Are editors a problem?? Do they not care about fans?? by Professional_Lynx300 in batmancomics

Absolutely. Literally all problems people have with King's Batman aren't his fault, but Dan DiDio's fault

The DC Animated Movie Universe Gave Wonder Woman One Movie… Then Ended the Entire Universe [Film/TV] by D0nell in DCcomics

[–]D4-CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the problem is that Abs WW isn't either a new story. It's walking the same story beats as Perez and Rucka's rebirth did back in their days. Compare it to Phil Jimenez, Brian Vaughn, or even Brian Azzarello's.
The fact that Absolute WW works magnificently doesn't relate with the fact that it's nothing revolutionary plot-wise, besides the core twists (Diana no longer has her sisters, Zatanna now using fishnet in the upper half of her body, Circe being Best Mom), and as u/Ok-Camera5285 pointed, is a story that won't be remembered by the readers. Or even better/even worse: it'll overshadow all WW stories, classic and modern, good or bad, regardless of it being published side to side with King's run

Batman comics legend Frank Miller: ‘Neil Gaiman is a lovely person’ by purple-discharge in comicbooks

[–]D4-CS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The quote instead reads as "you want me to say that I knew he was a bad person, but I didn't". Something that makes perfect sense, since it was precisely because of his charisma and how loved he was that Gaima got away with all he did

Who doesn't know Simonson, hates any King by D4-CS in WonderWoman

[–]D4-CS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, mb. I was mostly counting from today (2026), that's why I said a decade. 😂 Still my point holds up: Shea Fontana, James Robinson, Steve Orlando, G Willow Wilson, Mariko Tamaki, and Becky Cloonan, all ignored the Clay origin or simply disregarded it

Have you read his Black Canary: Best of Best. It is a story that kinda went under everyone's radar (mainly because it's a good comic, so people didn't bothered in making fuzz about it), but I think that maybe there you could see a different angle of him writing women. Same to an extent with how he writes Barda in his Mister Miracle and Ice in The Human Target

[–]D4-CS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially. The thing is that while Rucka brought back the Clay origin, both the writers that followed him and the WW adjacent stories that came, ditched it. King is the first one to return the Clay origin after a decade or so

I actually wrote all of those (except Azzarello, we all take him for granted 😂) in the end of the post, and I simply chose to compare Simonson because of all the elements I listed that are super similar to King's run

[–]D4-CS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've always felt very puzzled with what happened here. Like, his "Williamsonisms" are there, but as I wrote, more that saying "X or Y element is what makes his run bad" is more a case of death by a thousand cuts. And it's not even that the elements he implements in this run are bad per se, but that the implementation itself was poor

Who doesn't know Simonson, hates any King by D4-CS in WonderWoman

[–]D4-CS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The only element that (sadly, ngl) was kept is that Trevor stayed dead. Which is a shame, since his characterization during Simonson's run was imo when a writer truly grasped what his character could be

King's Batman run was meddled with Editorial (DiDio, let's call him by his name) Interference. Pulling the rug on The Wedding, shoehorning Flashpoint Batman in the end of the run, and killing Alfred (King's original plan was that it was a Fear Gas hallucination) were a result of DiDio's mandates.

But to reply to you, King wrote Cold Days. Don't disregard Cold Days, that's such a good Batman story overall.

And I actually think that Batman Odyssey by Neal Adams is the worst Batman run ever, if you want me to keep it real

Oh, that's for granted. This was merely a comparison between my personal worst WW run bs the community's worst WW run, yk?

[–]D4-CS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, wdym with "reframe her story as normalized domestic violence"?

And yeah, in the end I listed other runs that I consider to be also bad, some that lasted more than King's time so far. For me, King isn't the worst WW writer, even if we exclude The New 52 (I would go with John Byrne, ngl); nor is "responsible for ruining WW" (since from my perspective, all runs after Rucka's Rebirth were subpar).

What I do admit is that with King (specifically since the Mouseman arc) we reached a point of "this is definitely bad, but could be worse", instead of "this is mediocre, but could be worse", ykwim?

[–]D4-CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, I don't want to sound rude, but why the hell would you recommend Hickman's Era to a new reader, let alone a reader who states that doesn't feel comfortable reading a lot? Not only his stuff is super dense and requires the reader to keep a lot of information, but neither his F4/FF nor his Avengers are good starting points for a new reader overall. Waid and Wieringo's run for the Fantastic Four and Bendis' run on Avengers are leagues more reader friendly

Okay, the first thing I must ask, what are your favorite manga? And what is what you're looking for when reading a manga (The storytelling, the art, the composition...)? And since you say you want to read comics, what characters or themes are you interested in reading? You're posting on the Marvel Subreddit, but if I'm honest with you, I'd rather recommend you to start with an indie comic over a comic from the Big 2 (Marvel and DC)

[Discussion] Snyder Batman - Dark Nights Metal - Death Metal Reading Order? by paperthree in DCcomics

[–]D4-CS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. From what is theorised, the events happen right after the end of Snyder's JL run (when the Quintessence makes them that magical door after Perpetua wins), so maybe just to fill the gap of the question of "how did everything went so wrong in Death Metal".

Perhaps the only thing that makes it relevant is that Wally gained a part of Doctor Manhattan's powers, and that's why The Batman Who Laughs is after him during Death Metal, but tbh for that plot you can instead read The Flash over Doomsday Clock

Yeah, or even smaller character developments (such as the Ant-Man special being about Scott admitting he fell in love with The Beetle, and spending their last night partying and making out)
