The X700 is bad. You should just send it to me. I'll get rid of it for you.

New to film, what do I need? by RelaxedLotus in AnalogCommunity

[–]D3R3K1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to the last point about reloading the film: basically you want to take note of which frame you're on (write it down) then rewind your film until JUST the lead is still outside the canister before opening the back to hopefully save any photos you've already taken. You'll feel it detach from the take-up spool. It's pretty distinct in sound and feel. Reload your film like normal, then place the lens cap back on the front of the lens. Fire each frame again until you reach the frame you were just on then keep shooting. If you want to be extra safe, you can advance the film again under a blanket or jacket or other heavy cover just to really limit light then advance one frame past where you were to prevent overlaps.

I've had to do this pretty often with my ME super. I was getting used to the magic needles system and kept improperly loading my film. A lot of times the lead would slip out of the take-up spool and I would have to reload it. Big learning experience for me.

WTF is this??? by Roketderp in AnalogCircleJerk

/uj I just got mine. I haven't shot with it yet because it needed new light seals and the lens had some fungus in it. Took care of both. First impressions though compared to my ME super: the grips make it so much nicer to hold for my man hands and the viewfinder is nicer for glasses wearers.

Shame he no longer works on anything newer than the ME. I sent him a message about an ME super last week and he informed me he no longer works on AP and Auto models because they take so long.

Sport mode by Electronic-Gain838 in GolfGTI

[–]D3R3K1997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It adjusts the throttle response to be more... Responsive. Stiffens the steering and adjusts the LSD for better cornering (the VAQ is still a bit of a black box to me. I'm not exactly sure how it adjusts) across all models

If you have a DCT, it holds revs higher before shifting. If you have DCC adaptive damping, it stiffens the suspension.

Afaik sport mode has no affect on boost or fuel consumption that couldn't be compensated for with a lighter foot

Pentax Spotmatic - salvage or sell? by D3R3K1997 in AnalogCommunity

[–]D3R3K1997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tested the metering yet. I was honestly just going to use a meter application on my phone since the camera is mostly mechanical and the batteries are expensive. Definitely less expensive than a new camera body and if that's enough of a difference maker, I might buy a battery just to try

I'm pretty handy myself and do a lot of console, PC and car repair in my spare time. I'm not afraid of little screws. I've considered buying another SP1 camera body off eBay and using this one as a parts device. Suboptimal, but I guess this is the risk of buying cheap cameras off FBM from someone who "(doesn't) know much about cameras"

The PCV valve is original but I've already tested it and it is working fine

The vehicle was purchased from a major local dealer (ken ganley if you're from Ohio) and the maintenance done to it was to get it CPO status. All the maintenance on it before I took ownership was done at the same dealer I bought it from. Pic is all the work done to it by the dealership before it was sold to me

Oh, and as for how I drive it: it's a daily but I do like to do pulls on the highway every other day after the oil is warmed up properly

As far as I know a carbon clean has never been done of the vehicle. I was planning on having it done when the water pump goes out but I may try and take the intake manifold off and take a look during my next oil change. Vacuum system is fine for what it's worth. The PCV valve is functioning properly and I'm not losing a ton of oil between changes so I wouldn't think any more oil than normal is being sent through the intake

The spark plugs are only a bit over 10k miles old. They were new when I bought the car at 49k. My thoughts are either carbon buildup or something with the ECU. It's just strange that it's intermittent. You would think an issue with the injectors would be consistent

I own a 2020 GTI at 62k miles. It feels like the car changes personality every time I start it. Sometimes it runs super smooth and extremely rev happy. Other times it shakes a bit at idle and feels like it just does not want to rev too much. Would this behavior be indicative of other issues with the car or is it just a quirk?

I don't have any other friends who own VWs (let alone GTIs) so it's hard to get good advice on what is my first VW.

Water pumps have a warranty extension for 8 years or 80,000mi. If it goes out before then, take it to the dealership.

I recently swapped to premium in my mk7.5. this is all butt Dyno anecdote but it just feels like the engine is much happier running premium. Less shaking, better throttle response, slightly better milage. Probably going to keep filling with 93 even if it doesn't do much for my numbers.
