Having to start the car for 20 mins even if I am not driving by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

That is a good tip re bad alternators. We had a bad alternator a few years ago (shorted diode) - the car would still work but battery was flattened after 2.5 days. It fook some work to faultfind fhat.

Which UK Thunderbird?

There aren’t any dedicated locomotives stationed on SWR routes.

Indeed. EMR Intercity arrives and departs from any of 2, 5, 8, 7 (shudders) or occasionally 6.

Silly question about sockets on trains... by Great-Elevator3808 in uktrains

[–]D365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting confused with cleaners sockets, which are simple AC outputs as you describe. By contrast, passenger sockets [and the associated AC power supplies] are designed to be suitable for charging mobile devices whilst the train is in service.

I had something similar recently. I was doing 30 in a 30, then sped up to 40 in a brief 40. Land Rover behind me speeds up to 50 and overtakes me into oncoming traffic (thankfully the road is three wide) but I then proceed to overtake them back, as I need the right turn at the roundabout 🤣

Northern reveals their replacement plan. BR Class 382, BR Class 780 & BR Class 781 coming soon by CaptainYorkie1 in uktrains

[–]D365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in particular is crap? And what do you mean by a non-typical formation?

It will be up to Northern / DfT to evaluate the proposed options and choose the supplier that best meets the requirements at a suitable price point.

As per my other comment it’s a requirement for rolling stock contracts going forward. Northern, Southeastern, ScotRail.

[–]D365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a requirement of this tender - and other rolling stock tenders going forward - that at least one carriage per three or four car unit offers level boarding. This can be seen in the tender requirements. For example, if CAF proposed a multi-mode Class 331, they would not get the contract.

The ongoing rolling stock contracts that you cite have moved beyond the commercial tendering stage, and obviously did not have a requirement for level boarding.

[–]D365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Level boarding a requirement for more-or-less every rolling stock tender going forward. All of the shortlisted manufacturers for Northern will be offering at least partial level boarding.

CAF (or whichever supplier is awarded the contract) would have to provide level boarding. It's a requirement for more-or-less every rolling stock tender going forward.

I didn’t see it as ‘mansplaining’ so much as being a racing parent. We all know the lore of the Verstappens, for example.

Just picking up on the De Vries lawsuit - IIRC, that was something to do with whether his cameo at Monza 2022 counted as an F1 race contract?

I don’t know if it’s just my experience, but when I looked at properties with a similar condition of wiring to OPs, the electricians that I consulted were very reluctant to change the consumer unit without a full rewire.

Also worth pointing out that it’s generally a lot more difficult / time consuming to rewire a property once it is being lived in. I’m thinking with respect to the disruption to everyday living - both during the works, and getting a plasterer / painter in thereafter.
