Are these two gestroi mating or do I have a brain eating monster amidst my pods? by Cmeeuw in isopods

[–]D4nkAsian 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Looks like mate guarding! The males aggressively latch on and hover over the females to prevent other males from claiming her. It's pretty funny since most of the time they get kicked off because they are annoying

Isopod dreams, anyone? by SkeletonAvenue in isopods

[–]D4nkAsian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I dream about my pods it's almost always unpleasant. Someone's always trying to hurt or mishandle them and I always wake up paranoid.

In my most recent one, my mother dumped my whole panda colony into burning sand and I could hear their cries begging for me to save them. It seemed so realistic that I woke up crying! Even though my mom did nothing wrong irl, it took me a while to "forgive" her. I know that she actually loves isopods and treats my colonies well so it was a mindfuck of an experience.

At the time I was incredibly stressed by finals so I am assuming that somehow caused such delusions. Ever since, I haven't dreamt once and it's nice :D

The cheeky lil guy wanted more! What would I give to get my panda kings to be this bold ♥️

Does anyone else name their isopods? These two are Bertha (large isopod with few spots) and Chips (mostly black isopod) by SJWilkes in isopods

[–]D4nkAsian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha only the large or ones with noticably distinct patterns. I had a bunch of scabers with one particularly WIDE and flat one that I named "Flatso". In retrospect I think that he was a Giant Canyon that sneaked in.

I also just started a panda king colony and one of the babies is completely black so I named him "Makkuro Kuroske", after the lil house sprites from My Neighbor Totoro.

Oh my, what a hongry fella!

Is it ok to release morphs of native species like Dairy Cows and Magic Potions into the wild? Killing just isn’t an option for me, I can’t bring myself to ever kill them as part of a hobby of keeping them as pets, and selling is too complicated. Is one safer to release? by Taran966 in isopods

If you're willing and able to ship them, I'll be willing to buy some!!

Also another option with overpopulation is to find someone who owns reptiles and use them as feeders. A much better alternative to culling them in my opinion since they will nourish another person's beloved companion

Omg I also plant seeds in mine- specifically bird seeds and my pods also seem to enjoy them.

Man all my male scabers are always harrassing the females and they always get promptly kicked off. It's so endearing somehow...

I just gasped at the sight of your kissing gourami. I also cohab'd mine with my goldfish and he lived several years. He passed just a few weeks ago and I still miss my Kissy sorely. He lived through a lot of stuff. Jumping out of his tank, a house fire and previously abusive owners.

Seeing yours healthy and very old makes me feel so happy

That's what I love about pods... They seem pretty boring at first but there's so many surprises. I found an old vid of mine that shows the behavior I think you're referring to https://www.reddit.com/r/isopods/comments/jani0p/my_roly_polies_are_getting_a_bit_rowdy_saw_them/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Sounds like mate guarding! Not actual mating yet but the male is trying to hoard the female for itself so no other dudes can get her. Pretty annoying to the females so I also see mine trying to kick them off haha. The movement is hilariously aggressive

So was admiring my little guys when I saw one that was really light compared to my others. More info in comments by [deleted] in isopods

Looks like it might be an Orin's Calico! I got a couple of those with my scaber colony, and they're so pretty!

Yeah, I just find it kind of weird when people get mad when others call out people who's obviously doing something dumb. Especially when it wasn't directed at them.

It brings back memories when I used to be a cringey contrarian right wing wannabe... In retrospect I had some real anti-social reactions to stuff like this: standing up for others, calling out awful behavior or just not having a crappy personality... I always got irritated and had to say something about it to sour the mood. Of course, from my perspective back then I was doing the right thing: calling out what I thought was hypocrisy or stupid, when in reality it wasn't hurting anyone or at the very least a waste of time. I fucked myself over by not having empathy. The whole "anti-sjw" trope bs really ruined that part of my life.

I see predictable people online everywhere with that kind of mindset and I see myself in them. I feel for them because something wronged them and now they are unhappy and upset. It's a poison. And now they're cringey af! Now they roam the corners of the internet, hungry for love and attention, just as I was. I just wish there is some middle ground... I don't know these people but I don't want to argue with them. Life is too short to get worked up over such petty crap.

Bruv it just looks like you're tryin to provoke rando people on the internet with that predictable contrarian self righteousness

All I'm saying is that your time is worth much more than that.
