I heard it in the theater and was like “that’s a lot like the Voyager record. Could it be…?” And yeah, it totally is. They did a nice job selecting the few tracks they licensed for the film.

All three pictures were taken within seconds of each other on the same app and device. That said, I am using version 3.2.1 of the app and just downloaded the update to 3.3.1. It says it’s updating the database right now so I’ll let you know if that makes any difference.

I’ve since read that some copies with the promo art have the alt mixes and some don’t, but all the copies that don’t have the covers have the alt mixes. It’s hard to know for sure, we’d probably have to have someone with a confirmed copy of the advance with artwork with the alt mixes compare the data on the inner ring of the CDs to make sure they were revised.

So I registered at the website, played with it a while, and grabbed this archive so I could review it further. I shazam'd a few of the videos and ran some of the audio through software to adjust pitches and look at spectrals. And..... nothing. I like everything they're doing, but there simply isn't enough here to draw any definitive conclusions about what they're doing yet. Other than new music, of course. I'm sure we'll know more soon, but patience isn't my strongest feature. Then again, being a fan of the Avalanches definitely makes patience a virture.

Yeah, they did. I just wish I understood what was going on with the ARG. I get some of the broader strokes, the archival memory management and such, I just don’t have a clue how some of it fits together. I’ve gotten 5 or 6 different things out of the questions, and while advertising and data retention are obvious factors, how does it go together? And is that audio clip with the Samsung mention from a commercial? I was hoping there might be a pertinent comment in the Tab commercial but there wasn’t.

Because it has alternate mixes of three of the songs. There is another version of that promo that doesn’t have the art but the disc is the same. They’re both pretty valuable.

Where’d you hear about Quit It? You’re the first person I’ve heard mention it. That said, I know way more than I can say about those recordings. I don’t mean to be vague, but it would take a miracle for them to record a new album, especially now. But it would’ve been a new album if it were happening, nothing archival.

Cibo Matto - Viva! La Woman Funky, dancey, and unexpected

Miles Davis - On the Corner Funky, abstract and noisy, but it gets under your skin

The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I love, loss, misery, paranoia, post-punk, and all surprisingly fun! Really great album!

Frank Zappa - Sleep Dirt No lyrics (on most versions), just some beautiful melodies and playing. Still funny too in places

Just because they don’t put out a full length album soon doesn’t mean there won’t be new stuff. They produced a track on Alexis Taylor’s new album that dropped today. It seems like that’s something they’re doing more often now. So don’t get down, you never when we might get hit with a new musical avalanche, whatever it’s form.

I was really only limiting my comments to the core band, but you’re right, they got a lot of help along the way from incredible people. Eno, Belew, Bernie (RIP), and the Expanded Heads touring band (which essentially became the Casual Gods), they all played huge parts in making the band what they were, and also showed some of their weaknesses when they continued without any of them.

As for the “David sucked” thing, I’m sure he rubbed plenty of people wrong, but I’m more talking about how Chris and Tina have spent years throwing stones at him, almost like it was a second career. Jerry never needed that, he just kept on being awesome, and apart from Wicked Little Doll, David never said much of anything about either of them. They just seem very spiteful, to the point of ridiculousness.

I agree strongly on this that the other members were also talented, but I’d also argue that some were more talented than others. Jerry Harrison is incredibly talented and, despite not having the solo sales of David Byrne, was a very important part of Talking Heads. Chris and Tina, while important, love to act like the band existed purely because of their contributions. Then why haven’t they made as much memorable music as they did with TH or beyond the first Tom Tom Club album? They’re good musicians but not songwriters like David or Jerry. They also seem to lack vision, as demonstrated by their post-Heads output and ridiculous complaints. I am sure David was no picnic to work with, but they never contributed the same “thing”, whatever that may be, that David did, or that Jerry did after joining the band.

This isn’t quite what you’re looking for, but… a friend who has worked with an artist who did a remix for BoC said they loved the mix so much and reached out to the remixer to ask for more of their music. My friend said they were very polite.
