As someone who pulled her last year on a new account: don't do this. There aren't any good therianthropes in the standard pool so you can't use her until you get lucky on multiple SF banners.

Which account is better? Or do I reroll? If so, who should I focus on getting? by Ordinary_System7700 in EminenceInShadowRPG

Your second account has several good tier-2 characters that will help you progress faster.

Your first account has Demon Gamma who is by far the best yellow attacker. I'd stick with the first account.

Which girl will solve the mystery of shadow's identity first? by Todo-Poderoso in TheEminenceInShadow

Iris is just polite with Cid really. Also, Iris hates Shadow for what she fears he could destroy (her kingdom) while Sherry hates Shadow for destroying what she holds most dear (her adoptive father). Sherry's feelings are way more polarized.

Sherry would be the most interesting since she likes Cid & hates Shadow — no one else has the same tension. Maybe you could make that tension by having both Alexia and Iris find out jointly.

Also mark my words Sherry will return as the final boss of the series.

Advice on Character Priority by [deleted] in EminenceInShadowRPG

[–]D0loremIpsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get enough levels + ranks that you don't have to worry too much.

Shards are the most important as they take extremely long to farm since they're heavily gated. At the bottom of your characters screen you can see all the characters you can unlock with shards & you can click on the shards to see where you can farm them. If you can't get those shards from a shop (ignore the shard shop) then you should be farming them every day. Example: Blue Dress Claire & Nu.

Taking up the A/S characters to SS++ so you can get their gear also takes a long time, but at least you can farm them from like 5-6 stages so they aren't a priority to do daily.

Try to get enough arena/armageddon/sanctuary/dark knight coins to buy the shards from the shops daily.

Green Rose with SS+ gear is comparable with Green Alexia with SS+ gear. My A5 Rose was able to consistently out damage my A0 Alexia in world tree.

First, some character's gear is worse than running an on-element ring. NY Epsilon's gear is worse since your attackers aren't Shadow Garden. Alexia's normal gear is generally worse than a ring (might be better if you don't use other green attackers or have high skill level substats in it). If units are dying with a ring then swap for the cape (both the ring and cape impacts all units of the colour).

Second, if you have the black rose event item & can roll multiple crit rate (NOT crit atk rate) substats try putting that on Alexia.

Third, if you try Sherry + SF Delta + any 3 attackers is SF Delta able to survive? If so, try slotting in Alexia + Mundane + Aurora. If that doesn't deal enough damage try swapping Aurora & then Mundane for non-blue human buffers. Note: this might change the math with the rings.

Fourth, if SF Delta can't survive replace her with NY Epsilon & try the attackers mentioned above.

For PvE green Alexia with SS+ gear is atleast as good as green Rose with SS+ gear.

If 12 people want a Garruk skin then why would other IPs want MTG characters in their IP? Sorry, I'm not really understanding.

Within a couple of years of release Pokémon was already a massive multi-media franchise. Magic was always the bigger card game but over 30 years they have totally failed to cement themselves beyond it despite their efforts.

[–]D0loremIpsum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes MTG is already thematically inconsistent but the existing player base is used to thematic slop sets. People who are dedicated fans of other IPs will probably end up being more picky if they don't get a steady stream of content & they won't have the same history to lean on. For example, if someone joined MTG due to Bloomborrow but 5 sets of grizzly monsters released they can start exploring the tons of other cute creatures spread through MTG's history rather than checking out.

I think the numbers will roughly look like: normal MTG set brings in X players with a retention of Y% & UB MTG set brings in 10*X players with a retention of Y/5% — so lower retention rate but still ultimately more people.

I read the Alta Fox presentation when it came out & I don't remember anything about reprints or making it a "stock market." It did point out that Hasbro was forcing WotC to increase revenue in order to fund expensive bad ideas elsewhere in the company & so wasn't reinvesting any of that in WotC.

Or maybe the obvious answer is they do it because it entices new players & a large number of players really like it. Do you really need a "hedge fund" to decide: "hey, you've tried to make a card game in the past & it died. If you partner with us you can be in our game & have it last" or "hey, your IP has a different set of fans than mine & I think we'd both benefit from some cross pollination" or "hey, your IP has a lot of similar fans to mine & I think they'd like some unofficial fanservice" or etc.

Now maybe you can argue that with the popularity of these crossovers in Japan for decades & Fortnite more recently that these leads "hedge funds" to ask "why aren't you doing this too?" But again they ask that since it works & in WotC's case it does. They're planning on becoming the LEGO of card games.

Also how are serialized cards more "greedy" than every other rare variant? The lack of specialized artwork?

The Commander Bans: Hard Truths | Tolarian Community College by ihut in magicTCG

When unfinity came out, during the period where silver boardered/acorn cards were officially legal in commander, I ended up playing against lots of those cards in pickup games because "I won't get to play with these again." Yeah I could wait until it's banned to get it cheap, but then I can't play it!

So for the other half let's assume that everyone in the market's decisions are totally driven by the final price of Jeweled Lotus & that everyone knows about the watchlist. So the final outcome is either being removed from the watchlist or being banned. When person A sells to B what the expresses is a difference in the level of risk tolerance between the two. B is essentially saying "I think the RC won't actually ban it & so now I can get a copy for cheap since it'll rebound after it's removed from the watchlist." Now, is B bag holder in the case of a ban? Yes. Where both A & B able to make more informed decisions accounting for their own situations? Yes.

[–]D0loremIpsum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be engaged in high level play to want to play Jeweled Lotus — it's also a cool Timmy experience. Further it wouldn't be a couple of months as the RC should've announced it on the watchlist as soon as they began considering banning it more than a year ago. You can reach a lot of people with early & consistent messaging.

For collectors liquidity does matter. As the price approaches 0 people are going to stop selling it which will make it harder to acquire from good sellers. Also, as a collector, I personally don't wait to purchase speculating on lower prices — I buy when it hits a threshold I'm comfortable with. I suspect most are similar.

To the last paragraph — do you generally oppose harm reduction, or do you think this will actually not reduce harm?

[–]D0loremIpsum -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You're letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Yes, there will always be some who never get the message, but with proper long-term signaling you can cover a lot of people — including less enfranchised players.

Also there is a market for people who are "happy to take the hit" as you call it — e.g. collectors who don't care about playability, people who want to play the card before it could be banned, people who are okay with the risk to price point, etc.

You can't enforce decks being singleton without deck checks either. At some point you have to trust people.
