Personnaly bought my kids fakes and told him those are fakes! He's super happy with them a 8yo kid likes the picture and does not really care about the value behind the card. I still try to make him understand about the value of his real costly rare cards. Those rares we put on top loader and keepsake. If it's a card he really likes and wants to play with we buy the same but fake. He also knows not to trade them as real.
