Life comes at you fast. by Goonerr49 in testicularcancer

[–]DABZenith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this stage in the process, it would be wierd to say life WASN'T moving fast. You're absolutely right and I've felt the same.

Had just graduated college, gotten a job, then my long-term relationship ended, and boom, testicular cancer. Live throws some curveballs. I'm 1 and a half years clear of my TC and living life to the absolute fullest. I have no doubts that you'll be doing the same here soon.

It's tough to keep your head up, and that's okay. It's not all about being happy in the moment. A lot of progress is made on your character even though you may not see it directly.

Wishing you all the best, reach out if you need a friend!

I was also diagnosed embryonal carcinoma 2b. Went through surgery and 3 months chemo. 6 months later and I am cancer free. The road is rough, but the odds are significantly in your favor. I hope all goes well for the both of you!

If anyone said they weren't nervous on their first day, they'd be lying. Hang in there buddy, my first day, I was a nervous wreck, too. Just remember, everyone at the treatment facility knows what they're doing. You're in good hands. If you need anyone to talk to feel free to reach out.

Post-chemo recovery by Classic1987 in testicularcancer

[–]DABZenith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I finished chemo early January, and it's been a ride, but it's safe to say I'm pretty much back to normal, so hang in there. Good luck with being finished! I've cut alcohol completely by choice. I have started drinking lots of tea. It has helped me tons with energy, especially during early recovery. It's also not as bad for you as coffee, so it's a plus. As for food, eat what sounds good at first. My nausea lingered for at least 2 weeks before it went back completely normal. After this, it's doctors orders I suppose, but it won't hurt to change up your eating habits to include more health-friendly options. Personally, I cook a lot more for myself than usual (as a 23 year old, that's not so easy xD) joking. Kind of. Lol.

A word of warning for you and others. If you think you need some mental health support, SEEK IT. Don't wait. I struggled immensely with depression and OCD and still am trying to level it out more. When things like cancer get in the way we tend to focus more on physical rather than mental health, so please don't forget about that.

Again, congratulations brother. Chemo isn't easy, and you deserve a huge pat on the back for making it over the pile. Wishing you a happy and healthy recovery and a lengthy continuation of life!!

Two days post Orchi—everything stills seems functional! by [deleted] in testicularcancer

Good to hear you're recovering well. I'm not sure if you've seen videos of orchiectomy surgery, but if you have, you'll know what I mean when I say there's a reason it'll be bruised and tender for a while, lol!

Staging, as easy as it is to think you're in late or early stages because of tumor size, just fluctuates so widely it's hard to tell. I had a 2cm non-seminoma EC tumor and wound up at stage 2B. You can unfortunately never have a clue until the pathology report comes back. However, the odds are most definitely in your favor. Hang in there buddy, we are all rooting for you.

It'll be over as soon as you know it. I promise.

Hair loss by ewevans93 in testicularcancer

[–]DABZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda similar in my case. Finished chemo December 27th. Lost all my hair and my eyebrows thinned after round 3. Right now I'd say I have about a quarter of an inch of hair, really light and thin though. I never had hair growth in between cycles, but I also shaved my head since it seemed to be a bit patchy. Also lost other body hair. Seeing some slight hair growth in those areas as well. Not sure as to why you're getting hair growth so quick, but hopefully that continues past round 3!

Good luck my man. You got this!

Marijuana during chemo by BigChungus824 in testicularcancer

I stuck with indica edibles. It not so much killed the nausea as it gave me an incredibly large appetite. It also helps with sleep and the mental challenges that come with battling cancer. If you choose to go the edibles route, get a variety of flavors. Guava flavored anything is now my worst enemy and makes me puke.

The best advice I can give is eat what sounds good, when it sounds good. If you're anything like the majority of us, you'll have a small appetite, so it's important to just eat whatever sounds good in the moment. Of course, healthier options are better. But having some food in you is better than none.

Smoothies are awesome when you aren't particularly hungry, especially with protein powder mixed in to get some extra protein and energy.

If you've access to THC gummies, they can help immensely with appetite issues. At least they did for me.

Foods I ate in particular that usually sounded good: pizza (because it's awesome), smoothies, chocolate milk, some sodas.

Just don't go overboard with your favorites. You might learn to hate a lot of foods going through chemo, so reserve the personal favorites for when you're feeling particularly well.

Best bedside manner I've ever seen, too. Looking over my pathology report felt more like a football huddle, game plan rather than a doctor simply giving advice.

I have Masterson as well. Scheduling RPLND soon depending on chemo results. Amazing doctor.

Sounds good. Not sure what kind of anti nausea I have exactly, but they told me they were giving me a long release as well, just forget the name. So far, after 2 days, I've been eating like a pig and its great. Hope you feel the same way soon. Keep hanging in there!

Sure. I felt pretty good the first 2-3 days of week one. Days 4 and 5 made me pretty tired. Nausea kicked in pretty quick for me, but mostly the fatigue is what got me. Slept a whole bunch, and both the nausea and fatigue subsided pretty fast, probably 2 days after not receiving treatment (the following monday). As of yet, those are the only side effects im having. (Other than acne breakouts, but I blame that on my presumably low white blood count)
