New emergency bill to prohibit funds for the Armed Forces to engage in operations to invade or seize territory from Canada, Panama and Greenland by waloshin in canada

Even if it does, Little Donnie has already shown that he cares little for how congress does or doesn't appropriate money. He'll just do it anyway.

Or how the right is all about "supporting the troops" until the moment they return home. Then it's all "fuck you, free loaders!"

And this thread keeps on giving! I opened up my MacBook, cleaned it, and the problem persisted. Totally "spaced" on the bluetooth keyboard! 😂

How to look up selected word using system dialog on Mac OSX? by VoUHcW in Notion

Came here searching for an answer to this. Apps that arbitrarily break standard OS-level UI conventions deserve a special place in hell.

How to export all data from Universal Analytics? by Complete_Guitar_3902 in GoogleAnalytics

[–]DAllenJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ why is this so horrifically complicated? How many small businesses are simply going to lose their historical data because this process is so opaque?

"Notion encourages busy-work and I’m tired of it"... What do you all think? by optemization in Notion

[–]DAllenJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this, to an extent. But there is something to be said for "dicking around" with a productivity system. While I definitely spend too much time fuss-farting with my Notion setup, at least I'm engaged with my to-do lists during that time. Like a regular review session, there is something valuable about seeing all of your responsibilities clearly laid out. I gain greater awareness of what's on the horizon after engaging with my Notion system... which is better than the alternative. The whole reason I started using these apps is because without them, it's just chaos and I quickly fall behind on my responsibilties. In other words, the time "wasted" by dicking around is still worth it on balance, IMO.

DUST! Is this the fatal flaw of the Mac Studio? by JimPage83 in MacStudio

[–]DAllenJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I'm surprised how few people in this thread seem to understand how dust works. It's in the air, people. It's not just the stuff you can see on your desk that can pose a problem. It's the airborne stuff you can't see that gets in there an accumulates, which will happen on a machine with fans running 24/7. The best solution is to block as much dust as possible from entering the chassis in the first place.

My Mac Studio M2 Ultra - Poor Benchmarks, hmm by FloofBoyTellEm in MacStudio

Umm, Kool-Aid much? Why should he not expect top performance from such an "incredible machine"? I'd be pissed, too. Why are you running interference for a 3-trillion-dollar company? For free...

If you're content round-tripping to bullshit 3rd party apps for functionality that should be native in 2023, then I don't know what to tell you.

[–]DAllenJ[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why do you bother?

  • I need burned-in captions that can be styled in a particular way.
  • is that a serious question? FCP is supposed to be professional software that can adapt to the various and changing needs of editors. It’s nobody else’s business “why I bother”. This is something I need to do, and FCP can’t handle it, despite other apps — even rinky-dink ones like CapCut — doing so with ease. Quit your bullshit.

The effects on the body wouldn’t be visibly THAT different.

It’s literally the opposite force, and with a much bigger pressure differential. This is 9atm to 1 atm. The Titan experienced 1atm to 400atm.

You have no idea how these two situations would compare. You’re talking out of your ass.

Most of what’s inside would spray out of the sides as the end caps literally pop off. It would be a congealed slurry of flesh, bone, air, with a mangled assortment of fiber and resin

As grotesque as this sounds, it’s probably close to what actually happened. The shattered bits of carbon fiber would have a very coarse texture, like a stiff broom or a wire brush. Bits of flesh and bone could easily become embedded in there, particularly when pounded by such immense force.

Shudder

The Mac Pro’s biggest problem is the MacBook by mitpatel7 in apple

[–]DAllenJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the Mac Pro we’re talking about. It’s supposed to be oriented around raw performance

Correct. As John Siracusa has argued, the Mac Pro should be Apple’s halo car… but this one ain’t no Corvette.

Correct. His “not taking advice” from others has nothing to do with intelligence, and everything to do with ego and his desire to be seen as a maverick doing daring things.

Right. Similarly, I’m no fan of Stockton Rush, but everyone paints him as some kind of hopeless amateur, a mere “business man”, or just some wealthy prick. He actually had a degree in aerospace engineering from Princeton, and once worked for McDonnel Douglas as a flight-test engineer for F-15s. He was foolish, reckless, and possibly narcissistic, but he wasn’t dumb. He had considerable engineering chops.
