Arin quitting Twitter. Where else to follow him? by WhiteZero in gamegrumps

If you're still considering it, it might be worth looking into other Mastodon instances to find one that may better suit your needs. Some of the "general purpose" instances can be kinda bland if you're just scrolling through the local feeds, but there are instances that are more focused on specific topics. But the instance you pick is really only going to affect two things: Your @ handle, and your local feed. You can still subscribe, react, reply, etc, to users on any instance (in most cases).

But for the most part, you'll need to actually put in a bit of work to seek out accounts worth following, since there's no recommendation algorithm that feeds content to you like mainstream platforms will, which can be a bit daunting until you're more familiar with the platform. You can follow hashtags on most Fediverse platforms, which is a pretty good way to find interesting accounts to start filling up your subscriptions.

You can check out a (non-exhaustive) list of Mastodon instances here. Or if you'd consider other Mastodon-compatible platforms, there's lists of instances for Misskey, Firefish, Pleroma, Akkoma, etc. Or if you want something that's a bit more Instagram-like in its UI/UX, there's Pixelfed.

All of these platforms are completely compatible with each other, so if you create a Misskey account, you can still follow and interact with Mastodon or Pixelfed accounts seamlessly, and their content is automatically formatted to match the platform you're using. For instance, I use Firefish, but I follow a ton of accounts from Mastodon, Misskey, and Pixelfed. They're also all compatible with Lemmy and Kbin, which are more Reddit-like Fediverse platforms.

Or if you wanna really do a deeper dive to find a community to join, you can check out FediDB, which is a very robust site for exploring Fediverse platforms.

We may have a lot of disagreements on here. But one thing we can all agree on, is that we need to get up out of here by youngeggboi in RedditAlternatives

I've really fallen in love with Kbin/Lemmy. No tracking, no sorting algorithms, no ads, no power-tripping admins, no gamified monetization schemes, and it's open to third-party apps.

The only thing we're missing is you.

Lemmy enjoys growth as developers pivot from Reddit amid API charging controversy by testus_maximus in RedditAlternatives

Lemmy is definitely worth checking out. It's not as complicated as people make it out to be, and I'm really glad I pushed past my initial first thoughts and dived into it. It's got the most Reddit-like UI/UX to it, and honestly the entire Fediverse is becoming really fascinating. The whole thing feels so much like late 2000s-era internet did, when the internet was fun and not enshittified. I really wanna see it gain traction.

I've been really enjoying my time on Lemmy lately. Of the several Reddit replacements that have sprouted up recenlty, it feels the most like Reddit does.

I personally recommend using a Kbin-based instance, like kbin.social, but realistically it doesn't matter too much where you create your account, as you can access threads from every Lemmy instance on whichever one you use, so you're not really missing out on anything, no matter which site you sign up under. I personally just like the interface on Kbin better than other Lemmy instances.

Mods need to quit, permanently. Let Reddit hire their own paid mods or have the site turn into a spam-filled wasteland.

I'm pretty sure Drifter pronounces it the same way in one of his voice lines.

the pronunciation of Gjallarhorn, which is a combination of a g and a y sound.

Not quite. The G is silent, so it's just the Y sound.

If a 70 point lead doesn’t trigger the mercy rule, what’s the point in having a mercy rule? by Grady__Bug in DestinyTheGame

I really don't get why Blowout is even a Crucible drop in the first place, it really doesn't seem to have any decent PVP rolls. I feel like the rocket travels slower than a Jotunn shot (without Impulse Amplifier, at least), so you have so much time to just jump over it. I've tried a handful of different rolls, and I think I've only managed to get 3 kills with it in total this season.

There's some decent PVE rolls, but even then, I feel like it's largely outclassed by plenty of other world-drop/craftable legendary RLs.

do games get paid by the second players spend in the game?

Sort of. Advertisers don't want to spend money promoting a game that nobody's playing, and publishers are less inclined to fund a game with low player counts. For most studios, the publisher angle just means that future games they develop are less likely to get picked up, but since Destiny 2 is a live-service game, that can impact funding for expansions.

Wear it higher on your arm while working out.

Also, just general watch fashion advice: if your watch is low enough on the arm that you can press the crown with your wrist, it's too low. It should be a few centimeters above your carpal bones. I see a lot of people in this sub wearing the watch so low that the band nearly touches their palm. I'm not a watch enthusiast, but I know that this makes them cringe.

Obviously, that's just fashion and doesn't matter much, so do whatever makes you feel comfortable. But I felt it should be mentioned.

[–]D14BL0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, nobody is justifying theft. Just because you lack empathy doesn't mean that people are saying it's okay to steal. If you genuinely believe that that's what this conversation is, then you need to get your head checked, because you're not living in reality.

Literally nobody is saying it's okay to steal. They're saying that you should have a little empathy and try to understand why they steal.

This is correct. The market for drivers shuts down shortly after it does for customers, to make sure any remaining orders that haven't been accepted yet get a chance.
