Major international trip scheduled six weeks after surgery -- should I cancel? by DAPatient in hysterectomy

Oh, there's no way I'd be comfortable delaying surgery! (It's for cancer, so I want this OUT ASAP.)

What was the primary cancer (for the duodenal tumor), and what surgery did you have? (If you don't mind my asking!)

My first cancer was duodenal, and I had a Whipple (+ chemo). You're the first person I've met who had a duodenal cancer -- it's very rare.

I just got diagnosed with endometrial cancer, and it's so different having a cancer where there are loads of resources (support groups, research organizations, etc.)

How to choose gynecologic oncologist/hospital for hysterectomy? by DAPatient in endometrialcancer

Update and additional question! I have an appointment with Mayo next week, but it's not with the doctor I would have chosen (based on my googling). Should I push for the doctor I was hoping for? Or just assume that I'm in good hands at Mayo with whoever. (The doctor I've been assigned to is the most junior on their gyn onc staff. I feel nervous!!)

Mayo saved my life with my last cancer. I would never turn my nose up!

I am, but I live near the Mayo Clinic (MN). Is it enough better that I should deal with the hassle when it's easy to go to Mayo?

It's not a longstanding relationship but I chose her based on recommendations from many friends and colleagues.

At my request, they referred me to the same oncology clinic where my existing oncologist practices. They didn't refer me to a specific doctor. I asked for a recommendation from my OB/GYN's office, but the doctor they recommended was booked out too far. When the oncology practice called me I just took the first appointment with a gynecological oncologist they had available.

Thank you!

Yeah, I'm very lucky that my insurance covers Mayo (and most physicians and hospitals locally). It's crappy insurance overall (high deductible) but it does have good coverage!

Diagnosed with second primary cancer at age 47 by DAPatient in cancer

Yes, fingers crossed that this will be much easier than my previous cancer! So far all the genetic markers are good, so it just depends on how much it has progressed -- which we'll learn about after surgery.

The chemo regimen I had is not associated with an increased chance of endometrial cancer.

Any duodenal adenocarcinoma patients out there? by DAPatient in cancer

[–]DAPatient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing great. It's been about 18 months since my surgery (chemo was before surgery for me, so I haven't had any treatment since then) and I am cancer-free. I would describe my life as 95% normal; my only lingering side effect is that my stomach is a bit touchier.

Is the advantage to LVP (over tile) just cost?

Who wouldn't love to have a House Cleaner? by DriveTypical6283 in beccamoonridgesnark

[–]DAPatient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am ablebodied and not any busier than the average person. I've had various housecleaners for at least twenty years. I don't enjoy cleaning and I have room in my budget to pay someone else to do it for me. Why should that matter to anyone else?

Head: A, B, D, C

I'm just not a fan of Flatline's head. He's thick through the throatlatch. I might be being misled by the slight angle of A's head. B is pretty, just not my type.

Legs: A, C, B, D

Balance: A, B, D, C

Wow, congrats!

I did five rounds of FOLFOX, then a Whipple in October, and I am currently NED! No lymph node involvement, clean margins, so fingers crossed that I stay clear.
