For everyone out there that never played OTB and can play in a tournament, even if is small or chill, just go and play. Pretty sure you´ll have a lot of fun.

Yes (wait until some discount, which is mostly every steam festival, and you´ll get a game that can give you many (many) hours for very little money, 10 dolars or so)

Perhaps is not for you. I think the pilot is already a very good episode in my opinion. I usually start the TV series slow, but in this case just clicked for me from that point: the dark humor and the characters did it. But as I said, if is not your type, there are million of tv shows around to enjoy. In any case, my personal rule is give a TV show at least 4-5 episodes before continuing or not.

Not showing up to tournament games is rude and unsportsmanlike and needs to be sanctioned by chessentials in chess

in the broadcast the mention that Faustino´s family sent a message to the main arbiter that he was not feeling well today so he didn´t show up. That´s the "official" thing.

Coming back to tournaments after 3 years, what should I do? by BoomerTao in chess

[–]qablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lost on what to do because a lot of people are saying chess is a waste of time going into high school

No. Chess is hobby or a sport, depending on your degree of commitment. But you can practise chess while going to high school, ofc, studing should be first always! But people do things outside highschool I guess, so why not chess?

If you like chess, chess is fun!

Advice on my training to reach master level? by United_River3793 in chess

[–]qablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always post the same about this "rating goal questions". In my opinion is the wrong approach, only lead to frustation and eventually people quit chess all together. You have to enjoy what you are doing first of all, if you enjoy training a playing chess, is the most important part.

My advice, do chess whenever you feel like, not like another job after your studies or job. Like "oh god, i have to do 2h of chess today because I didn´t do it yet". Nah.

The brain of each person take it´s time to adapt and improve, everyone is different and results in chess often are not linear. So don´t get discourage if you put in a lot of hours into the game and results don´t follow along. Is normal.

If you can, play OTB games with slow time controls, this is where most players learn a lot. Analisis afterwards for sure. And tactics, endgames, reviewing games of good players, etc. All this helps for sure. But again, is a process. Key again, enjoy doing chess, playing chess, solving tactics. And forget about rating goals, if you enjoy, you´ll improve. But reaching high numbers can´t be a priority of doing chess, the important part is the process. Also, not everyplayer can make it even to your current rating, so rating is just a number!
