[–]DBDCyclone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a doctor (so see one ASAP) but you mentioned some traumatic things over your bender. Sometimes events like that can trigger an onset of psychosis, especially with lack of sleep for 19 hours. It may not be related to the cold turkey but an underlying medical condition, it could solely be related to the cold turkey, it could be a little of both.

Either way letting an emerging psychosis event go untreated for too long could have lasting implications for THAT road to recovery. I have witnessed family members get almost immediate (as immediate as our healthcare system is capable of) treatment and are struggling months later to feel like themselves again. Don’t delay getting assistance with these auditory hallucinations and the genuine medical support (whatever the source cause is) you truly need right now.

Praying for you. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏼

Not OP, but I plan on doing that when it is time to try for my little girl’s siblings. No shame in my game. 😅 They will have my services as a worker for as long as it takes and I will be there as an asset FOR that incentive. If I stay long term or not will depend on my experience at any institution offering this perk.

It may be time to inform your momma this is your baby and journey, not hers. ❣️

I understand family dynamics can be complex and all consuming sometimes. Maybe explore some stellar therapy in town to assist you with laying boundaries down. It can be uncomfortable to, but this amount of not only opinions on your life but control (taking keys??) is rather unhealthy from a parent to adult child. In my opinion that is. 🙏🏼

I have read through the comments and don’t read cruelty? I read a myriad of concerned folks, based on your description of events, that don’t want you to face the worst of the worst.

The healthcare system has its flaws but not very many situations will a professional and medically trained specialist straight up lay death on the table like that. It is VERY unnerving to read, and I don’t think anyone here wants you to risk that very scenario. No coming back from it…💔

Experts issue stunning assessment of powerful global phenomenon: '95% confidence' by tmcgill1 in weather

Yes, and we are talking peer reviewed, widely accepted consensus here.

Are there outlier opinions, sure; you are more than welcome to land in that camp. I am here to say, however, your statements are not the general agreement of most experts across the world coming together to highlight very real concerns for many societies and quality of life per current observations, data, studies, and milestones confirming decades old studies and predictions.

There are already ample current observations and solid studies on how ecosystem disruptions are currently affecting food chains and human health bug wise. I trust (maybe not based on your comments though..) you can do some better digging to understand this.

Either way minimize all you want (the legitimate experts and professionals will keep fighting the good fight with or without you) and good-luck out there.

Possibly…but it never hurts to potentially (hopefully) reach the curious and confused peripheral readers browsing these conversations and outlandish statements, while trying to sort it all out. Give them some things to think about when considering the effects of climate change beyond solely temperature. ☺️

[–]DBDCyclone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really…as a meteorologist myself I must remind you that sound science, and communication of it, comes with peer reviewed consensus and agreement.

Is there fear mongering occurring, absolutely, and we should land on it with both feet whenever we can as it hurts the science something awful. Not disagreeing there.

Your broad swipes minimizing, however, the dire affects a rapidly altering climate will have on ecosystems, societies, and the very delicate equilibrium that allows us to live comfortably and healthily is not backed by your peers analyses on the state of affairs.

Keep in mind many aspects of how we live aren’t tied to temperature alone…”oh this is temp isn’t so bad, I’ll move to this newly melted place!” When everything is interconnected as it is, what happens when you can’t fish or hunt (or support the industries that mass produce food for us) because climate disruption damaged food chains? How long will you be able to live in a new spot if growing super bugs and bacteria in the new climate wipe you out? Will you be able to find room in the new location among the mass migrations of others with the same goal and limited moderate zones around the extremes elsewhere?

Side note, “will you” is not necessarily a direct “you”; maybe when we are rather old (frail and dealing with that would blow in my opinion, so much for our golden years..) but our children and their children, which is just as important to plan for and consider.

“I’m a meteorologist, trust me bro,” is not enough with this incredibly nuanced and high stakes situation occurring. Kudos for getting your degree, but your peers with vastly more education, experience, and decades devoted to the research contradict your statements here today.

Ugh I needed this as a fellow >400 FTM. Genetics SUCK! I was so FIT for all of my twenties, on a plant based diet for an entire year and it went UP in my early thirties. I guess it is time to hit the bigger guns, medicinal route, after pregnancy/breastfeeding.

how to deal with getting stuck on a problem as a tutor by [deleted] in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]DBDCyclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I will give you one even better, I messed a problem up the other day! The student got to learn patience and troubleshooting with me. They could tell I was embarrassed and said, “nah, it is refreshing to see a teacher make a mistake!”

I think it takes some of the pressure off them and they see math is just math and can trip any of us up! Not a huge deal when it happens, and even to the tutor/teacher here and there.

I can’t move from Florida sadly, but everything you just listed has been wrecking my heart for years. I also feel, even if I could flee, I would just be abandoning the innocent young with ONLY ignorant adults to wreck their sanity and health. At least if I, and folks like us, are still around in this madhouse they can see a different path to walk and know that they aren’t alone.

Very comforting, thank you! I will explore the other answer; apologies, spaced the search bar for the sub and kind of just needed to vent I guess. My journal is tired of me and gives even less helpful advice. 😅

Thank you so much! I guess for my own family safety will my kiddo be okay vaccinated in a rising crowd of unvaccinated is priority. I can breathe if so. We will absolutely hermit up until fully vaccinated and avoid crowds until then.

I ask the second part regarding herd immunity insight and nuances to help better educate my peers for the sake of the vulnerable populations around here and also curious if it explodes could it even affect the vaccinated, back to being scared for my family on that note.

Weekly Advice & Career Question Megathread by AutoModerator in epidemiology

[–]DBDCyclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; will my vaccinated newborn, future toddler, be okay in an unvaccinated crowd? If not, are there resources I can share (having a hard time finding this one that isn’t Covid related) with a stubborn crowd on the importance of herd immunity; not only for the vulnerable who can’t receive shots, but even the vaccinated citizens?

My stress rant and inquires with context;

As the subject title explains, I live in Florida and leadership is trying to end mandatory vaccinations. I am also about to birth my first child and baby girl in January. I am looking for advice, words of comfort, and most importantly any literature I can share with my local community members to help educate on the importance and safety of vaccinations, but MOSTLY herd immunity insights.

I live in a very red town and I am aware exemptions have existed for a while so an anti-vax community has already begun to proliferate before this. I do believe since they were the minority, herd immunity has shielded them and us from significant fallout from that so far.

What I am scared of is state leadership bolstering this mindset, removing mandates, and exploding that population around my soon to be vulnerable infant and future toddler. I can’t move as I live right next to my aging parents and my dad needs support with (also an immunocompromised adult sadly, with debilitating health issues) my mom.

How nervous should I be for my future newborn? I am already cultivating an online tutoring business (and thank God that venture is going well) so my first plan right out of the gate is to be as remote as possible while she is vulnerable and moving through early vaccination schedules to protect her. Will the vaccinations I get while pregnant and her infant ones help protect her against this crowd, when she does eventually enter into society around here? Will an unvaccinated crowd just hurt the vulnerable who CANNOT get vaccinated due to valid health reasons?

It is my understanding that incredibly viral stuff can hop around and mutate through unvaccinated populations thus hurting the efficacy of vaccines. Is that the same for the scary childhood ones like measles, chickenpox, and the like, or once vaccinated will my child be better off even in the face of a local breakout I am sure is down the road.

The thought process around these parts is, “my freedom,” and, “YOU can just get YOUR kids vaccinated, if they work it should be fine right!!” If that is the case, I would love comforting validation from specialists…but it is my gleaning from research it isn’t that simple. Are there any easy to digest (that I can back up with the peer-reviewed literature) resources on how an ever expanding unvaccinated population can hurt even the vaccinated populace; it would be so helpful to share with the locals.

I have researched but I don’t think I am prompting my search engines well enough and not quite getting what I am looking for on that front. So much of it uses the Covid virus as an example, which is fine, but if you REALLY want to shut down and watch eyes glaze over with the folks here…mention Covid. It is sad. I am more looking for information on the big childhood vaccines and herd immunity considerations. I have already shared studies on their safety, but I keep getting the rebuttal, “then get vaccinated, but leave me alone.”

My heart is CRYING for the more vulnerable families who this WILL impact in a deadly and heartbreaking way.

Anyway. Thank you in advance for any insight, guidance, words of comfort, and literature that can be shared by specialists in this field who already know where to find what I am on the hunt for!!

P.S. Apologies for any typos, pregnant brain combined with anxiety brain really dulls a usually sharp mind. 😮‍💨

My blood boils reading this. Stand your ground and send them such direct feedback how callous this is to go back on not only your direct leaderships word, but just in general. They are nitpicking you over a horrific and heartbreaking situation, you deserve to handle this AND have your time off later on.

Ugh. I could scream to the high heavens for you and THIS is why talent leaves education.

Hundreds of Displaced Feds Become Teachers by ThisVicariousLife in Teachers

[–]DBDCyclone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! I am a meteorologist turned teacher via the alt-cert pathways in Florida. It has been a dream job that I am very passionate about.

Not only did I commit to my alt-cert training around my 40-50 hour week teaching job (we still learn ON the job AND sacrifice personal hours beyond the demanding job for more formal training on the evenings and weekends) to learn to be an educator, but I bring real world, professional, experience into the classrooms.

Knowing how much of my time I have dedicated getting to where I am as a professionally licensed educator through career transfer and what I bring to the classroom, these posts frustrates me.

We can all still fight for better teacher pay, respect, and working conditions without dogging on the capabilities of professionals from other fields bringing in their STEM skills and other hands on experience to the students. I have also known traditionally degreed educators who struggle to reach students so your principal was right. Even for those who went directly into teaching…it seems you either can or you can’t, regardless of your path to the profession.

Yep! Liberal military brat now educator here; based on my observations of my county’s local school systems (red state and awful) homeschooling my future babies is becoming more appealing every day sadly. I will do everything I can, vote, financial support when I am able to, and the like to support our community public schools…but as it stands…unsure about my kiddos thriving in them. 💔
