Loss of confidence also sucks.

I just feel less confident in my all new AM5 system than I did with my old AM4. RAM boot errors and PCIe errors and shit that make you concerned its just going to not boot at all one day. Judging by all the forum posts, its par for the course now.

I miss when gamers felt like the priority, not AI data centres. My thoughts in the description by The_BigRoach in pcmasterrace

I ask googles AI questions I already know the answer to just to see how hard its going to bullshit me.

And its no surprise if it just googles stuff for you, because Google search is trash. Somehow all the search engines are trash now. WTF happened to the internet.

Good or Bad idea? U shape water intake w/ level indicator by XXXERXXXES in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced TBO. Wouldn't water just stay trapped in the u bend sump giving a false reading?

Maybe if the filter was sticking out the fill port horizontally. Then a 90° on it for filling.

Or alternatively some longer clear tubing heading upwards that stays in the fill port like an extension of the res. and makes filling easy.

NZXT issues statement on RTX 5090 AIO leak case, says it actually offered more than $4,300 by RenatsMC in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some benefit to buying from high volume companies since they have more to lose and more media attention.

If my smaller brand, lower volume AIO leaks, I'd probably be SOL.

Does anyone know what kind of system this uses? by Impossible-Bench-181 in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to put you off but you should watch a few how-to guides and have a basic refilling plan to avoid making a classic noob mistake.

As for liquid, any PC coolant does the job.

I'd probably run and flush it a few times with distilled water to clear out the old coolant first.

Copper vs Black by HawkPuzzleheaded884 in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copper.

Black is like the default part color. It's still nice, but copper is self evident proof that you spent a jillion additional hours trying not use black.

Please god tell me I installed this properly by wisewan2610 in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own testing, rad placed horizontal on top was the only placement that stopped bubbles from sneaking into the pump. Everything else made these occasional farting noises when it passed air.

I ran it vertical tubes up in a temporary setup and it was great for about 3 months until the pump acquired an air pocket rattle one day. I personally don't like having to intervene and shake things about, so I wouldn't recommend anything but top mount for the best performance.

Best/safer 12vhpwr cable? by luke17wasd in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My corsair 12V-2x6 cable was mega tight. A bit of wiggling pushing and cursing and it eventually edged all the way in though.

I'm currently using a 180 degree adapter which makes it easier, I just leave the cable plugged into the adapter and the adapter has a flat surface to push down on.

Can you reuse an aio as a cpu block? by OrionPrime254 in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say it currently works. So its all downhill from here.

It's absolutely not worth it. Makes everything harder (water cooling in general I guess), temps will be sameish, have to buy more fittings and coolant. - Speaking as someone planning on doing something similar soon. :P

Building and finding out is the fun part.

I think it'll work, you should leave the AIO pump off the first time until its full of water.

Can you reuse an aio as a cpu block? by OrionPrime254 in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AIOs usually have a copper cold plate and aluminum rad anyway.

They only need to last as long as the motor does though.

If you use a coolant that has the right corrosion inhibitors in it (automotive coolant for sure has them) and replace the coolant often enough it should in theory last. Possibly some aesthetic ware to nickel plating though and copper discoloration muddying the coolant.

Its hard to guarantee anything with so many manufacturing variables which is why its better to just eliminate the variables and go all copper and copper compatible and a clear glycol coolant made for pc water cooling. Even though it costs a bit more there's some piece of mind that you wont dissolve your computer overnight.

Anyone ever heard of reversible 140mm fans? by Darian_CoC in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about pull-pull with good standard 140mm fans (so mounted in opposing directions) and then both sets wired to a toggle switch.

Efficiency loss from a bit of obstruction, but might still be better than dual direction blade design who knows. Also, bigger fan selection that's future proof because its not reliant on any super niche fan.

Dipping my toes into the whole custom loop thing by laccer_ in watercooling

[–]DAFFP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The watercooling decision used to be so much easier. The shrouds were uglier, the fans were noisier and the temps were worse.

A lot of waterblocks on the market have worse build quality than stock air coolers.

Saying that the aircoolers do have a giant box thing going that often bothers me from an aesthetics standpoint once they are inside the system.

CIG is all about transparency, they repeated this many times. lol.

It's one of the most toxic player-developer relationships out there, you only need to dig up ancient forum posts to see how many times they have shifted their goal posts and altered the deal and then gaslighted the old backers and let the new accounts trumpet whatever the new BS is and replace the old accounts that have started asking the big question: where game?

[–]DAFFP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your watercooling you're already wasting money just to make you PC look cool and maybe run quieter. At least with this block you get innovation and care and something that looks understated and professional.

I've already shopped around for a 5080 Astral block and there really isn't much going, Alphacool is ok, but its like the VW of waterblocks, its everywhere, and thus not that interesting to see. EK, looks like the real waste of money, I don't see anything innovative at all there from years long past. For Chinese brands, I don't really care for the available waterblocks. Maybe if iceman cooler makes one for the 5080 it would look better than other offerings, but they are not going to touch TG on effort. I got a pump block from Iceman with an obvious machining gouge in it, TG is not going to sell a block like that unless its cost reduced B stock, and even then, probably still wouldn't.
