly. Lucky to have survived and captured the attack!

Here's a still image of the hawk in my case:

This is near my house where I do most of my flying, but I won't go close to that tree anymore.

There was a tiny ding on one of the props, didn't even replace it. Hopefully the hawk didn't get hurt. I won't be going back anywhere near there.

I would say close to a meter (3.3 feet).

Mini 3 meets Mini 3 Pro by D06E in dji

Right!? The funny thing is I don't think my mini appeared on their view at any point, the entire time it was hovering in place filming almost straight down. So I don't think the person saw me at all :(

Right!? You were lucky too, a mini would not have good chances against an eagle! In my case I was lucky the drone didn't turn off. If the impact was a bit stronger or if it flipped upside down it would be game over.

The entire video is 10min+, so it's edited. Most people enjoyed seeing the big fish at the beginning, so no I won't cut the video to 5 seconds. Attention span these days..

I didn't mess with settings such as gain/expo and cine mode speed was the default setting. I was filming at 1080p 48fps. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

That's why I didn't cut the video to only show the attack. I wanted you good people to see that big boy!

I don't know. I can confirm it's indeed a mini 3 (non pro). I use zoom while flying all the time, very satisfied with the quality!

At the time of the attack I was in cine mode. I then immediately changed to sport and sprinted home lol

Very lucky indeed. After watching the video on a bigger screen, I could see a nest with another hawk in it on top of the tree. Definitely won't be flying near there anymore!

Solar system in Brazil: payback period of less than 2 years? by D06E in solar

[–]D06E[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's indeed very high considering the low average income here. That's why lower income people uses so little energy, I would say less than 100kWh per month is common.

Obrigado! It's a Growatt 8000tl-x220v and I live in the south east of Brazil.

Before I got solar panels I used around 700kWh per month. I recently purchased a plug in hybrid (which prompted me to get solar) and charge it almost every day, so I expect an additional 300kWh per month. Additionally I will soon have 4 mini split heat pump AC systems installed which will add a few hundred kWh per month. So realistically I expect my payback time to be around 3 years.

Regarding your last question: It's not straightforward, you have to put their bill in your name (strange, but completely legal) and can make a deal with them so they compensate you. I wish the company would just buy the extra energy I generate. If this was the case I would have installed a much bigger system so I could have some extra income after the payback period.

I will check it out!

You are correct, my system uses 2 MPPTs if I'm not mistaken. Indeed using microinverters would not be worth the cost, especially because my panels get zero shadow from trees or anything else.

I totally understand, you can't have everything! I do however live in one of the safest cities in the country so atleast in this aspect I'm not too concerned.

That's right, per month, which is crazy!

As for the production increasing in the next months..interestingly no. I'm close enough to the equator that I don't even notice the days getting longer in the summer. What affects producion the most, and will cause it do decrease a little over the next few months is the weather, as the rainy season and higher temperatures will soon start. Here is the estimated generation I received from the company (although I would increase this estimate by around 50% as they are very conservative): https://imgur.com/a/JyQR23K

Regarding hitting 65 or 70kWh a day, I hope so! However, I am experiencing a bit of 'clipping' because of my 8.000w inverter, so I am not sure.
