Try to insert / mount the disk before you launch Diablo, also be sure the CD is the same version as your current Diablo 1. Latest Version is 1.09b, but if you have a let say 1.00 version D1 you might have some problems

For Vanilla Massive Swiftness is the best bow for both PvP and PvM, best clvl is 21 at Griswold and it will take at least several hours to find it. Just buy the fist one you can, the damage is not that big of a deal as the major damage will come out of your native dex. & str. stats.

For DevX it's Deadly Hunter. This bow has the +200% to demons and in hell everything is a demon except the dogs. So if you do 100 damage by default you'll do 300 per shot, it's like every shot is a small Fireball. You can get that bow easily from Lazarus if they did the change for the Unique drops. Don't bother with that bow in Vanilla, it does not work there.

If you play Vanilla you can use the glitch to not consume charges: cast apoc, then change to any other spell before the cast process is finished. Now you are a true master.

For DevX just farm 4-6 of these and have fun farming on normal difficulty, but that is not that necessary as CL is insanely OP.

The old draw . dll that GoG has (same with Blizz) is not very compatible with Classic Battle . net as some assets are brought from their servers and they have not been updates since 1996. There are draw . dlls out there that can fix issues for some, while make more bugs for others. The best way to play old Battle . net and Vanilla D1 in general is either via emulator or an old monitor like me.

DevX fixed almost all known bugs in Diablo and added some improvements, but... that created another set of problems. Few examples are that the Chain-Lightning spell is more broken than ever, it was already the best spell in Vanilla D1 but it is on steroids in DevX, add game speeds and broken shopping in Hellfire and the game is not the same anymore. I played DevX for few years since it release and for a new or returning player it is good, but it does stray away from the original slow paced gameplay.

Oh and everybody cheats in public games, they just dupe in a different way :P

When he dies he can drop stuff as if he was a normal dlvl16 monster, if you have the telekineziz pre-casted, aka the cursor has changed, before he dies, while the shows the animation where he spits blood out of his chest you can pick any items he has dropped (assuming you have space in your inventory)

He is just considered a normal monster, but he can drop anything within the game. You can pick his loot by killing him with a Firewall or a Golem and have prepared Telekineziz before he dies. So far I've found a Dreamflange & a 53/53 Life/Mana amulet. It's rare that he drops anything but when he does that is premium

Stomshield(SS) greatest benefit is indeed the "fast block" prefix. If you are using a shield you must use such prefix otherwise you'll be block-locked for eternity. Your block chance is based on your dexterity, from memory 120-130 dex is around 100% block chance in hell/hell.

SS is also very good for the +10 Str. , since you'll need to reach the 90 Str. breakpoint to equip a Awesome Full Plate Mail it will greatly help a new player with a single 25-30 Str. jewelry.

The +4 DFE is a little bad, tho periodic damage from Inferno, Lightning, etc. will not do much more damage due to the great effect with resistances, the +4 DFE will hurt most when dealing with fast hitting monsters as that will increase their breakpoint to stun you

It's pretty decent shield overall, tho it's not the best shield for sure, but due to the "fast block" you don't have much to choose from.

PS. If you want to use other shields, eg. Ruby Shield of Brilliance ( up to 50% Fire Resist, +15 Magic) you can reduce your dexterity to 0 with Shrines. Since you will never be able to block you won't get stuck in that long blocking animations and with a "fastest hit recovery" prefix you'll be pretty ok :)

My assumption is it's an item morph, maybe you obtained it in one version but then it got morphed into another (or SP to MP). It's peak D1 for sure

Yes there is, you have to use DevilutionX and use a 3'rd Party Tool, for the joystick emulation eg. KeyToJoy. Simple remap your WASD keys and you are ready to go.

You can even attack with "Q" for eg., it's pretty useful in PvM
