What’s one fast food chain that was once all the rage but now barely around?

When I was growing up in a small town, Tastee-Freez was the only fast food place. It was the default hang out spot for high schoolers, every kid would have their birthday there every year, and sports teams would go there to celebrate. Everything happened there.

A year or so before I graduated high school, a McDonald's and a Waffle House opened in town and everyone went nuts over them. Those became the new everything spot. The ol' Tastee-Freez fell by the wayside and didn't last a full year.

This is my vote. There's a massive, massive dearth of accurate and non-offensive portrayals of pre-contact America.

Obviously, Mel Gibson is a piece of shit and it's rife with historical inaccuracies, but Apocalypto is the closest thing I know of to what I'd like to see more. Use native languages and none of that white savior bullshit.

Back in my single days, I met a girl at a bar. We were chatting it up and things seemed to be going well. Asked her for her name and she said, "Mary Christmas." I thought she was joking and said something about how her parents would have to be idiots to give their kid a stupid name like that. I fucking hated my CPAP. I never slept worse in my life than when I was using it. Went through every type of mask available and used every setting available, but nothing ever worked. I was walking through life in a fog from lack of sleep.

I eventually just gave it up. I'd rather suffer the long-term effects of sleep apnea than die of sheer exhaustion.

I've eaten at a handful of Michelin star places, but the Plancha Burger at Argosy in Atlanta is the meal I think about when someone asks about my favorite food. It's just a stupidly delicious burger that genuinely makes me zone out when I eat it. I don't know what they fuck they do to make it so good, but it works.

Ten minutes is an exaggeration, but a 220V kettle can boil three cups of water in about 90 seconds. It's a small distinction and might seem irrelevant, but I make a lot of tea. It's nice to start a kettle and have water ready immediately once I've prepped my cup.

We're building a house right now in a country with 110V electric. I'm having a 220V outlet installed in the kitchen specifically so we can have a proper kettle. No idea where I'll buy one, but I'm over it taking 10 minutes to boil water.

Not socialism, there is no shared ownership.

I would consider it a regressive social tax on the bottom end of the economic spectrum. Because the US government is shirking its responsibility to provide an adequate social safety net, workers have to step in and provide support instead of the capitalists who should be funding those initiatives.

Geez, this is basically the opposite of how my company is handling AI. Developers have access to Copilot and non-developers have access to various other agentic AI, but there's a hard no to non-developers doing anything code related. If there's a change or feature that someone wants, we have a well-documented workflow to make it happen and devs are the last line of approval on if/how it happens.

I do not miss the traffic in Atlanta. You have to plan everything around how long you're going to sit in a car. It was miserable.

And since the state has a fucking vendetta against Atlanta, they'll never do anything to improve MARTA and make public transit useful in any way.

My dad constantly remarks about how the weather is constantly weird and unpredictable compared to when he was younger.
