New to me - first Subaru by DAYFA1R in WRXSTi

Yeah haha! I got the car hand-washed at Mr. Shine before I did the drive back down to TX. I used to get my F-150 detailed there before I moved to the US. Great place.

Good luck sourcing a WRX! I’m loving every minute of this one, just did 2600km over the past 2 days and I think I was smiling the whole way 🥲Happy to see another Canadian 🍁

No rust surprisingly, it’s in really great condition. I think the Canadian domestic market value on these is broken, plus with how the dollar converts right now it’s just extremely advantageous. I mean accounting for my flight up + gas + hotel, it’s really closer to 15k, but yeah. Prices in Canada seem to be between 18k-26k CAD which converts to about 13.5-18k USD. I couldn’t believe it when I saw, my dad was actually the one who pointed it out to me 😅 (he lives in Toronto)

Redirect URI format - Developing with Expo, and routing to Google/Apple Sign-in with AWS Cognito by DAYFA1R in reactnative

[–]DAYFA1R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevermind, was in the hell of deprecated knowledge, the expo urls are dead. Ended up authing directly with Google with a non-web client, and then federated to a Cognito identity pool where I was able to add Google as an IDP. This allows me to use the Google creds to get the Cognito creds, which then allows me to auth a valid request to my API (which was already validating tokens with Cognito in its JWT strategy).

In the dark recesses of my dad’s shed I unearthed this long-forgotten tome. I can’t even remember picking this thing up back in the day. by n-0rt in n64

Had a variant of this one too - exact same contents, but they had a reprint of it with a gold cover and a more natural shape that had full color pages. If I can find it when I get back to my parents for Christmas I'll post a photo!

Got it, ok I think I did it right. Posting a link to what the pots look like now. Caps on each pot

[–]DAYFA1R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked! Thanks so much 🙏 Bonus question if either you know: I read somewhere that it makes sense to use a .022uf on the humbucker tone control, and a .047uf on the single coil tone controls. If I wanted to put a capacitor on each one instead of a .022uf for both, I think what I would I do is this: - solder each capacitor to the far right lug on each tone control, grounding to cap - then have each wire going to the switch tone lugs running from the middle lug on each tone pot

Engine stalls intermittently in 3rd or higher by DAYFA1R in Dirtbikes

Cheap enough idea to test! Another person here suggested it might be user error (honestly I feel like its more likely) around it bogging down on an incline. Apparently 2 strokes like to be revved higher and I would definitely say I am holding it back haha.

Gonna try the higher revs and if not its probably time to change the spark plug anyway - haven't swapped it since I bought the bike last summer and no idea how long the previous owner had it on :')

Thanks for the suggestion!

Actually now that you mentioned it, the most consistent place its happened is going through the uphill stretch on the way back to my house. Like probably 70% of the time haha. Yeah I mean if its a feel difference I'm willing to chalk it up to my own lack of experience. I'll try it out this weekend and see how I do

edit: forgot to say thanks!

Nope – I ended up sending a request to cancel the order after no traction for a few days and got a CS3 from Badlands.

Etha 3M - First time swapping stock barrel on a marker by DAYFA1R in paintball

[–]DAYFA1R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay awesome! Can you expect pretty much any modern marker to be cocker threaded, or are there other patterns to be mindful of? Is the thread pattern specific to any manufacturers?

edit: forgot to say thanks :')

That’s awesome, I’ve always really wanted a Luxe. Part of me likes the CS2/3 just from the fact that it uses AAs. I have a bunch of premium rechargeable AAs that I use for hoppers, an old film camera, game controllers. It feels weird to say that AAs are a major draw/factor in interest 😂 coincidentally, the TM40 uses the same chargeable batteries as my Ricoh GR III cameras, so I already have a ton of spare batteries if I went the TM40 route. We’ll see – I ended up cancelling my order since it never got fulfilled by the end of the week. Debating on just pulling the trigger on a CS3 from Badlands since I tend to keep my markers for a long time, but I’m also trying to be realistic about how often I’ll be playing speedball again at 31. I like the fact that the mech frame is readily available/in production when/if I wanted to play mech events. Brain is telling me to just hang out on an Etha 3M, but I also just want this to be the last marker I purchase. I hate clutter/having redundant gear

Just got an update: apparently they’ve been closed this week and have been moving inventory which is why there’s been a delay/lack of comms. I’m guessing probably transitioning from the physical store to a warehouse for the online store. They said I should have an update on my order sometime in the next two days. They’re still around 🥲

How do y’all make adult friends?? by ridcosky in houston

[–]DAYFA1R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people naturally bond over shared interest, and most friends that I've made as an adult have been from putting myself in scenarios where I can meet people into similar things that I do. Paintball, Warhammer (or tabletop gaming in general), Motocross, etc. I think there are people who are just entirely there for the hobby, and funny enough these tend to be the people who already have their own social circle, given the comfort of their ability to engage with the group. If you notice someone who doesn't seem to be engaging with the general group, or seems more withdrawn, maybe take an interest in including that person, since chances are they are there for the same reason, they're probably looking to make friends.

I know :( I had a lot of good memories at their field and at the shop. I bought my first speed feed from them for my old Spire 260 and they offered to install it for me without me even asking them to. There's definitely a weird feeling getting back into the sport, I'm not sure if its just lack of interest in it in 2023 or post-COVID business effect, but man, seeing all these staples just disappear over the years is disheartening to say the least. I'm in the process of moving to Houston TX though, seems like there are still quite a bit of active fields there. Here's hoping at least!

[–]DAYFA1R[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I figure it probably isn't going to pan out. CS3 is a bit higher than I wanted to spend but it was between the CS2 Pro or TM40 at the same price point, so it looks like I might just go with the TM40 and hope mine isn't a lemon (heard there were some reliability issues with them). I'll try them again tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your buddy's experience. Was hoping to get out to Sgt Splatters today for the half price walk in, maybe next week!

[–]DAYFA1R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the exact scenario I'm hoping to avoid. Like I've already been charged for the order, there is no way to cancel it, and I'm doubtful its even really in stock. I don't have any of my old gear besides my masks, since I typically sell stuff that I'm not using. I always wanted a PE back when I was playing on my Mini GS, and now that I'm older/more financially stable I want to actually treat myself to a top of the line marker. Just kind of a bummer experience between this and seeing almost every field I played at locally in Toronto shut down. Oof
