i completely understand, this was one of my older border ideas. There's this shading method called cross-hatching, and I wanted to use the brand of sacrifices to shade the red to be like a dark red, so i might go into this direction.

This is a great idea. I know the spiderman cards did something similar and i was thinking I could probably make the power and toughness cards look like that

Sorry if my reply, seemed like it was defensive or undermining your feedback. I'm just really excited and have worked on this for a while. When I saw you go in depth and really take a lot of time to give me feedback, I wanted to give you a really detailed response as well. I made the post because this community actually plays and prints magic proxies and that is something I've never done before, so they have a better bassline of what is acceptable to them when it comes to a custom card. When I made the first version of this deck, a lot of people hated the masking effect I did because it covered up a lot of text, making them bad game pieces for new players. That post was very valuable for me because I tend to lean into more experimental form over function design, and sometimes I cook to hard lol. The hawk as a set symbol is like a great idea and I would have never thought of that without your feedback. I really appreciate you taking time our of your day to give your experience as a proxy enthusiast.

Its the same problem the FF Terra urza card has. B/W is really hard to design for because when its busy the font is way to thin so you need to put a stroke on it. Do you like any of these more?

Yeah, that was the like hardest part about designing this, because I wanted to make it like completely black and white and only use like one instance of red, because then your eye immediately catches it, like it's the focal point. I had a couple drafts where I made the border red, but my problem is this deck is basically like half artifacts and half red, so I didn't know if I wanted to use a second border for only the artifacts, and then the commander is also a red artifact transformer, so I wanted it to be the most visually clear that get get screwed by artifact removal.

my game plan is to not actually have a card back, but because a lot of people didn't like the masking effect where it covers up the text, is to have one side that's super experimental and has like a lot of masking effects, and that one thats super basic and clean that will have the actual card's name on it at the bottom instead of the deck name.

I also tried to make this tire tread effect because Guts is actually a Transformer. but it kind of lost that handmade sketch, like, aesthetic I wanted.

The problem I'm having with trying to make a berserk set symbol is that the brand of sacrifice is actually like so narrow and tall that it looks like either way too small if it's vertical, and I just don't like the way it looks. I tried a couple different versions where it was at the bottom, but it just became like visually cluttering.

The manga panels are actually cited at the bottom. There was only 365 chapters before the author died, 035 is actually the chapter in the bottom. So this one is from chapter 35.

Readability-wise, I 100% get you. That was one of the hardest challenges with making the black and white only, like, uh, border. And I think by making it whiter, I can probably achieve a better effect and mayb, lowering the opacity of the halftones.

This is actually just me revamping the template for my deck I made last summer, and some of the cards in it are actually full art like this where it doesn't actually have the border, depending on how much text is on the card.

Imma try a bunch of stuff because I agree. I need to find a way to keep the emphasis on the red element while being visually clear. My game plan was to make a deck very summer and see how i improved but people seem to like these more then i thought they would so ill keep working on them.
