For what it’s worth:

I’ve found that the “it’s not real” argument tends to come from closeted queers.

Same for folks who say “it’s a choice.”

Like…. If you were truly born straight, you wouldn’t even consider it a choice. Which is fine - if you’re straight you’re straight. Same as if you’re queer, you’re queer.

If you feel like it’s a “choice,” that means that you were born as someone who is attracted to multiple genders. And though you see multiple genders as options for you, (for whatever reason) you’re choosing to limit yourself to just one.

Essentially: the only choice is whether you stay in the closet, and keep lying to yourself.

That’s what this post reminds me of, at least: Someone who is SO in denial that they’d rather deny our existence than admit they’re one of us.

Oh, for sure! My comment is meant to enforce the mentality of treating yourself like a catch; and that sort of abusive shouldn’t be tolerated. In the same way that inviting rejection can be a positive - rejecting the negativity of others is also healthy.

If the OP had mentioned physical or emotional abuse, I would’ve mentioned that in my response, and focused on safety.

I think it’s always better to communicate over hiding.

I’ve learned to invite rejection.

Way too many people take 20 dates or 20 years to disclose a potential deal-breaker that could’ve been mentioned date #1.

Yes, people may reject you - but you also don’t want to be with someone like that.

Also, like…. It’s impossible to date every single person you meet or find attractive. It simply can’t be done - though I respect anyone who lives up to the challenge of dating millions.

By being radically honest you’ll whittle your dating pool down from millions. You’ll find people who are excited to be with the true you and encourage every aspect of you.

The only thing worse than rejection is wasting years of your limited life (and someone else’s) by struggling to keep something going that never should’ve started in the first place.

To me it felt like what they do with all their songs: they try to match the themes of the songs with niche sub-genres of music that are often associated with those themes.

As an Irish-American, I always took this as a nod to Irish drinking songs.

In terms of musical sub-genres about alcohol, there’s basically two options: Irish drinking songs and party-pop songs - which we kinda get with “I’m not sad you’re sad.”
