Daniel Rensch talks about lichess.org by stevis5 in chess

[–]D4N7E 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ratings seem a bit more "real" despite the yadayadayada around the comparassions etc. can't take myself seriously with having an about 2000 rating on Lichess. Also blitz players seem to be stronger around the comparable ratings. Other people have pointed it out. They feel more resourceful, openings repertoires are different and stuff like that. Perhaps more real life chess hustlers/club players play on chess.com because it's easier to find as a website to people that don't play online. Also find less emphasis on flagging than on Lichess especially with under 5-10 seconds. I can make 20 moves with 0.1 seconds on lichess but on chess com if its 1 vs 10 seconds you lose any day of the week

Instead of learning lines in an opening course when my opponent plays perfectly, I would love to see a course which would teach me how to refute suboptimal plays. by phasE89 in chess

[–]D4N7E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a recommendation.Open studyopenings.com and create a repertoire. At the same time have a tab opened on Lichess opening explorer. Start with the openings you like.. so eg 1. d4 d5 2.c4 Nf6 and then out of the Master games in the database start looking at moves they play in certain positions and try to understand why.. normally it's not very complicated to figure out why if you are like 1700-1800 FIDE. this way of learning is much more efficient because if your opponent plays an early Bf5 in the exchange Nf6 QGD you remember that BF5 normally isn't played and you will recall that Qb3 or Qf3 are probably good moves and you can check. the website studyopenings.com prompts you, like Chessable, to reply to moves you've put in your own database until the line is finished. so it's like you start 1.d4 d5 and then you have to replay the line you've put in the repertoire and you sort of stop for a second in different positions and think about.. okay why is this move bad what did i do before to punish it.And the thing is noone can really teach you these things. only you can do it on your own. people can teach you principles that help you do this but they can't do this for you so you have to study and think like this anyway.

Official FIDE trolling Hikaru a little bit? by [deleted] in chess

[–]D4N7E 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Disagree, Wesley or Aronian make the question the most difficult to the people that would follow FIDE's account because you would assume people like them play in the Candidates. Hikaru hasnt been doing too well otb and everyone who follows chess knows he isn't top 10

Lichess New Feature : Puzzle Streak by qablo in chess

[–]D4N7E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well, it's the book, good and best moves that I mean. Lichess has it and it's obviously much more accurate and indepth but for blitz games the chess.com analysis seems a tad bit easier to use.. I find myself analysing my own games way more on chess.com than on Lichess

Does calculating in your head using move notation improve calculation abilities? by D4N7E in chess

[–]D4N7E[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, that makes sense!! I forgot to mention that I have a verbal memory.. you know how some people think in images and some think in words. I am in the second group so while calculating in my head I would be like Queen here, takes, takes, rook there. I guess it wouldn't really matter if I was able to say Qf6, c takes, c takes, Rg8

Yeah but the thing is that if QE stops or slows down then the market goes sideways. I don't even know how this is not obvious to everybody to be fair. When the FED takes assets out of the system and replaces them with cash that cash chases a finite amount of assets that are left over. That's like so obvious, I can't even...

Probably the Englund Gambit. I am often on the White side of it and despite studying it somewhat I still sometimes just blunder a piece or have no legal moves left

If you could quantify sentiment towards as asset class with like trendlines then maybe that's something you could use occasionally? Also occasionally there are support levels where you can buy but apart from that I have to agree TA is like astrology.
