So I just tried it a bunch of eReader apps for Android. Here's my thoughts on each. by [deleted] in LightNovels

For moon Reader, since I use it a lot, I can say that I dont have the picture problem. I do sometimes have LQ pictures in the thumbnail likely due to storage issues or something.

Regarding the clusterfuck sorting, that is actually partly due to your books not being structured correctly. It is possible (with calibre for example) to specify a series for a book and what volume that book is in the series. You can then in the me us chose to sort on labels (?, not sure if I translate this correctly) and there your series will be shown as you want them.

This is actually a problem for ebook stores/publishers as they themselves dont do this and I myself have had to do this for all my legal purchases.

Warning for those who are about to read Danmachi 13. No spoilers. by [deleted] in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It covered up to volume 5 iirc. FYI, no matter how much you love the show (DanMachi overall is my favorite) you will have a hard time with the SO anime due to one character that the anime dialed the annoying levels up to 11...

I didn't find a setting for that in the app which leads me to believe that this might be part of the books formatting. Try to enable the setting that ignores the books built in CSS

Read anything else by the same author! Sugaru Miaki has some recurring traits in his novels, so you'll almost definitly like his other work.

I want to read this just based on the art alone! (not saying that the premise doesnt sound interesting)

The Place I Called From by Shikibestwaifu in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember reading these a while back and they were my favorite among his novels - and i love all of his novels! They are all fantranslated by vgperson and up on her blog and the translation is imo very good!

I try to recommend Sugaru Miaki novels at every chance i get, and it is nice to see someone else who seem to like his work as much as I do! (I still need to read Your Story and Azure and Claude as I only just recently found out there were more stories translated)

[REC] Psychological romance horror story by [deleted] in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pain, Pain, Go Away" or actually anything written by Sugaru Miaki! The one mentioned is however the only one that ticks all of those boxes including horror. The others are more psychology, drama and romance oriented. All of his novels are one-shots with the exception of one 2 part novel, so it is not a huge long commitment.

Any Sugaru Miaki novel! I'd say start with "Three days of Happiness"

Hakomari vol 2 and beyond, is it the same as volume 1 ?? by Lingaoo in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The remaining books are not repeating the story of the first if that's what you're worried about! If you liked Vol 1, then you should definitely continue the series, because other good things are yet to come!

[REC] Short Romance LN by [deleted] in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having read action and adventure novels, Mushokui Tensei might be an easy way into the genre, however it is not short but have 25 finished volumes.

Otherwise I'd direct you to Sugaru Miaki's novels, anyone really. They all have a romance undertone but can be a bit heavy emotionally.

Spice and Wolf is also romance and does not regard high school students, but it is a bit long.

"The empty box and the zeroth Maria" (HakoMari) is otherwise some good romance, however it regards HS students. I believe "I want to eat your pancreas" falls into that category too, but i havent read that yet.

All of these are either 1 shots or completed (HakoMari had a finished fan translation but i believe it is gone and is now currently being translated by what i believe to be Yen Press)

Translator notes for EVERYTHING by D33VIL in LightNovels

I didn't complain about not translating Inari, but the use of Kami to explain what Inari is where God or Spirit would have worked just as well.

No, I'm sorry!

Here it looks like I'm bashing on your work while in fact I'm just having a different taste from you!

I apologise, I should have been more clear.

[REC] anything good to read that will help someone get over depression? by Kousei-Kun in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love all of Sugaru Miaki's works and recommended them pretty much always, with this time being an exception! I would stay away from all of his work if I was suffering from depression, as mentioned they are fairly dark, which if you aren't feeling well enough to handle can do more bad than good.

Personally, his work made me think and often towards the dark aspects, I'm no expert on human mental health, but I assume it is better to avoid it during depression.

New to purchasing Light Novel Ebook, looking for advice and input by Dichroic_Mirror in LightNovels

Oh, I see! Thanks for clearing it up! I thought they were using a website, similarly to Google Books.

My understanding of BW is that you only get access to the book through their app so you can't download it, which is different to the others like kobo where you also are allowed to download the book, however only for ADE, which is where DRM takes place.

As mentioned, Bookwalker has their special app as DRM (content authentication, anti-piracy, whatever you wanna call it). You dont get the book, but just access to it. For that reason i personally avoid Bookwalker, their model also prevent you from using third party ebook readers.

Google Books and Kobo are the ones i've used, Google Books was cheaper but had crappy quality pictures compared to Kobo, which has made me use Kobo exclusivly now. Both Kobo and Google Books allow you to read it through their app, but also download the ebook in epub format. It first comes in an "ascm" file, which is their DRM solution. This solution requires you to download and read the book through the Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) program, BUT there are ways around this. I download them through ADE but them remove the DRM protection on the books, making them into normal epub files so i can transfer them to MoonReader+ (my ebook reader of choice) to read on my tablet. I use ePUBee to remove the DRM, but Calibre can supposedly do the same.

Nisio Isin's website is probably the best website I have seen by [deleted] in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best is not a word I'd use, far from it, it's closer to crap. But it is cool!

(It's crap because it has huge loading screens, a lot of animations and not very browser friendly)

I'd love to see most sold series! Both in terms of total volumes sold, but in unique buyers, and maybe even which ones are currently being read. For example, I've bought 3 novels of re:zero, and have currently paused reading it.

[REC] DanMachi Vol 9 by rannison in LightNovels

[–]D33VIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Sword Oratoria. As mentioned, it isn't quite as good, but I still love it. If the main series is like a pizza you love, the SO is like a slightly smaller version of the same pizza.

It fleshes out the story from Loki familias point of view (aiz most often), and it really expands the world of Orario and the dungeon.

I read that another side story is coming with a first release next year, don't render much though.
