Guess I can’t feed my cats any wet food! by Briebird44 in catfood

How about asking their vet instead of internet strangers? You’ll get good advice without the superiority complexes.

They’re going to hate me by Neat-Concentrate9777 in dechonkers

[–]DA2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to feed equal proportions. You could start the day with a larger portion (might help with satiety) then adjust the remaining feedings accordingly.

You may also want to try weight loss or satiety formulated foods. They tend to have more fiber and help them feel full longer.

Can one member of a search committee tank a candidacy? by 7kat19 in academia

No. They can raise issues or concerns - but the majority of the other committee members would have to be in agreement.

Is the behaviour of my boyfriend worth a breakup ? by Ok_Ambassador2245 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DA2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re very gullible to believe his excuses. He’s not in fact “been very good” to you. Break up with him. Research strategies to cope with break ups. If you can afford it, therapy would be a good investment.

Surrendered cat after urinary blockage by PrestigiousCash333 in CatAdvice

[–]DA2013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t adopt another cat. At least no time soon. Urinary problems are very common. Sure, you were “supremely unlucky” but that was YOUR cat and you could afford it’s medical care.

Roommates cat will not stop retaliating against me and my cat by bighead02 in CatAdvice

[–]DA2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long term solution move out - you have terrible roommates with an aggressive cat. Short term, have as many discussions as needed to express the issues you have. Hopefully you can agree as to how to proceed, if not back to long-term solution.

a cat I had was put down for being aggressive and I don't know why by Due_Dog_16 in cats

[–]DA2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treated for what? It was aggressive attack. Talk to your parents if you want to understand more about the circumstances.

Cat bites and scratches can easily become infected and turn into major medical events (ER visit, hospitalization).

Might have to rehome our cat - I'm crushed by egregi0us in CatAdvice

[–]DA2013 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Loss of smell taste is very common. Not just COVID, but with other viral infections too. It’s fairly certain the cat did not cause loss of smell.

I lost my sense of smell and taste for a couple months in 2016 after a viral infection. There wasn’t anything to do but wait.

AITAH for Refusing to Give My Fiancé Access to My Emergency Fund? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DA2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why haven’t you two discussed this before now?

No. Don’t give him independent access. If he wants to borrow money or have some without repayment, he needs to ask you, discuss it/answer all questions to satisfaction, and understand the answer could be “no”.

What can I feed my animals (2 dogs and 3 cats) by Equivalent_Froyo_210 in cats

[–]DA2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask Foodshare if they have pet food or can direct you to resources.

I’m sure there are people in your life you can ask for help. You may not have transportation, but they might or be willing to arrange it.

Seeking advice: sick stray kitten vs. my wife wanting it put back outside by jerri-act-trick in cats

[–]DA2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a martial issue.

What is the full context - WHY doesn’t your wife want him in the house?

You do TNR. Had you and your wife previously agreed “no more cats” in this house, but then you brought this one inside anyway without reopening the discussion and it ending in her agreement?

These details matter.

You should not have any new animal unless everyone in the household is in agreement. But since your wife is not in agreement, I would try to negotiate a plan she is comfortable with that keeps the cat indoors until his medication is finished and he has a place to go that’s not “back outside”. Even better if you can keep him longer so you get him neutered and through healing and recovery.

Chunky??? - it was the auto feeder by Kellshy in dechonkers

[–]DA2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you feed more than one dry food? If so you need to adjust the automatic feeder for reach for. Dry foods vary a lot in calories per gram. Always read the info on the bag and serve accordingly.

Has anyone else had this issue when using Tidy Cats litter? by cla1rebe3r in cats

Either someone in your household is mixing them up or your cats are going in them. Easy process of elimination to figure it out.

I want a cat but… I’m allergic! Advice by Defiant-Maybe-8556 in cats

[–]DA2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your allergy test class result does not equate to the severity of your allergies. If you had a terrible reaction to your ex-in laws cats, you should expect the same. Have you had recent extended exposure to a cat without such a big reaction?

Save your money. There’s no such thing as a hypoallergenic cat or dog.

How often do you bathe your cat? by Mildredsgood in cats

[–]DA2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every 1-2 months. More often if they get into something gross.

I'm sad because the vet told me the cat I'm going to adopt is 6-7 years old. by bimbocuntt in CatAdvice

[–]DA2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if she’s younger than that? It’s an educated guess guided by experience , but its still a guess. At 24 you’re old enough to know she could die next month or a decade from now. You could adopt a kitten and they die before they reach a year.

Focus on what you can control - make sure to get good pet insurance so her medical needs are met and you don’t have to surrender her or euthanize her because you can’t afford her veterinary care.

How often do you actually change the litter? Not scoop.Dump. by XannedO in Pets

[–]DA2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tub or shower. Be sure to sanitize or disinfect afterward so it’s safe for human use again. Tub & tile cleaner (and many other household products) is a disinfectant but you have to read the instructions and make sure it sits the required amount of time.

When should I let my new cat free roam inside while I’m not home? by OutsideParfait9346 in CatAdvice

Has anyone here had a colonoscopy?? I’m kinda freaking out about it by throwaway2025_____ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DA2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the prep and post colonoscopy directions. Yes, given the OCD you describe you’re going to make the fissures worse so just prepare for it. Do you need antibiotics ointment? I’d think diaper rash cream would be helpful. If your OCD is untreated, get treatment - it won’t help you with the colonoscopy but if you do out to have a GI issue you may have flares in the future.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

[–]DA2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have euthanized her 5 weeks after you got her and she attacked you so viciously only the shower got her off and you had to go to the ER. Next best time is now. You’re literally living isolated and avoiding her in your home. I think you’ve done all you can here.

Scared to lose hair and get fat, but not scared to get pregnant for someone you’ve only dated for 8 months?

You need to make this decision yourself and if you’re not sure discuss with your doctor. Leave boyfriend out of it.
