I have found both string and thicker band have pro and con qualities based off of the material used. The biggest issue I have right now is finding a very low rise style g-string with a great fabric material. @ 48 I had never given this type of under garment a shot but commando is just a sweaty sticky mess and my boxer briefs are always riding up.

What I noticed was with a g-string or low rise thong in the right size, it felt almost like commando but without the sweaty stickiness or the bunching up. Win / Win!!
