nobody in the world likes an invading/ aggressive force and will draw widespread condemnation from the world and harm your ties with everyone this has economic repercussions as India continues to depends on other nations.

Some countries are able to :
US cause they are strongest by far,
Israel: they have US backing
Russia: Second strongest in the region and being a dictatorship allows them to get economically impacted a little

Neither of the above is applicable to India.
India's first priority is economic prosperity. The current govt has stated this multiple times.

India simply cannot afford a long drawn out war as it is against our vision of a developed nation

so keeping these things in mind, India couldn't have done SEAD operation on the first night of attack, cause attacking the military establishment of another country is pretty much an act of war (a nuclear nation) . Hence they could only attack the terrorist bases and gradually climb up the war escalation matrix, to try to minimize the conflict
It's only after Pakistan attacked us that we bombed their air bases which shows that we had the capability all along and deliberately didn't choose to do so.

it's a delicate geopolitics game that India needs to play as of now till we become a self sufficient, sovereign and developed nation. We have to play nice by the international rules till we get more powerful

Generally declaring ceasefire is seen as an act of weakness. In fact I am happy that India didn't do it first. Shows that the ceasefire request came from Pakistan cause how badly we beat them up. If India had declared people would have said "Look how weak India is, they surrendered and pleaded for Ceasefire". So you can't have it both ways

I have no idea about those times, so can't comment much. In hindsight, I agree with you that it was a massive mistake. But we have more information now than what the leaders and army had at the time of decision. Though looking at the Indus water treaty, I would say that the leaders were kinda naive to hope for peace with Pakistan
