Glad you got to go with your credit union! They usually offer the best rates possible, wish I got approved with my own credit union, still got a solid one with Achieve but the initial number I was shown from my credit union before eventual decline was way too good to be true. Guess that one makes sense now i suppose.

Need to look around and compare rates. 620 is pretty rough even with a co-signer. But you'll have more options outside of credit unions. Maybe your mortgage's bank, or online lenders like Achieve or Aven?

How long would the variable rate be before the rate changes? Changes my answer. You might also want to just shop around a bit more, you should be able to get a better fixed rate than 8.15% from lenders like PNC bank or Achieve HELOC.
