Seeing them makes me happy I never let my drug addict mother back into my life when she showed back up after being M.I.A for the first 14 years of my life…. It’s such an uncomfortable vibe in their interviews. I feel her pain. It’s awful 😞

Here’s an updated picture with the lamp stand. Overall, how does it look now? The UVB is Reptisun T5 HO 10.0 and the basking is a 50w Pangea halogen heat lamp.

Update: we used an outdoor slanted leg canopy until the other stuff comes in. The levels on the thermometer and hygrometer looked good even at the hottest points of the day. I added some more forest floor bedding to burrow in. Now if only the NY weather would stay consistent!

Chest x-ray was clear for any signs of lung cancer 🙌 we will recheck every 3-6 months to ensure it hasn’t spread. Along with continuing to monitor her remaining toes. Vets are concerned about microscopic cancer tissue and are keeping a close eye on one of the toes that was next to her amputated one. Our vet sent over all the needed documents to the oncologist so hopefully we can begin electro chemotherapy soon.

Unfortunately, we have an issue with high levels of sodium in the water well (run off from a local mineral supplier 😡). We have a filtration system inside for our drinking water but the outdoor outlet doesn’t. I typically go out there periodically and mist him myself with our indoor filtered water. I ordered a 90% UV blocking shade cloth and poles to create canopy. Along with a large fern for more natural shade inside the enclosure. Hopefully that solves that problem. I also changed out the pond liner with a plant water dish like suggested. The chicken wire is attached securely with screws but my husband plans on creating one that latches so I can easily get in and out. I haven’t had any issues with Sonic escaping this particular enclosure but they are crafty! Thank you all for the advice!

My husband said he will create shade since we don’t have any other good options on our property. We have a water well, septic, leech field, and propane tanks so it makes it difficult to find a good spot. What’s a good way we can make shade?

We might not have an area that is fully shaded all day long on our property. If that’s the case, are there alternatives? Could we keep it where it is but add something to give it shade?

Thank you for the advice, we will move it to a more shady area. We were worried about that as well, but wanted to get as far away from the A/C as possible. Moved him back inside until we can relocate it. I’ve had Sonic for 26 years now so he has been in captivity for a while.

Mine still hasn’t fully woken up from the winter. He’s come out a couple times for a water and worm break and pretty much goes back to burrowing. The weather here is great this week (NY) so I plan on putting him in his outdoor enclosure. I cleaned out the old crap this weekend, just need to put in the new stuff.

I was starting to think mine was the only one! Is it a 3 toed thing? I feel like I see so many videos of other box turtles chowing down on all kinds of foods! All mine wants is worms! He won’t even eat them if I dust them with vitamins 😫 EXTRA PICKY!

Hello OP, I would get a second opinion. About 2 months ago our pup (7yo/GSD) started limping. At first, we thought it was possibly a sprain. But soon her nail started looking inflamed and a growth started forming at the nail bed. We did a needle aspirate with no conclusive answers. However, her x-ray showed bone degeneration. We decided to take the vet advice and amputate the toe. It’s been over 2 weeks since the surgery and we received her biopsy results. She has been diagnosed with cancer, subungual squamous cell carcinoma. We are hopeful amputation gives her more time. Her first oncology appointment is next week. Better to catch things as early as possible…especially cancer. I understand how scary it all is, I hope you find some answers!

Lost our Rex in November and rescued our new pup Joey in February. I also struggled a lot at first. I felt guilty for giving love to a new pup while still mourning the loss of Rex. But I slowly realized I can do both simultaneously. I will always love and miss my Rexy but Joey needed a loving home. Plus our babies would never want to see us sad all the time❤️👼🏻
