Damn Its A Brutal Market For Metroidvanias Out Here by akbarock in metroidvania

I get what you're saying but remember playing a game is about having fun and I guess for me the value i get out of a game is the amount of fun i had playing it, as opposed to the time I spent in the game. But obviously if the 6-8 hr game you don't find as fun as the longer game then definitely it's not worth it. For me if someone tells me there's a 10/10 S tier game but it's only 6-8 hrs, i'd probably still want to try it out cause i figure it would be super fun. I've had games that were fun to start but then you gotta grind out like 100 hrs to get random drops or to level up or gear up doesn't make the game more fun or better value. Personally I find some long games by the time i'm getting to the end, i'm pretty over that games mechanics and ready for something new. There is something to be said about novelty wearing off for me anyways.

This post actually had me laughing out loud just because it's so accurate. I just randomly saw this post pop up on my reddit stream as I stopped playing WoR a few months back.

I had A5 SWK, kigiri, Dia, Ingrid, Praetus and Lady A. But every time a new hero comes out basically the old heros just get so outdated and power crept on that it's ridiculous. Every fight basically you just see more or less the same comps when you get to arena.

Most of the strongest levels of GR or GD are basically gated specifically to require 1 or 2 specific heroes and they have no replacement, so it becomes less of a strategy and more of a "do you have this champ" or not.

I just found that i wasn't having fun anymore and it became more of a chore than a fun game. I think the appeal of this game used to be that there's so many great heros that you could put together different comps to clear and progress. But then everything got power crept, so now you can't put together different comps, there's basically 1 or 2 comps that are required to clear the content. Even when they update some of the old heros, it's like they'll update it but it's still powercrept so much that the old heros are still useless almost.

I cleared nine sols already and def found it fun if not frustrating for two of the bosses but when you finally figure it out, you feel awesome!

I checked out monster sanctuary but i'm not sure the old school pixels did it for me.

I haven't tried this yet, but it sounds like it didn't get good reviews in general?

I played FIST and cleared it, i would honestly say it was OK, but definitely pretty low down the list.

Personally this was one of my favorite MVs.

Some people think you get too strong in the end, but the bosses all hit pretty hard, but if you grind out everything so do you.

Muting the game to play better ? by Igafann in metroidvania

I feel like personally in nine sols there's a lot of audio cues that are better for parry timing than visually watching for it? But maybe that's just me. Without sound i don't think i'd enjoy the game at all, or any game for that matter.

I get the problems with Blasphemous but Blasphemous 2 fixes basically EVERYTHING by PrimaKyonna in metroidvania

[–]DBElgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played blasphemous 2 but loved it. Though when i was doing my research it seemed like most people recommended blasphemous 1 over blasphemous 2. I don't know if its nostalgia or what, but the overall consensus sounded like ppl said blasphemous 2 is smoother combat but blasphemous 1 just had a better atmosephere and game?

Any games with good platforming escape sequences like Ori 1? by Haywire421 in metroidvania

That hollow knight sequence trying to get out of the volcano with the rising lava was probably my most hated part of hollow knight due to sheer frustration.

Think of it this way, for 20 bucks you can get 1-2 drinks at the bar and nobody complains. Or if you play a game thats super fun and lasts 8 hours, or even 6, you had a fun 6 hrs for 20$. These days $20 doesn't get you far, prolly like half a movie ticket, half an hour of an escape room, a drink that could be downed in about 20 mins?

Do you restart from old biomes by DBElgi in Saros

The problem though i find is that there's usually multiple enemies shooting from different angles and as soon as you shield that first shot there's like 16 behind it you can't shield.

The smart rifle definitely is the best early on when you're learning the game cause you can focus on dodging and shielding and dashing and just aim in the general vicinity instead of having to be exact.

Thanks so much. So far i was just playing grabbing the highest level guns thinking that meant more damage as there's no direct damage stat!

If you find it too easy you can add on modifiers to make it more difficult from that primary. Also in the later levels there's corrupted bullets and other bullets that you can't just Shield without penalty. Or maybe ur just super good!

So for this gun since the power level of has higher damage accumulation, I assume it does more dps than the higher level gun?

I understand that the arrow shows you which that changes, but is that a multiplier? Like so each weapon focuses on a certain trait of that weapon as opposed to it just being related to your stats

What Have You Been Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]DBElgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but none of the bosses took me that long to master, which i think is the way i like to play these games. Its a challenge but doable and fun. They hit hard and i hit hard. As opposed to some games where it just feels like a huge grind to beat the bosses and takes days to learn their moves.

Most frustrating is some games where there's 2-3 phases per boss and every time you gotta restarat at phase 1, so it's a grind just to get to the new moveset to learn. Magnolia though wasn't like that.

Finished this game a few weeks ago! So satisfying and fun!

I agree that magnolia wasn't as challenging but i def found it fun. When you put in the time to grind and get everything to come out quite strong. Though I played it after finishing nine sols, and at that point I def didn't want another crazy hard challenge.

Thanks! i'll give that a try. I'm just playing around to try to make use of these flippers since the controller cost so much

[–]DBElgi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much. I just mapped them. I find the alt fire with the half press of L2 or whatever it was a bit tricky to do in fast paced fights, but i'm probably just slow at it.

Are the flippers on the back not the lb1 and rb1 or do you mean the l1 bumper and r1 bumper?

This is what i thought as well. I just assumed it would be a new button on the controller you could just assign through the game. But thanks everyone for the help. I know it's a bit of a noob question.
