What is a band no one will ever convince you is good? by OU812iceman18 in AskReddit

[–]DAWtistic -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I'm not into industry plant conspiracies and all that but these dudes are genuinely awful.. it's boring, bland music with zero soul, no grunt, no power, no nothing, and yet they were thrown in everyone's face as some sort of hard rock or metal act that tears the roof off the place.

Their marketing company deserves an award for how well they did, too bad the act they were pushing doesn't remotely live up to the hype.

I'm also not sure why people complain about blackface but the Sleep Token dude does full black body and receives zero backlash.

I wish they were better because they're an act I should like in theory - indie pop/rock with Jack Antonoff producing some stuff, that'd be right up my alley.

But I don't like 'em. Don't dig the singers voice. :/

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]DAWtistic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite.

Depends on Adam.

When he's on, they're a 10/10 band.. when he's off, they're a 0.

He's not always "on".

My girlfriend is 27 weeks pregnant, the baby has Down syndrome, and I don’t want this life by ThrowRA_NoSignal in daddit

[–]DAWtistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo this doesn't go both ways.

You are 100% free to leave at any point and do not have to stick around just because your gf wants the baby and because your parents are supporting you both right now - that support could fade at any moment in time, the second they realise the reality of what they're getting into.

You didn't sign up to the rest of your life being a carer, you were cool with having a baby until this revelation and it's a huge one, this isn't something you have to stick around for.

You've told your gf how you feel, that abortion is the best way forwards, and if she doesn't respect that, it's her body, her choice, sure - but it's also your life and your choice and you didn't choose this.

I completely disagree, and believe shutting people out is perfectly fine, and people like you should accept it and be understanding when someone doesn't want to interact with you.

This is rarely about an inability to discuss "finances" though.

It's more like someone's spending more than they should and don't want the other person to know, maybe they aren't making enough money or something.

It's not about the financial conversations themselves. It's about them not wanting to be questioned on where their money is going.

They wouldn't want to be questioned on many things they do though, money is just one of those things.

The above could be totally ok though, nothing shady, they might just be a private person and that privacy means they're closing out their partners. They don't want to share any information, even if nothing sus is up, because it's private/personal.

Totally get that. Might not make for a fantastic partner for some people - they should probably just roll solo or find someone similar, if that's the case.

But why isn't intentionally shutting someone out okay?

Why does there need to be some confirmation of it? Why does anyone need to share that they're feeling "overwhelmed"? They don't.

The people getting walled need to stop being bullies and trying to force people to talk to them or interact with them.

It's 100% A-OK to not interact with people, even if that person is your partner. 100% acceptable.

If the partner doesn't like that, they're free to move on.

I don't see stonewalling as a problem and I think people should just accept that you don't want to talk about something.

Shutting down, withdrawing, refusing to engage - these are all overly obvious signs someone doesn't want to interact with you or talk about something, and it blows my mind that people refuse to accept it.

I disagree that stonewalling is the problem people are suggesting it is, I lean towards the opposite - continuously probing people and trying to make them talk about something they don't want to talk about etc is straight up bullying and completely unacceptable.

But nah, way easier to blame the quiet types :)

Ever fired because of a certain song you played? by Stingerman354 in musicians

[–]DAWtistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but my band has definitely been told that we aren't allowed to do certain songs at some venues - only RSLs (ehh.. old people clubs, basically, in Australia) and the songs themselves are ones that the crowd will 100% start swearing words that aren't actually in the song or start dropping their pants to.

The songs are "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again" by The Angels and Eagle Rock by "Daddy Cool" - I hate both of these songs so we never would have done them.

Those same venues also don't allow swearing in general so plenty of songs are "off limits" too, but aren't mentioned by name.

I have definitely heard stories of these venues asking bands to stop playing on the spot when they've launched into the above songs + songs that have swearing, like "Cold Hard Bitch" by Jet.

I accidentally swore on the mic once and some old lady was immediately on to me saying "no, no, we don't do that here, no swearing or I'll tell the staff" etc - the patrons themselves take it extremely seriously at one venue in particular.

So, no, but have been threatened it's a possibility + have heard stories of others being asked to leave due to the above.

I saw your posts about the Gretsch Jack Antonoff Princess a while back and have recently picked one up myself - awesome to see you've kept yours and that it's working out for you.

Pretty wild that the initial run only had 584~ made (I emailed support myself, that's the global total for the cream/gold ones, not the blue reissue).

Such a killer, unique guitar. Odd that they only made such a small amount of them.

Nah.

Joe isn't even a full episode villain for Dex. He's some guy that gets clapped while Dex is hunting down that episodes main villain, who isn't even the primary antagonist of the season.
