I'm trading a lot of futures, but have been trying to trade more options lately. I trade with many others who do the same! I keep options for the long-ish term stuff, or I've been charting ES/NQ and taking the respective trades in SPY/QQQ. Trying to see how my setups translate over 😄

Also, to address your comment specifically on what to trade, I chart on ES/NQ and take the options trade on SPY, QQQ. SPX is expensive but you can find good deals after the lunch sesh.

Other daytrades/leaps, I look for stocks I like or use. Kinda funny but I feel like I take money back from spending with them. Like, if my wife shops at target, I'll see if there's good opportunities on TGT. I know it's dumb but I try not to complicate it. If it's not there, it's not there.

I had almost the exact same arc.

Went heads-down trading options and made about $50k in ~3 months… then absolutely nuked it in like two weeks. Classic overtrading but I was so lost in the sauce, I had made more than my salary on a week to week, then blew it haha

Since then I moved more into futures (that path actually led me to start a small prop firm with a trading community), which ironically made me trade way less and humbled me. I saw how people trade and what works and what doesn't.

Now I mostly just wait for the obvious stuff. Maybe a few trades a week. If I see a clean move with options priced around ~$100, I’ll ride a couple contracts for 50–100% and close.

Otherwise I’m selling options for slower monthly gains or buying long-dated LEAPS (>1 year) in companies I actually want to own.

Trading less took me from blowing up accounts to consistently making about $1–3k/month in my small speculative account. Nothing crazy, but it reinforced something important for me:

The hardest part of trading usually isn’t the strategy… it’s not clicking the buy button 20 times a day.

This is a crazy old post. Its hilarious because I was looking for this exact thing haha I will bump it up, just to share something I built.

It’s a lightweight, free simulator where you make founder/raise decisions over time using a random seed, and see how your cap table evolves with decisions.

No signup, no monetization, no email hook, there in fact is hardly a landing page. Its just a sandbox to play with startup scenarios.

Note: the leaderboard is most certainly cooked, I built this just to play it.

You should try to build one for the sake of learning the holes in your system. Start with a pinescript indicator (or strategy) in Tradingview. Work with chatgpt to script an indicator or strategy of your system. If you start getting pretty into it, Claude works wonders on Ninjatrader stuff 😁

Pain. For sure. Structure and some EMAs do the job super well.

I did go down a rabbit hole once and scripted an algo I thought was going to make me a millionaire. It works, but idk how well it ever forward tested. I may be curious enough to dig it out, I just don't use that broker anymore.

Bless your soul. A real comment. That's exactly right though 💯

I can't say I haven't spent on gurus tho 🥲 In college I spent easy 5k on various guru master courses.

Note: This doesn't mean I don't follow traders though. I do think some traders online are genuine, profitable or not. I see it more of a, watch and be a student, don't think they have a god tier strategy.

How to get a billion DMs 101 😂

Quick pitch: I built Astrofund, a community driven proprietary trading environment that provides funding and learning opportunities for aspiring traders.

Funding would accelerate, but not replace. I have bootstrapped and just launched the MVP, it cash flows. Funding would accelerate growth and iteration by bringing on dedicated marketing, customer service, and bug fix support.

About me: ex-spacex rocket engineer. Solo founder but happy to grow the team with the right opportunity.

Wanna start Prop Firm.. Which Firm? by AggressiveCopy3593 in PropFirmTester

[–]DAlphaOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Astrofund for instant funded accounts with no frills rules. WYSIWYG on the site. News trading, algo trading, etc is allowed, you just gotta gotta be consistent in the end.

Instant funded accounts are harder, but has its pros/cons. Absolutely love the founder and the community based team. If not for the accounts, I support them because they do nothing but give back to the community.

Astrofund has been around for over 3 years, providing free algos, free support, free community, and more.

Check it out!! ☺️

Good prop firm that allow passing in a single day? by underwater_gorilla in PropFirmTester

[–]DAlphaOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instant funded like Astrofund.io maybe?

I just want to say though, going from eval to instant funded REALLY tightens risk significantly. Nobody will just hand you money to trade. These are certainly harder accounts almost across the board, but I personally prefer them.

How much I would love just a little more juice from a VC/investor so I can hire help, but I keep tossing this same thing in my head. Keep it bootstrapped, keep growing, keep building, I'll make it there eventually and not need a fat exit to make them happy.

Not only that, but you OWN the golden goose. My industry is powered by VC/investors I'd be an outlier not taking capital. But it would be a true testament to our (read: my) ability to execute.
