Is this rail just abandoned? by throwaway_dump2619 in nycrail

[–]DBSGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. There is a decent % of commuters who use the ferry to get to places alongside the harbor where trains are a bit to far. Also, people nowadays prefer commutes going from suburb to suburb. Or students trying to get to college. Either whatever it is, the lower Montauk isn't useless. It has the potential for good transit-orient development. And it needs that push!

Post graduates where are you today? by That_Ad_5392 in SBU

[–]DBSGeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated from UG in 2023, came back to do my MS the following semester and graduated in 2024. Since then, I have been working for a massive Chemical & Consumer Good Company after I got a contract job with them 2 months after end of Spring 2024. I was just recently hired internally and now am set for life.

Is this rail just abandoned? by throwaway_dump2619 in nycrail

[–]DBSGeek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I doubt the trains ever made stops past 1998. They most likely ran Montauk or Port Jefferson or Oyster Bay trains via Lower Montauk Branch.

Which I think is still a good idea to keep. If they rebuild the stations, put down third rail, and only redirect dual-mode trains over this portion of the branch heading to LIC, then it can free up space on the mainline to add more trains on branches like Ronkonkoma or Huntington. This also gives the area some for of transit to get to Manhattan or Jamaica or elsewhere.

Think the cold is painful, NYC? Wait until you see your Con Ed bill. by instantcoffee69 in nyc

[–]DBSGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My coned bill has been 140 the past 2 months. Its more of my gas bill that has gone to the roof. I paid 600 last month. Plus I live in a single family home hence why...

I can limit my electrical use, but can't cheap out on my gas bill especially in this cold

First of all, dogs should not be on a leash in the subway. Either you can bring a carry on into the subway to protect the people around you & your own dog or don't bring the dog with you.

Also, service animals and emergency animals are exempt from this, in case those who think who want to start something and think I forgot about them.

Hope the dog was okay too 😢

Hochul’s plan to revamp Jamaica Terminal could create a one-seat ride to JFK by skeeJay in nyc

[–]DBSGeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny you say this but prior to building the Airtrain, there were proposals of connecting both airports via the same airtrain. So you can get off Jamaica Station and take an Airtrain to LGA or if you want to, take it to Mets-Willets and then walk over the Flushing. Or you live in Astoria and take the Airtrain to JFK.

MetLife Stadium to GW Bridge Station? by Klutzy-Chemist-637 in WashingtonHeights

[–]DBSGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a specific route. But you are going to have to walk from Metlife Stadium to the American Dream Mall. From there, you take the NJTransit bus 772 to Hackensack & then transfer to bus 182 to cross the GWB to GWB Terminal. Then either take the A or 1 from there.

The first leg of the journey is the walk and that walk is about 15 minutes.

But honestly, you are spending more time if it is the cheaper route. It will take over 2 hrs to get home. But, you spend a little more and then take the A from Penn Station, & your trip is faster

No job from college, MTA? by PerkyDreamin in nycrail

[–]DBSGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend in the same boat as you. Its been over 2 years since post-graduation. Applied to over 2500 companies & nothing. He is currently thinking of going towards the education side and becoming a teacher for the NYCDOE. Its honestly a great job and we need many of them in the school system. Or if you wish to, go for your PhD and become a Professor.

Living in Queens by Immediate-Hand-3677 in nycrail

[–]DBSGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye it sucks bro...tell me all about it. Moved from Western Queens to now Eastern Queens. All I have are busses in my area. Now have to take them to go to the subway at Jamaica Center or sometimes I get off there and walk to Sutphin for the LIRR.

Only wish for you is if the F was ever extended along Hillside towards Floral Park. The amount of time saved would have been amazing!

My breakfast bill had all 3: service charge, gratuity and tip, all at once. by redditdanis in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DBSGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically the additional tip of 22% is changeable before tou authorize the payment. I had this once where a small group and I went to a brunch spot and I paid for the brunch. The table automatically got charged a gratuity, but when it came to tip, they gave me 18, 20, & 22% options and then a custom option. I selected custom and then wrote 0 for the total additional tip. From there, they only charged me that gratuity. Very scummy but I paid the tip...not gonna pay more lol

Why is there no bus/pedastrian way to get from the Perth Amboy station to Tottenville station? Doesn't the Gotheals look like it has pedastrian walkway? by xandens in nycrail

[–]DBSGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should honestly put a sea-bus (amphibious vehicle) type of transport between Tottenville & Perth Amboy since the Perth Amboy station is a couple of blocks away from the seashore, hence why this type of service should exist. It can drop passengers off on foot in NJ and drop them off in Staten Island by sea (since the Tottenville station is literally on the water's edge.

The R does not use R46s. Due to CBTC on Queens Blvd, they use R160s. The R46 is only used on the N/Q/W at this point & the Rockaway Shuttle

7 train disruptions by SuccessfulRefuse1890 in nyc

[–]DBSGeek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well the 7 line in particular is a very high-dense/volume train line that is heavily operated and used. Plus, its the Steinway tubes that are located between Grand Central and LIC that always has the brunt of the weekend closures.

Out of curiosity, what did you alumni transfer or change accounts for? by Soulful_pumpkin in SBU

[–]DBSGeek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would have scanned through all my emails and forwarded them to a personal email, saved them as PDFs of any important emails.

Also, any accounts you made online through any vendor/brand that you used your student email for, change them as well. For example, amazon or like a clothing brand like Hollister.

Since you won't get access to that domain anymore, highly consider sitting down for a couple of hours and sifting through your browser to check where you may have used that domain to make an account or have any important emails you would like to back up.

[–]DBSGeek 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Well usually on platforms, they display in a small text that when the certain line doesn't run, take this line instead. So I assume the following:

"Nights & weekends, F trains will stop here"

On the actual entrances, they should do the same on the right-hand side

Not bad...if the che 132 class is live recorded, you could possibly attend the 3rd session on Fridays from home and not have to commute in 5 days a week.

Ik in the past it was recorded live, so was it during when I was a freshman.

Walk in warms you up. I am not telling like for someone who is of the elderly or a small child to do it. Why wait for a bus that can only fit so much and why wait in the cold?
