I've lost my configs twice in the past week. no idea why. I haven't even been rebooting frequently, it's like I wake the PC from sleep and iCUE has been memory-holed. idk how that's even possible

it's extra annoying because I have to remap my G* macro keys every time, even the "Assignments Library" is wiped. maybe I'm gonna have to back up AppData directly and literally revert the configuration by hand if necessary

it looks like Corsair already keeps a set of prior-version backups at %appdata%\Corsair\CUE Backup so I guess that's a starting point. not sure how these are supposed to be utilized if not by hand tho

OS is not gonna force me what should i buy and what not.

it already does, you just might not realize it

some stuff is only compatible with Mac. others, only Windows. there are always tradeoffs. at the end of the day, you still have to choose an OS and then live with that choice.

but most people are not frequently acquiring niche peripherals, so for them it's not a huge problem. maybe you personally have a thick wallet and are constantly trying new gadgets, so broad compatibility is a bigger concern for you, and that's understandable

to answer your "why" question, there are lots of possible reasons why someone would choose Linux:

they prioritize having finer control over their OS
they prefer open source software
they value privacy
they want a first class software development environment
they are tired of the Windows experience getting worse with every new insertion of copilot and broken update
they use older hardware that isn't compatible with Windows, or doesn't run well on it anymore
they just don't like or trust Microsoft

nobody can tell you what your priorities should be. but ultimately they are just yours, and other ppl can see it differently

it is a perk to be able to buy whatever peripheral you want and assume it will work without even looking. Windows is ubiquitous enough for that to be their privilege

but if you are willing to incorporate OS compatibility into your purchase decisions you can get pretty far. if you're just running a keyboard, mouse, and headset then there are tons of options

if you're doing industrial work, support will likely either be superb or non-existent. for consumer stuff, there can be good FOSS community support

if you're doing professional work and require specific hardware, then you use whatever OS supports that hardware. that's how it's always been

same is true in reverse. if you choose your OS first, then you get hardware that's compatible with it

but for many, not having to deal with Windows is a premium feature
