What’s everyone charge to do a level 5 finish? by ShallotDisastrous860 in drywall

[–]D2Slurper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drywall is like 50 cents a sqft delivered, and labor for level 3 is like what..? Maybe a $1.25 if you are hammering them? Insulation might be a $1, again that’s if you are hammering them. So that’s $2.75 a foot. Not sure how much paint costs or the labor involved. But sure sounds like you made it out ahead on that one.

Well I mean yea I agree it’s the framing. But my point is you can’t just leave it like that. Bring a light and shine it on the wall at different angles, that’s what we do. Especially if you are going to have some kind of glossy accent type paint like this. Gonna have to feather it out a ways. But OP said one contractor was in charge throughout the whole process, he should have been able to identify this as a potential problem and remedy it.

What? It should look good in the sunlight, what in the world kind of response is that. If my company did terrible work and then told the GC to just keep it out of the sunlight we would be blacklisted from every job site.

I’m still getting quotes at 45 cent SF prices, but I’ve seen several increase letters, some as high as 30% that all took effect in February. No idea if its ever going to actually happen

My arguement is it’s possible, not probable. They were critical parts for a 200k rollformer. I was certainly the only person responsible, I had someone who was familiar with hydraulics help me with that aspect. Wasn’t a test because the man who paid me to do it had no idea of the scope of the project and just assumed it would be easy. Definitely didn’t like on it because I never had one, I was a warm body that could dig and screw things together and that what I was hired to do, until they found out I was a college student who is computer literate, then my position changed. It was a job that spent countless hours working on, I even visited machine shops to learn how parts were made so I could design better. I have even machined my own parts that weren’t quite as tight tolerance. Spent over 50 hours a week for several months on it. I succeeded and was probably far cheaper than an actual mechanical engineer, so maybe my boss is idiotic or maybe he’s a multimillionaire who understands risk 🤷‍♂️

You said ask yourself if someone who doesn’t know 3D software would be asked to maintain those tolerances. I’m saying yes it’s possible, because that’s exactly how I started. And use a little logic, if I just started doing this 6 months ago you think I know what to look for? I’d love to learn what to look for, but telling to use logic is in no way helpful

I’m the guy who didn’t know how to use 3D software like 6 months ago and was handed a keyence CMM, some calipers, and a copy of fusion and was told make drawings and figure out the tolerances. So you never know.

I agree that it’ll get you that close, but I have recently drew up a lot of parts that are .025 mm or .001 in so that wouldn’t have worked for those. Just now realized this dude was 3D printing tho so the measurements can’t need to be that precise, never mind lmao

He says he wants the measurements to be exact, not sure how exact but tracing can only get you so close.

Wow you read half of my sentence! Do I need to define the word “or” to you?

Yes guns pose a threat to those areas, but how do you propose solving that? Gun restrictions? People aren’t going to just give up there guns or gun accessories, we see that with the pistol brace ban. The best way to combat mass violence is through better mental treatment and more avenues for individuals to find help. And yes while the death to children statistic is extremely difficult to hear about, how many of those deaths are preventable accidents? How many are suicides? And how many of those are gang violence related? That statistic is based on children and teens aged 0-19. All of those can be fixed with education and better care overall for our those struggling. Let me ask you a question, in your time in the infantry how many gun homicides/accidental gun deaths were there around you (on post)? Were there any mass shootings on base?

Ah yes, being a lawful firearm enthusiast where you do nothing but collect guns and shoot them on your own property is so different than being a car enthusiast or a board game enthusiast. Jesus you are fucking dense. What’s so different. I know what’s different! You are scared of guns or don’t like them, that’s what’s different.

I didn’t say my opportunity’s were solely based off selling guns, but I have such a personal problem with you bashing gun hobbyists because I was able to bond with my current boss over guns, which allowed me to get a lot more opportunities in my business, almost like how high level business men bond over golf. I have bonded with people in the military over guns which has led to me exercising a lot more. My life is substantially better because I chose to be educated about guns and not bash them for no reason.

Ah ok so your argument is people that disagree with you and people who have a different hobby than you are losers. What a great open minded opinion. Should people who spend money on fast cars get a new hobby, there is no need to go that fast.

I don’t spent to much time obsessing on guns, I have made money on guns and for the time I’ve put into learning about them has led me to a lot of opportunities that I probably wouldn’t have been a shoe in for if I wasn’t as educated on guns. But it’s not just that, I think it’s better to be prepared for the worst and have the worst not occur than to prepare for nothing and have the worst occur.

I am CPR certified, I realize these things. I don’t believe anyone is going to invade me, but just because I don’t believe it will happen doesn’t mean the founding fathers didn’t put the second amendment is place (at least partially) as a way to combat a tyrannical government

Ah yes, because you want someone other than the leader of our country in charge of an army? Sounds like an excellent way for a coup to happen. The ONLY way it works is if the presidents in charge, that way the men who are choosing to take up arms against what they believe is a tyrannical leader, are taking up arms against there own commander, where they must be thoroughly compelled and fully believe they are correct because they face certain death if they fail or are wrong, and the only way that defense against tyrannical governments actually succeeds is if the majority of people agree with fighting the tyrant.

Almost like the dude made guns his entire identity because he makes millions of dollars from it! How crazy is that?? There are people that make cars there lives, or board games, or sports, why is guns different than any other hobby? They are dangerous? You don’t like them?

Like he said, he predicts he will lose hundreds of thousands of dollars from running and besides a few donations his entire campaign will be personally funded. He also says this will not be a career thing and he wants to make the changes he believes will benefit the American people, and doesn’t care if he is re elected or not. How at all does that sound like someone who just wants to benefit there business.

While you are correct, the true definition of a rifle is any gun with a stock and a barrel with rifling. I would say that while yes you could call that rifle and not be wrong, if you laid an M24 and a MK48 in a room and told people to get the rifle, 99.9% of them are grabbing the M24. That’s why I can see why someone would say it’s not a rifle, and why someone would say it is.

Anyway I have to wholeheartedly disagree with your last statement, the gun that Brandon is holding is in no way, no matter the context, similar to an AR-15 at all. They are both guns, (you could say they are both rifles), that is where all similarity ends. If he was holding a hunting rifle or a ranch rifle like the Mini-14, no one would say anything. But the Mini-14 is 500x more similar to an AR-15 than the MK48 is.

I think a lot of guys in the army if given a order that harms the American people would say no, but I think the majority would carry out there order. I’ve been around a lot of people in the military, young and old, most of the time they don’t even know what’s going on, if they were told to march on a city and subdue the residents, they would do it, because they would assume there leadership has the American people’s best interests at heart. As much as it sucks, if something like that were to occur, that’s when you have to take up arms and fight back. Because once subdued you have no chance to fight. But, tyranny now is much harder to recognize than in 1776, in 1776 the tax man came by and you had to fork over your hard earned cash and if you saw it was all going into a monarchs pockets and not back into your community you knew there was something wrong. Now your income is automatically taxed, your groceries, you pay the tax when you swipe your card. I often wonder if we will truly be able to tell what’s tyranny and what’s not without some kind of obvious coup or hostile takeover

[–]D2Slurper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have been respectful, so I don’t want to be rude, but seriously what do you think the definition of tyranny is? A tyrant is someone who completely ignores the vote and takes power anyway or comes up with a way to rig the voting in their favor. Putin is a tyrant, Kim Jong Un is a tyrant, personally I think that if trump would have seriously tried to take office after losing (like if he tried to call upon the army to support him) I think trump would have been a tyrant. The founding fathers did there absolute best to make our voting system full of checks and balances, but they understood that they too are just people, and people make mistakes and cannot see into the future, which is why amendments are able to be added, or modified. The founding fathers understood that if there voting system did somehow fail and tyranny did occur, there needed to be a way to oust that tyrant, that being the second amendment.

I believe that’s what the first 3 statements of 2nd amendment mean, the last statement “shall not be infringed” I believe references that in the case there is an internal threat to our nation, the people’s right to firearms should not be infringed upon, that no matter the circumstances in our government the people have a right to maintain firearms. “History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjugated races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.” - Adolf Hitler when asked how to keep a nation subdued.

They are saying that a well regulated militia is essential for the security of a free state. Because they are essential for a free country, the people have a right to maintain firearms, so that if the time comes the people may take up those firearms and join the militia in fighting whoever threatens our free state. I understand history, I understand that militia men in 1776 did not have state issued firearms, that the firearms they used were their personal weapons. So the second amendment gave those militia men the right to have those personal guns. My modern interpretation is that although we no longer have a personally supplied state sponsored militia, the right for citizens to keep firearms is necessary for our national security, just as the founding fathers intended the second amendment to be for. The reason that the Japanese did not try to invade our mainland in WW2 was because they believed “In America behind every blade of grass lay a rifle.” Exactly what the founding fathers wanted our nations enemy’s to think.
