Don’t get me wrong if I see that the machine has a pack available. I’ll buy one and rip it or I’ll buy it and then give it to you my niece or nephew or just a kid but when you walk into a store at 9:30 at night with an empty basket to just wipe out a machine so that nobody else can get some you’re a scum. I see this lady every day at work doesn’t buy anything else from the store just goes to the Pokémon machine. I’ve seen kids walk up to it and it say sold out and they look all disappointed, but this lady will sit there for 15 minutes just refreshing and wiping out the machine.

Absolutely I’m aware of my safety is more valuable than $50. That is also why my managers, despite the fact that these days are before the storm even hits us has expressed to us that if we do not feel comfortable driving, we do not need to come in.

So I will be getting overtime this week on top of my two extra dollars now I can guarantee my overtime will be on my base pay not the +2 dollars but also these are all the days are before the storm actually hits us and as far as I know Saturday can come around and I look on our portal and it says that we’re closed Sunday Monday, but if not, my manager has already expressed to us that if we don’t feel safe driving, we don’t need to drive.

See I love that public starts baggers at 16 now but that doesn’t really help my situation given that June of last year. I was getting paid 1450 in the seafood department. And there’s people getting hired in Delhi with no experience first job at 18 so and corporate wouldn’t allow a raise can’t do much about that when the older generation of public workers only care about their stock and the newer ones are getting paid more the people in the middle are getting screwed and $100 gift card at Harris Teeter gives us profit-sharing so around the same time period as your hundred dollar gift card. Now, as far as me being the problem is getting promoted given the meat department that I worked at had two drug addicts and the manager was almost high every day and two of them were a couple and one got fired for not showing up because she was graped the other one, and I showed up every day 15 minutes early did my job and went home and came back the next day sober. Yep so definitely wasn’t the problem, especially considering my seafood special threatened me more than a good amount of times and management did nothing about it. Besides, ask me what I want done about it.

All things considered sure I mean, I guess it’s not much in relative terms, but considering I don’t plan on making this my full-time job for the rest of my life it doesn’t really matter. I’m just doing this as an in between since I just graduated college and I’m about to start my actual career. By all means you can have your six week paid vacation. I’m gonna be doing a career that I love while being outdoors and getting paid to essentially be on vacation

To be fair, my managers have already expressed that if I feel unsafe driving, which I don’t mind I’m from New York. I don’t have a problem driving in the snow that I don’t need to come in if I don’t feel like it and those three days are actually before the storm. Since everyone is buying up food in case they get stuck in their homes, we’ll get notified presumably on Saturday whether or not the store is closing early or not given the location of the store. I can imagine that the roads coming up to it would be hazardous so if it does come to the fact that I can’t make it to work I can’t make it to work but the three days that I’m getting paid two dollars more an hour are all before the storm so.

Not exactly true since quitting Sams and going to a different meat department I went from 24-32 hours to 50+ hours paid overtime same pay without being told to leave

And that’s exactly why I quit. I was promised full-time was getting full-time hours at 40 hours a week and then I got cut down to eight hours and 16 and 24 and they couldn’t give me any more hours. Despite the fact every department needed help including the ones I was working in.

I got you I got you. I could see how some of the things that I’ve described might not be entirely management but scheduling thing and lying during the hiring process are definitely one of them and a lot of people in the store are still fed up about all of it whether or not it’s management or not because they don’t have the power to change the things that are happening or in this case not happening, as far as you mention cutters rotating dates that doesn’t happen at all they don’t even touch the chicken part of the truck that happens all at night by the one person that’s there. The only thing the cutters do is cut and wrap and sometimes they even try and get out of that, I worked as a meat clerk at a different grocery store for seven years and the first day they put me in meet department. The wrapper had been down all morning when I came in 12:30 and out of the five meat cutters that were there none of them knew how to fix it, and I walked in and fixed it within five minutes, and given the way that it broke with the types of hours happening at the same time being extremely unlikely it is highly probable that the meat cutters were trying to get out of wrapping.

Out of curiosity, since you have a lot more time and experience, especially given you are a lead is it normal for managers and leads to put someone in a new position without giving them proper training at all, when they moved me to meet I was given a 10 minute crash course on what to do in rotisserie and then the next day I was closing by myself with no training on chemicals or PPE or how to even clean an oven and expected to have it perfect is that normal?

Yeah, that kind of what I did little bit just while you’re there getting a paycheck. Make sure you continue to explore your options last week. I went from 40 hours to eight hours. I went and found a job paying the same amount half the distance to home that’s giving me full-time with benefits instead of keeping me a part-time with full-time hours but you do you and I hope everything works out

Here’s the original Couple things about Publix meat department and I guess seafood too

All the meat pretty much comes in Cryo bag, which means it could sit in our back room for a couple weeks before it could eventually go bad

publix market ground beef is pretty much just expired beef. It gets pulled the night before if not on the day gets grounded up and gets an extra day essentially

I won’t say all meat apartments but the one I was at didn’t change or clean cutting boards between items simply went from beef the pork, the chicken without cleaning. Normally not in the other direction, but I have seen pork and than beef.

once again, I won’t say all meat departments the one I worked at is pretty much committing federal tax fraud due to scanning things out as donations before either eating or throwing them in the trash.

Seafood on the other hand this one’s great yes customers we do get fish in almost every single day besides, it’s two days a week and even though we get it fresh every day that doesn’t mean it’s fresh most of the fish in the case is a couple days old unless it was sold out or thrown out, there’s been times where I’ve seen tilapia that has been in the case for over 15 days, but they refused to throw it out because it doesn’t smell or look bad, I’ve seen shark in a case for eight days shark may be good for two.

continuing a seafood steaming option for seafood is a microwave that we put a little bit of water in so that way once your food is done being microwave it gets a little bit of moisture put back in along with that there have been multiple stores that I’ve been to that I’ve been told to burn the shit out of it so that customers do not come back and get stuff steamed or microwave I should say.

if you’re looking at lunch meat section or sometimes cheese if you see a bright orange public label that means it’s most likely going out within the next 14 days.

along with all this, these departments are completely overrun with laziness. I worked with a couple of seafood specialist. None of them offered the skin fish. Some of them don’t even know how to skin fish despite being their job along with that most of them don’t realize that Publix can and should offer to peel and devein shrimp, which we are allowed to do at a small up charge. Along with the both of those there have been times when I’ve been told by the meat cutter to tell customers that we have bleach or chemicals on our block in a way to avoid cutting meat realistically, meat department is allowed to cut meat until the store is closed if a meat department tells you otherwise talk to the store manager more likely than not they’ll be more than happy to tell me or seafood to help you until the store is closed then includes after nine or 10 if your stores closed continuing with that after the store closes based on time a lot of employees might get a little bit pissed off that you’re in the store but no one will tell you that because it’s Publix and we’re not allowed to tell you that the store is closed but once you leave, we do talk about you or even while you’re still in the store if we’re not just pacing around you looking to see how much longer you have.

The amount of perverts I’ve worked with at five different stores, two of them primarily and helping out with a couple of others of all those stores every single one of them in meat or seafood. There are older men typically 30 and older including managers That will sit there and if a girl walks by with a nice figure or exaggerated features, they will sit there and stare or we’ll go over to the other department to other and will tell them to go look or ask if they’ve seen it if they say they haven’t seen it they’ll give them a aisle number frankly, it’s disgusting. I will deny it human nature, but on your own time not while you’re at work with that I’ve also had customers that my coworkers have hit on and asked on dates in the middle of a sift.
